View Full Version : manual TDC problem
I ran into a problem with the manual TDC recently, I set up an attack from about 1200 meters, manually set the range, tracked the target for quite a while, got several speed estimates by dividing distance travelled by time elapsed, did that about 3 times and all estimates were within one knot = or (-). speed was set manually. The angle on the torpedo track and target track was 90 Deg or very close. However, I missed with three torpedoes. I have no way of knowing if I shot too far ahead or behind Question: Can the external camera track a torpedo as in SHII?
I had another chance a while later, after reloading the tubes. Same basic setup as before, but this time right before firing I switch to the TDC map, and noticed that the green line indicating the torpedo track was WAY behind the target even though the scope was locked on the target. I manually reset it to shoot ahead of the target and got a hit. I have noticed on other occasions that the TDC tends to aim behind the target. What am I doing wrong? Thanks! Joe S

good step by step instructions on all the steps needed to manually use the TDC.
Sounds like from what you described you have missed one of the scope/tdc calibration steps since the green line shows the currently programmed gyro angle for the selected torp it it was way behind then somewhere you've missed a step.

Maybe you are mixing up port and starboard for the Angle-on-Bow dial?
That could result in the effect you saw.
(...because it would mean telling the TDC that the target ship is going the opposite direction!)
As for watching torpedoes, they show up on the TDC Attack Map, but I assume they wouldn't be there if auto-map updating is turned off in the realism settings.
I think the only other alternative (without Event Camera) is to use the F12 free camera, hold down the Shift key and try to chase 'em down!

Did you leave manual TDC entry on? If you do that the AoB won't update as you turn scope to new positions. If you check the link Tullaian gave that'll give you a good step by step process to follow. The tricky thing is to make sure that once you have the TDC set with AoB and speed manually, to set it back to auto so it will update based on new range estimates and bearing from the attack scope. Otherwise it will just fire at wherever you last set it while on the TDC page.
edit: Oh, and remember to hit 'q' to open your tubes manually before firing. The delay otherwise can cause you to miss.

i found that I was having problems because i wasnt reseting the target speed value on the TDc screen. Even though you may "x" the solution tablet out in the periscope screen, the previous speed value is still inputed.
I always zero bearing my scope my scope, "x" out the solution tablet, then I manual zero out all the TDC inputs in the TDc screen before firing at another ship.
The only time I dont do that is when Im firing at multiple targets in a convoy, in thi scase the speeds should be the same for all ships and all I have to do is re-calculate the range and bearings...that is until they take evasive manuvers, then you have to re-do them all.
