Wow! 30 of those little suckers? That's really something, I haven't shot one down in 5 Patrols as yet, but would love to. -Nightowl :yep:

U-46 did get one once, but only because we were bounced from low cloud cover before we could dive, and had to slug it out
I would have awarded my flak gunner his Iron Cross for that, but his widow was too upset
On my last patrol I joined the Hipper class cruiser outside Brest in a fight with some aircraft. My flak gunner managed to shoot down one of them. The Hipper and it's escort didn't get any before the planes left and I continued on into port.

Can't check the exact figures because i'm at work, but of coarse, you get some renown for shooting down e/a, it's not much though.

what happens is... its march 1944. . .
I was cruising out from brest to my own mid ocean square, and was still some 150 Km from land, got spotted by aircrafts. . .
I went crash dive and 1024 TC but soon my battery went to some 30% and i HAD TO surface, so i took my chances. . .
So there was my boat cruising at surface ahead flank having my crew shooting them down, wave after wave of incoming aircraft
All i was doing was hitting rudders hard to port/starb trying to avoid their bombs, and checking the battery level. . .
After some 15 planes shot down, with minimal damage to sub and no casualties, i decided to keep that going on till ammo was gone.
