Type IX Upgrade In 1st Flotilla?

First off, let me say that I've been visiting this site and reading this forum for awhile, but this is my first post. You folks have a great community going here!

I have a question I know someone will have an answer for....I started a campaign in the 1st Flotilla in Sept, 1939. I just finished my 19th patrol on 12/10/41, and have sunk 740,000+ tons of shipping and my renown is 24400 (73%) realism.....all that being said, I STILL haven't been given the option to upgrade my type VII to a type IX! And I was able to upgrade my type II to a VII after patrol #2! Is this just a 1st Flotilla thing?

I saw someone's post last week about why the type IX costs 9000 renown, and I was thinking "Heck, I cab get TWO of the darn things!

1st Flotilla only has Type II and VII boats. Try 2nd Flotilla if you want a Type IX.

Thats the 2nd flortila, thats where i picked up my IXB, i then transfered to the 7th after a couple patrols. I hate how lorients exit route is.

Yeah, best bet is to transfer to 2.Flotille, get your Type IX and trick it out, and after a couple of patrols transfer wherever you like and your boat will go with you.

Yep, there is also a base in the med. that has IXs, but its risky cause u have to sneak past the STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR to get to your patrol grid.

You dont have to sneak through the Gibraltar, if you want to go to the 29th flottila (in med, La Spezia and later Toulon), you just click onto the transfer button, and next thing you know is that you are in the med.

after u get ur IX, go back to the 1st flotilla. Lorient is a nightmare for navigation and time efficancy. (i get two hours a week and it takes me like 2 or 3 weeks [in real time] to complete one patrol)

There's 2 Flotillas at Lorient.

Thanks for the tip and all the advice. Glad I'm in port after patrol #19. I can request the transfer to the 2nd Flotilla.

Fox: See you are from Chicago. I was just there in June and took in the U-505 at the Museum of Science and Industry. What an AWESOME exhibit! It's a shame you can't get up on deck! I was dying to! I'll have to see if I can get a pic from the trip in as my signature.....
