Naval games with freedom

Hello dear readers! I shoot torpedo boats from deck gun and it is amazing in silent hunter III but it doesn't happen often, I'm rather stuck with torpedo shooting which is boring that's why I'm looking for games like SHIII where I don't particularly play as submarine but I can shoot torpedo or other small boats and sink them with deck gun. I know war thunder have what I want but please don't recommend such multiplayer games like world of warships or war thunder. I specifically want single player games where I can shoot and sink boats(maybe play with torpedo boat), where I have direct control of naval vehicle but I don't want to shoot torpedoes. I just want to shoot from deck gun. Also please don't suggest me games where I play exact same missions and after I finish I have to replay missions to have fun again, let it be more like SHIII where I can start career mode or have freedom of engaging targets and free roam.

So I checked it out, it's great and the game that I was looking for but it's lagging and I don't know why. I checked requirements and my laptop can handle it. My specs are: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4500u, GPU: Radeon Graphics(integrated), 8gb ram.

Here is FPS. It is just 21 and goes even down sometimes. What should I do?

I'm surprised no one mentioned this. There is an add on module for Silent Hunter 3 called GWX 3.0 There is another called Living Silent Hunter. I think the add on Modules are larger than the original Silent Hunter 3 program.

Either of these add-ons will add new life to your gaming experience. People here in Subsim have said Silent Hunter 3 is like a new Simulation / game. I would agree. Both programs can be downloaded here in Subsim.

Further, There is Silent hunter 4. There is also an add-on module for SH4 called Fotrs or Fall of thee rising sun.

All of these add-ons are the result of the hard work of a number of our Subsim members that are coders and their combined efforts have contributed much. Their collective works have created immersive game play.

Look through the Silent Hunter 3 files for the add-ons. Look through Silent Hunter 4 for FOTRS. We can help you install the game programs. Let us know if you need assistance with your installs or have questions. You might also want to look at Silent Hunter 5. As Platapus said, there are many files here that might interest you. Perhaps Destroyer Command might interest you as well. I think you will enjoy your time with all of that.

Thank you a lot Commander Wallace. I do enjoy this new community that I joined and I have GWX installed on my Silent Hunter III but unfortunately there are no pt or other small armed boats that you can play with but still the mod itself is great! Next up is Silent Hunter IV to try. The other day I saw mod for SH IV that adds playable pt boat, I'm so excited to try that. There is also Surface mod for SHIII which I think also allows you to play with pt boat but unsure. Anyway, thank you for positivity of you and this community!

I dont attack torpedo boats (small target, getting too much damage from their automatic weapons), but I am shelling unarmed merchants a lot. Torpedo shooting is not boring for me, because I am always curious if torpedo hit was well aimed and flooding will make the rest of work.

I know some people love shooting torpedoes but I'm more real-time shooter so I prefer small armed boats but I can't any game matching this.

I love subsims but I have always wanted a proper PT boat simulation but the industry has not thus far delivered one. They are always gamey arcade type monstrosities, lack historical accuracy, immersion etc. There is a PT-109 mod for SH 4 that makes the Elco torpedo boat playable and with some work, could be an above average PT sim.

A great campaign tailored for PT boats could be made from SH 4 in all theaters with all the great additional ships, small craft, aircraft etc I did some work on it few years back, writing decent traffic in the the Phillipine in 1941/42 and 44/45, as well as Solomons, New Guinea, training stateside in Rhode Island and Florida Keys. Submarine projects and life took me away from it and did not see much interest. I'll look and see if still have the files in archive.


We elements needed for a decent playable Elco boat. A base model made playable, we have the weapons needed...40mm guns, .50 mg, 20 mm guns, torpedoes from SH 4 can be modified to those used by PT boats (I did it, uploaded to subsim). SJ radar can be modified to be the radar used by PT boats. We have crew members who could be placed on the deck, manning guns as are on subs. We have talented people on community who could give us a decent interior of a PT Boat for immersion.

In testing intense PT boat gun actions in Solomons in 1943 and New Guinea in 1944. Only thing is need something resembling an interior for PT Boats, having a sub interior kind of an immersion killer. There has been so much added by community in terms of weapons, ships, etc since.


I'd be willing to resurrect the project in near future if there is interest and had people who skills/knowledge willing to help. Really has potential to be something

I absolutely agree! PT boats have so much potential but there is still no real pt boat sim for us to play. As you said, it would be much easier to make pt boat for Silent Hunter series but I heard and saw only one of them. I hope in nearest future someone will make mod with historical accurance for PT boat gameplay(theatre as mentioned above). Send me links of mods for SH or games with PT boat available to play if you have any.

SH4 has a problem that needs a good fix. In SH4 Torpedos do not eject as in SH3. All torpedos kind of fall straight down until in the water.
In SH3 they will eject thus the S-Boot Mod.
You could try the Uber-Boot Mod for SH3 which gives you a killer Submarine that allows some fun Surface shooting.

Thank you for suggestion but I checked that game a while ago. Unfortunately it has scripted missions only with no freedom, which does not match my requirements
