Tried forcing my way throught the SOG into the mediteranean the other night. ... on the surface.... during the day... hehehe i

it wasn't pretty.. but i found that if you get hit by enemy deck guns while on the bridge it just like getting stunned by a flash bang in America's Army. My vision goes blurry, my ears ring loudly etc.. I didn't expect to find FPS effects in a subsim

:)

they thought of everything

Lesson: next time, wait for night to fall and sneak through submerged heheh

oh, what is the command to take screenshots? and where is the picture saved?

Ctrl-F11 is the screenshot key, they are saved to your Silent Hunter 3 directory as .bmp files.

Last career I got halfway into the med (late 40). Thinking this is easy what is everyone whinging about. Suddenly "ping ping", whomp whomp. Least I am not dead I thought. Looked at damage abit of flooding and all my scopes are destroyed . SO I escaped the dds and headed for the atlantic. Out in the atlantic I surfaced, but must not have been far enough away, (patience must learn patience) when the scream of airplane rang out so crashed but too late.......

Lesson learnt straight is a hard place :yep:

"Get close, submerge and just flow with the current." Didn`t quite work for U-96, didn`t it. :)

I have not got around to going to Gibralter yet. Lurked just off the coast of Spain was as close as I got but the temptation to take a chance to try it is getting greater.

When I do, here is my plan. I will sit submerged 20k off of it and wait for a convoy. Snugly under the biggest ship in the convoy and go through with the convoy. Likewise the return trip, piggy-back a ride with an out going ship.

Do you guys think this will work?

Yeah, but the currents are very strong there, it would work for them, if they wouldnt be spotted. The speed of the current is about 12knots there, thats why boats werent able to get out of the med after they got in.

Cause the kaleun decided at the last minute to go through on the surface!

The thing that irritates me about Gibraltar is the crappy weather. Although, I have to say that it makes it more challenging and fun. I've learned some lessons in Scapa Flow and now I'm reluctant to head for the Gibraltar port even though it's near my patrol area. I just usually stay near the entrance and hunt whatever ships show up.

And he didn't realise that the enemy had started using radar.

"How did he see us? Seems impossible!" Or something similar...

Are currents actually modeled in SH3?

No idea. Just had to say that thing on my post, cuz it fits in the topic. :)

Like the idea of riding in underneath a big merchant, but aren't we supposed to be sinking them!

Mind you that is one crazy taxi cab rank

Uboat: Going back to La Rochelle, Mate?
Tanker: Na, Liverpool, mate, can't do south of the Channel
Uboat: Go on, here's a case of chianti
Tanker: Alright then but don't you be torpedoing me off Portugal
Uboat: No way mate (...open bow caps 1 - 4...)
Tanker: So how do you think the Russians will get on this year?
Uboat: No chance. Likely to be snowed off anyway
Tanker: I had that Otto Kretschmer under my keel the other day......
