It's 1941, I stumbled across a convoy with only 1 Destroyer which I managed to take out. Then I surfaced and carefully started using the deck gun to take out Allied ships.

A C3 started firing on me, so I fired on its deck gun, then subsequently sunk the C3, and the map showed the C3 was a nuetral!

I figured that ut was not necessary to identify the ship since it was shooting at me!

Anyone else have a nuetral fire on them?

This gets back to the old issue of Neutrals that shouldn't be Neutrals in the first place. If they are in convoy with Allied ships, they are legal targets, and considered Enemy. Of course, the game doesn't model that, so you just have to sink them and 'pretend' you didn't lose renown for it. (Or you could use the other method, where you edit your cfg file to make Neutrals not cost you negative renown, I haven't yet, but probably will, and I will only shoot Neutrals that are, by definition, enemy, ie ships that fire on you, or ships that are in enemy waters or enemy convoys).

If they shoot at me, I take em out.

I edited the cfg to get 0 points for neutrals- this way, if I sink one I don't get any credit (plus I've lost the fish, or gun rounds), but don't lose any either.

The prize rules specifically said that ships in convoy, ships darkened at night and zigzagging, and ships definitely seen to be carrying contraband could be sunk. After a certain date, any ships in the waters around Britain could be sunk. The game fails to model this accurately, leading to some frustrating encounters with "neutral" American C2's carrying Hurricanes, escorted by RN DDs.

And also an armed ship was trated as hostile. BTW I received yesterday a radio contact about neutral convoy :o just south of Ireland in may 1941.

Yup, I'd guess that's because any ship in those waters is supposed to be an enemy.

Shadow9216: I like that idea, I think that's how I'll mod mine, thanks. :)

No prob Duncan- but watch out for those Harkonnen DDs :rotfl:

I encountered a "Large Enemy Convoy"...judicious targetting reduced it to a "Small Neutral Convoy".

Hehehe....

I've managed that same trick a LOT. I'm curious, do you bother shooting the little merchants in a convoy? I usually only take out the big ships, unless I'm in a hurry to spend my fish and get back to base.

I play according to the rules sent to the skippers (for the most part, I blow off Doenitz's order to stay surfaced and fight it out with airplanes), which was to sink ships whenever encountered. If I have a convoy, I stay on until out of torps. I usually try for the larger ships first, then move to the smaller ones. Use the gun to finish off stragglers. I also broadcast signals during and immediately following the attack (although I know there is no one to hear them  ).
