Just to let you know that the latest Drivers are out. haven't had much time to play, but the graphics seem to have improved on my FX5600. or is it just my imagination. :sunny:
Do the new drivers fix the blobby smoke bug introduced in that last driver set?
Well just tried the new drivers...I went back to the 71.89 version.
I did not check if the smoke was fixed but I lost some performance with them.Went from 40FPS in harbor to 20-23.Also got very bad performance in other games I play like COD an d CODUO.
So unless an end all beat all driver is released I am sticking with the 71.89's as they seem to be the best performing and most stable on my system and with my card.

Me too, just tried the 77.77 WHQL and not only do the frame rates stink compared to older releases, IL-2/PF A/C models are missing large chunks of themselves. I run 66.93 drivers with my BFG 6800 Ultra, they seem to give the best performance. If the idiots at NVIDIA dont fix their problems quick I am finished with them.
I agree with CWorth. I have nvidia Ge Force 6800 and have tried new drivers as they came out and finally gave up and went back to 66.93 which came with my machine when I bought it. The newer drivers play havoc with some of the other games I play, so I'm convinced they will never get a driver that will work as well as the original. Am I wrong in my thinking?
The graphics on my rig seem a lot better and crisper. My frame rate has increased by a small percentage.
I recomend this site for tweaking your machine step by step for good performance game play http://www.stratcommandcenter.com/rtw/maximizepc.php
The final section is on tweaking your NVIDIA card. Mine is a 6600.
Rome Total War and SH3 run like dreams on my 3.3cpu - 512 ram machine.

Anyone tried the new driver on FX5700 card (like mine)?
Better graphics/framerates?

I was looking at that site and already have all of the tweaks that I could do done.
The only thing I have not done is disabling the useless services. The problem is I am on a network here at home with 4 other computers and I connect to the internet through said network.
So I would have no clue on what to leave enabled due to the network and what to turn off without causing problems.

I run a BFG 5950 Ultra 256MB AGP useing 66.93 drivers and SH3, FarCry, IL2, COD, ect. run real sweet.
About two months ago I thought I blew my 5950 U card and sent it back to BFG. They replaced it with a new one ( had the old card for a year & a half ) allthough that wasn't my problem.......Diff. story...anyway on a phone call to BFG a tech told me to run 66.93 for at that time they were the most stable drivers.
I believe him. :D
So if it aint broke don't fix it.

The new driver 77.77 fixed the problem of black screenshots when using antialiasing
(See in the FAQ:My screenshots are black when using Ctrl-F11 to take them
More info at: http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=30284 )
Now if they can fix the glare feature...when using antialiasing.
Try the nvidia 77.18 Driver, seems to work for me with no Problems.

Truth be told, with 512M of RAM and XP, you needn't disable many, if any services. If the services are really causing problems, upgrade your system.
Surely, you can disable some services, but the RAM savings may not be worth a broken installation of Windows.
In another thread someone mentioned FSAutoStart.

Besides some services like remote registry editing and quick user switching, I don't disable any services. You'll get more millage from nailing silly background tasks from applications that insist on installing junk that runs in your systray. Many, if not all, can probably be disabled permanently, if you have any, save perhaps antivirus software.
