Can't transfer to La Spezia

In my campaign to do the whole thing with a type II, I told myself I wanted to head to the Med as soon as I could. Well, when I finished the last patrol I could. I clicked Apply For Transfer and the message box popped up saying "The Base Was Changed To: Null". Ok, I thought. I clicked ok and the box wouldn't disappear. I had to Alt + Tab out then do the Ctrl + Alt + Delete thing. When I re-entered the game, I tried again. The box still said Null. I only clicked a couple times this time and it disappeared. I got the approval for my request. When I clicked the arrow to back out of that screen everything went black and I got the send error report to Microsoft box. This has never happened before. Is this a know bug? Are there any solutions or can the bug work itself out? This is frustrating. :damn: :damn:

I don't know if a transfer to La Pezia causes a problem or not, never tried a transfer there, yet.

Before ending my last campaign (just 2 days ago), I was thinking it'd be fun at least to 'try' some patrols from La Spezia, or Toulon, but it was too late by then.

My last campaign is zipped-up. I will reload it again, to see if I can get a transfer to La Spezia. I think the port is available between September-41 to Auguest-/43.

Well your problems at La Spezia, I have too...

Here's what I tested:

(all tested from saves, 'In Game After Mission')

Sept. 17th, 1941: La Spezia/29th is not listed.
___

Nov. 7th, 1941: Click on '29th-flotilla', display says, 'The base was changed to (Null)'. Game is locked up. ALT-TAB to desktop, 'end-task'. (tested 2-times)

Dec. 16th, 1941: Click on '29th-flotilla', then click on 'Transfer', CTD. Game crashed. (tested 2 times)

Feb. 1942, through June 1942: 'Transfer denied' (changed flotilla)

Aug. 1st, 1942: Transfer works for 29th Flotilla, 'New Base is La Spezia'.

May 22, 1943: Transfer works, 'New Base is La Spezia'.


So you are right, it seems transferring to La Spezia doesn't work properly, when the 29th Flotilla is first displayed. I wonder if this is a nasty bug, or can be fixed modifying one of the config files?

Loading saves again (end a 1-day patrol), the earliest I could get to La Spezia was Jan. 17th, 1942.

I also tested transferring to Toulon, which is supposed to be available around Sept-1943. transferred to Toulon on Oct. 5th, 1943, no problem.

The 1.4b patch 'readme.txt' file says the 29th flotilla is available during dates below:

Oh well I'm guessing La Spezia becomes available early December/1942. Strange why it crashes the game though, especially since it shows the flotilla as available. It's the only time I've seen Sh3 crash during a flotilla-transfer, or lock-up with that (Null) message.

I'm glad you posted because I -am- going to the 29th during the next campaign (probably after Dec/42... :) )

Time to re-boot. The SH3 'end-task' used up a whole 'mess o ram'! :doh:

I had the same problem a couple of months ago. I just waited another patrol or two and the transfer worked fine. I guess it's just some kind of bug.

whats so good about transferring to La Spezia? I mean, I know there were the Torch landings and stuff but is there a lot of convoys, etc there? I've not really heard much about it on these forums.

Med is boring. I was there for 3 patrols, and nothing happened.

I've read from others that the Med was an ok tour but my experience there was nothing but endless sailing back and forth-boring. Got so bad I was looking for an attack by air just to have something to do.
This was back when the game first came . With RUB1.43/Ops mod installed
things may be a bit different. I'll have to give it another try sometime.

I was in the Med before, and it wasn't too bad. After a while I started to miss the Atlantic. :88) I want to go to the Med with my Type IID. I think it would do good there.

I've had the 'Base was changed to null' msg as well a few times, and had to alt-tab out of the game to quit. Not sure what causes it, but it usually works after the next patrol.

I decided to visit Malta/Valetta recently after sneaking through the Gibraltar straight. The promo SH3 screenshots of Malta is still fresh in my memory! On my way I alsmost fell asleep, though. No activity what so ever. As I approached Malta, the game crashed, and I was not able to reload any of the saves from that patrol afterwards... :damn: So I'm not going in there again unless I'm prepared for a crashed game... The weather was nice though! :ping:

Btw, has anyone been to Valetta yet? Does it look as good as the promo screenshots?

I've been in the Med. 1-time (way down to Egypt) and it was a boring patrol, but weather was constant rain and fog.

I wanted to load an older campaign patrol (patrol 7/8) then transfer to La Spezia, with just a 'decent' experienced crew. It seems too buggy to try it.

Btw, a 'new' (year 1941) career seems works fine at the 29th, and begins on Dec. 1st, 1941.

If it gets that boring, a trip to the west will spice things up! :)

For the life of me....I can't see that as a problem.... ;) ....I would count it as a blessing.... :yep:
