Was Klaus the actual chief engineer in the real sub, or the actor who played the part in the movie?

One of the best actors in the film. A nice tribute.

Outside of Das Boot I'm unfamiliar with his work, but in that he was great.

Well, he was less than a year old, in that time, in which Das Boot is put.
Ein schöner Tribut... danken Ihnen ... I'm sure we all appreciate the excellent work of Klaus Wenneman ... he will be missed.

He mainly did german TV-series or theater, and was great there too.

As Joea, I wasn't into the subs world at that time, but when I saw this film, I realised the great quality of its actors. He was for sure, one of the best guys of the film.

Believe it or not Das Boot was the very first thing Klaus Wennemann ever appeared in. He looked absolutely exhausted (for real) by the end of the movie; I'm sure the stress didn't help in his later years!

Interesting ... his very first role, and he was over 40 years old at the time! A superb debut at any age.

He had his most successful role here in Germany as a leading actor in the detective tv-series series "Der Fahnder" (The Investigator).

It says in the movie 7/1/2000 was his death or 1/7/2000, at any rate did he pass away in 2000 or in 2005??

This is a very good clip. I had DL'ed it back in summer and just found it again, and thought I should credit the creator. Would you mind telling us (if you know), what the music in the clip is? I find it really touching.
Thanks.

Thanks. Nice.
I was already aware that he died back in 2000. I looked him up in IMDB after we got the movie.
IMO, he played the part brilliantly. Most convincing. :yep:
