Does this happen after the protection check? Then delete both wmv videos from sh3\data\movies\intro.
And what are this specification? Maybe you should update you gfx card drivers?

Do you have the latest version of DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/directx/) installed?
If so, run DXDiag. Any errors reported?

Sounds like a conflict issue. What video card do you have?

There is no Geforce G200. Do you mean Ti200? That would be an old card, but it supports Pixelshader 1.1, so it should work. Please look again and tell us the exact specifications of that card and the rest of your system.

Looks good. What have you tried already? Do other games work? What was the error message of the installer?

Do I understand this correctly, the 3D error came directly after the DVD copy protection check finished? If that is the case delete both wmv videos from sh3\data\movies\intro. Also try all the other suggestions in this thread.

Please tell us exactly what you have tried already.
Another thing you can try is to set the screen resolution to 1024x786 and also be sure that the color depth is set to 32 bit.

He's got a 64 bit processor and I don't think it likes the intro movies.
I know it's been said before but go to "sh3\data\movies\intro" and delete those suckers. :yep:
Doggone 64 bit processors are way ahead of their time.

I don't recall any FX6200 but there is "GeForce 6200 256MB AGP" A 6000 series card. I have one ( allthough not in this computer ). and if that is the card you have believe me you will need another 500MB at least to even get SH3 off the ground............er down in the sea.
I've 1GB RAM and with my 6200 card I'd get about 18-22 FPS in the open sea ( about 10-12 in a storm ) but with this FX 5950 Ultra 256 MB AGP card I get 90-120 FPS........Just a little bit of diff. :arrgh!:

Well, I've got a 512mb RAM, K7 1000MHZ processor, Ati Radeon 9250 256mb graphics card...
and SHIII is fully playable for me. When going out of the port I have some problems with low framerates, but on open sea, near the coast, and even on enemy ports (have payed a visit to Scapa) if I don't get too near the buildings, the framerates are decent enough to let me fully enjoy the game.
It takes a $hit of time to load the game itself and start the missions. The first time I try to access to a station ,it takes some 10 seconds to load (then there's no load time), and on very big explosions low framerates happen...
but the game is really enjoyable for me anyway. I have a very low-end computer...and I really expected SHIII to perform MUCH, MUCH worse than what it does given the great graphics it has. Even with my old GF400 MX card it performed OK ...except for the little fact that I could not see the water (among a lot of other very weird graphic glitches...hehehehehe). The ATI card I had aksed for arrived two days later to the store but I couldn't wait to see the game, so I tried with the old one I had :D.
Bottom point: I'm sure that, if he knows and aknowledges he's got a low-end system, he'll be more than happy with what he gets (once he achieves putting the game in working order).

i was under the impression my machine was high end(at least not LOW end)
it seems to meet with requirements on the box of the game.

It´s far from being a high-end system. The CPU is great. 512MB RAM is not really enough (but SH3 runs ok), 1GB is standard now. The graphics card is lower middle-class. But the whole system is more than good enough for SH3.

This is being discussed in other locations on the web. SH3 appears to have a real problem with higher resolutions especially at faster refresh rates. I'm having the problem right now myself after changing monitors. Everything was fine with my CRT and not working now with a change to an LCD display.

Dozens of threads on this issue. It's their bug and it's similar to one EA had for Battlefield 1942.
In my case I just need to move below 75Hz refresh and it works.

Your computer is very fast.
The most common cause of the issue you are having are.
Really old video card drivers
the wrong version of directX installed
having locked your monitors refresh rate to something the game can't initialise.
Say you locked your refresh rate in Windows XP to 120hz at 800x600 for example.
SH3 will attempt to start in 1024x768 , and if your monitor can't support 120hz refresh rate at that resolution, the game will fail to start.
Update your drivers
Install the latest DirectX you can
try setting the monitor refresh rate to 60hz
let us know how it goes

On my old monitor, 1024x768 could be run at 130Hz. I had it locked at 100 and SH3 still would fail to load.
The odd thing was that this all started when I moved from ATI Catalyst 5.5 drivers to 5.6 drivers. I fixed that but then my monitor died and I used a temporary one that caused it to fail yet again. I addressed that and then the new LCD showed up yesterday and it failed a third time.
The only question I have at this point is, is 1024x768 the only resolution that SH3 runs at? I could have sworn I had it running at 1280x1024 and since that's the native resolution of the LCD, I'd like to get it back to that.

1024x786 is the only resolution SH3 comes with. Maybe you have used the Override DLL to run it at 1280x1024...
