Just a little question...............Why don't the elco fire torps? Considering the name I thought they would.

You are right!
But they don`t do it.
It´s not a bug, it`s a feature ;)

I've wondered about the same thing ever since I came across them. Are they loaded with torps at all?

:rotfl: Just be glad they don't ... especially since they aren't even spotted till you are taking damage from one of them .... yes... I have seen a torpedo on each side of those boats ...
if you are interested in having a duel with one .... have your deck gunner in place and you mount the flak gun ,turn your boat hard over and at flank speed ... start praying you sink it before they sink you

They're not equipped to fire torpedoes at subs, neither are the DDs. I can't remember if they fire them against other ships though. I think someone created a single mission where they did just that, but I personally can't attest to it.

Nope, sorry there arn't any AI torpedos programed in the game. I wish there was. It would make torp boats, ships, and aircraft that can carry one a very interesting addition to the game. As well as spruce up Rubini's harbor traffic with AI subs, scripted wolfpack attack encounters anyone?
I would expect if SHIV will cover the pacific game then torpedo AI should be present in that game. Pear Harbor wouldn't be quite the same without them! I wish there was in SHIII.
As it stands the visual presence of one on a ship or boat is only cosmetic.

I always duel with them with my deck gun!! I shall try the AA duel when I get reasonable AA guns.......at the moment I am back in May 1940. This shall be the last time I will try to complete the whole war without dying. :yep: Or maybe the gods will be kind and grant me it this time :rotfl:

That's the same rational my ex-girlfriend used to use :hulk:  :hulk: :hulk: like she could wear white.

i really really hate those boats. they buzz around u like flies, and they usually get too close so the deck gun wont hit them. I remember in Aces of the deep, some planes would drop homing torps and sometimes pattern running torps. I ran into one on purpose to see how much damage i would get. I sank.. end of story hehe

Elco's are not an issue - provided you spot them. Once you do - the deck gun is the easiest to take em out with - one - maybe two shots are all you need. dont use zoom if they get close - just aim and fire. They use nothing but small arms fire so your not in danger of major damage - just nickel and dimed to death (along with crew casualties). Just use your main deck gun and get a hit - your fine. It does help to be going flank and turning IF you can still get a good bead on the elco.
They only hurt in groups.... Trawlers on the other hand tend to be my pain in the arse.
Good Hunting.

I stay steer clear from Elco's. They don't pack a punch, true, but I definitely don't want to lose anyone because of them. Even if you do take one out, more will spawn, they will be rather annoyed what you did to their mates and they always report your location to their big brothers= destroyers and such. Since they operate at coastal waters, waters there tend to be on the shallow side. So, I just avoid them like plague. But yes, it sure is nice to bag one if it goes to that :) My way of dealing with them? 37mm, accept no substitutes.
