The download link isn't working :(
I just came across this and it sounded like great fun.
If it's been cancelled maybe you would revise it, and issue a new challenge?

That does seem like an "incredible" amount of tonnage.

Wasn't there a thread about Gibs cheating in multiplayer, using mods unfairly, reload times etc. http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=41042

Thats sounds like a great idea, also to stop anyone cheating maybe they have to take a screen shot of the realism settings.
We have two types of players the 100% realism and those that want WO (weapon officer) help so a 86% realism i think. Then its just WO players versus each other for high tonnage & the same for the full realism players.

What will the prize be?

Be a moderator for a day? :arrgh!:

Its not hard to get high tonnage on that map, contary to the makers belief. Never shoot at anything smaller than a C3/T3 with your torps and use your DG on nothing smaller than a coastal, every thing else use the flack, you will rake in the tonnage. As for the escorts, sink only those that you must to gain the max tonnage.

As to the "Challange" its not much of a 1, the end result I gave was genuine and because I had done so quickly and with a good tonnage I believe it was pulled because the guy thought it was impossable (read got his nose outa joint). Its anything but. Nowdays I play this map with a type XXI and go on a killing spree.

I've downloaded the file and extracted it to the SH3\data\SingleMissions\English\Florida 1944\ directory. I don't have any mission summary and I can't start the mission. I've also tried creating it in the SH3\data\SingleMissions\German\Florida 1944\ directory without any luck.

I even tried placing a media.cfg file into the directory. All of the other single mission directories have this media.cfg file.

Any thoughts???

the file must be place in the english folder not the german one ...

i think ... at least thats how it worked for me

about the mission ... depending on what you route you take i headed south making half a circle and i only was depth charged
once on the first attack . lost my attack periscope and the other was damaged it didnt mark targets until i managed to surface and repair it. after the first attack i only saw a another war ship ... and only planes bother me from time to time. i even wasnt credited for 2 kills . using hidrophone i can listen all the war ships above my position on the map ... and even when planes spot me they dont seem to be interested .

Figured it out. It creates a florida44 extracted directory. The directory you have to create is Florida 44 instead of florida44. It has to have a space in between Florida and 44. I've added the file directly to my own server to for everyone to download. You can't link to it you have to go to the downloads page and find it under the SHIII Custom Missions page.

Mods please email me if this is a problem for the site. I'm just trying to help out here.

Jim,

Thanks for creating a great mission. It took me three times to get in the zone and stay focused long enough to finish.

Take a look at some of these screenshots. I bagged my first T3 tanker using only one fish! 11.7 depth setting for mags on this monster!

What did you and Neal decide on for final qualifications?

I have all of the kill screenshots and final tonnage shot here.

Thanks to Neal as well!

First kill shot due north of starting position.

now i realize why this mission is so hard; even in no TC i can hardly get a 5 fps! now that is a challenge!

I find I can fix this by alt-tabbing out of the game and then back in. You have to do it for each compartment though. If you're on deck and it's running slow, alt-tab and go back in and your FPS will increase a bit. When you dive and go to the helm alt-tab again. Same for periscope. Works wonders for me.

Mission Completed Sir,

This was indeed a challenging and thrilling patrol, after starting out close to the keys we quickly came upon some destoyer escorts on patrol. I ordered the crew to rig for silent running and we started waiting.

Several destroyers passed by, a few coming within 500Meters of us and still we sat silently as they paraded about like a bunch of blind cows. Shortly after a passenger liner came across our path.

I shouted "this is it" and the crew sprang to life, with our engines not daring to be set above 1/3 speed we slowly crept and creeked towards the liner, The torpedo officer was ordered to set the depth for tubes 1 and 2 to 1 meter below the hull of the beast and when it was within 500 meters we let our 2 fish fly.

Within moments there was the enormous explosion as not 1 but both of our fish found their targets. The steel beast rose up from the surface and let out a mighty roar as she split into 2 and sank towards her watery grave.

Immediately after firing our torps we turned away from all the traffic and made our depth for 100 meters. The sonarman begin calling out contacts as all the warships in the area converged on the spot the liner was sunk but we had already slipped away.

Shortly after we returned to periscope depth to find ourselves right in the middle of a line of T3 tankers and Cargo vessels. The escorts either out in front of the line as lookouts or having moved to the area of the sunken liner.

One by one we set our torps depth for 1 meter below the targets vessel hull and one by one we fired off torpedo after torpedo taking out 7 merchant/cargo vessels, before the allies could even react it was over.

It was right about this time that a squadron was spotted flying towards us. I gave the order to dive but the planes had spotted us and the destroyers now turned their wrath on us.

Depth charge after depth charge was dropped but we managed to make our escape as they set the depth for the charges too shallow and most of the charges exploded harmlessly above us.

Hours pass, the silence only interupted by the muffled sounds of depth charges exploding in the distance and the call of our sonarman announcing the contacts moving away. After a while we surfaced to replenish our batteries and oxygen and having spotted a massive armada now searching the area we took our remaining fish and sailed for home. The final tally being 8 vessels and 54,000+ tonnes of shipping sunk.

There is a readout on just how the mission played out in one of the files. This readout will need to be included
in your final.

Is the read out "name_of_file.clg" located in the My Documents/SH3/data/cfg/SingleMissions?

I looked in that folder and it was empty.

I sure wish one of them would come back to this thread and explain whats required rather than leaving a vauge "theres a readout on the mission in one of the files" explanation.
