And I got my SH3 DVD working again!
After dealing with my debacle of woe here:

I called Ubi and got an RMA number from them to send back my scratched disk. Depressed, I looked at the scored and scratched fine lines on the surface. What the hell. I'll give it one more go, I thought. I'm sending it back anyway, nothing to lose.
So I squeezed out a wad of the disk repair cream onto it, wadded up a handful of paper towels and I basically scrubbed that damned disk until my knuckles were raw.
And I popped it in the drive. And I ran the game. It worked! All I need to do now is to bring the disk into work and try a test install on one of the workstations. Just to verify the disk is fully readable.
But I'm back in business. Joachim Steiner in U-49 is back on his way. It felt great. I'm embarrassed at how addictive I find this game.
