To those whom it may help....

Living in NZ, with no DVD drive, I was forced to circumvent the (stupid) restriction which means you can only D/L the D2D version of the game if you live in Mexico, Canada or the US.

It was painfully simple..and in fact may have even been simpler (I don't know if I actually did have to use a US proxy):

1. Download and run MMIPsetup.exe (from www.maskmyip.com)
2. Set it to use a US proxy server list ( www.atomintersoft.com/products/alive-proxy/proxy-list/us/ ),
3. Open web browser
4. Go to www.direct2drive.com and set your account location to US
5. Pay, download, and enjoy!

As an added bonus, it was a helluva lot cheaper than buying the boxed version in NZ (saved about 33%)

SoS

Actually, i have a question:

when you have bought and donwloaded the games, can you play offline ?

When you have bought, is it forever ....

Actually, i am using a french company call www.mataboli.fr to "rent" about 160 games with a monthly rent ....

Well, to be honest its still downloading as I type this...so Ill let you all know.

I have read varying reports...apparently you can (play online) and it is (yours forever, including the download link). Although I have also read that some peeps have had trouble with reinstalling etc....although nothing that THOROUGH uninstalling wont solve, or requesting new activation codes from D2D (hopefully it wont come to this!). Also, unfortunately, nothing that others havent also experienced with the disc version (thanks to Starcock).

Even more hopefully, the D2D version MAY not have Starbollocks on it, which would be REALLY nice.

Will keep you posted....

Hello, that the situation with the d2d stuff.

I got more question for ya:

- did you succed downlading a nd playing from nz (new zealand ?)
- how did you pay ( us credit card or other country credit card)
- how is the overall quality ?

OK - got the thing downloaded and installed.

However, thanks to Startoss, activation was a further pain in the a$$.

I had to manually activate through the starforce website, but again had to anonymise my IP through a US proxy, else the "you cannot activate this product because you're not from an approved country blah, blah...." message came up.

So - all running at patched to 1.4 now - although the "You have 1 Activation left" message makes me a little dubious about messing with my installation now!

Why oh why are there such tower of Babel policies???!!!!!

EDIT: I'm just downloading Real U-Boat 1.43/Ops Mod - what are the uninstall options for this? JGSME? Basically, I don't want to screw up my installation, when I only have a limited number (without grovelling to Ubi or Starforce's customer support)

Before you mod it copy the main SH3 dir to some safe place. If something messes it up delete the SH3 folder by hand and restore the backup. Then you won´t need to activate it again.
