I'm looking for any war games similar to SH1, nothing too hardcore like 668 hunter killer. Any war genre, air land or sea. DOS or low graphic windows. Looking for recommendations. Thanks in advance.

“Command Aces of the Deep “. A very good classic with plenty of info here at Subsim.

Crash Dive 2 is such a game. It has plenty of side missions and let you also attack land targets with your sub gun (totally non-historical, but gameplaywise not an easy affair on high difficulty settings.)
The game ranges from arcade-style on easy settings up to a good sub simulator at the highest difficulty. And it's even moddable in-game.
