View Full Version : TMO Pre war - Photograph Cape Inubosaki Honshu problem

So i've been working on this mission for hours now and I'm just about give up.

It's pre war. I think I set out around October of 1941 and I am supposed to photograph Cape Inubosaki Honshu and then patrol around Tokyo bay. I get the Cape. I see the lighthouse and even have some random spot next to it that I can lock on to and photograph (even though there isn't ship there). The mission does not ever mark complete though. I've gone up and down the coast and the only thing I can find to photograph is that spot by the lighthouse. It's a bit of a game killer for me since everytime I try to reload in the office to hopefully get a different mission, it will only give me that one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you would Darkcrow, run JSGME in your TMO game folder, then click on the blue "Tasks..." link in the middle of the app window, and choose "Export activated mods list to..." at the bottom of that menu. Choose "Clipboard" to paste the text immediately into the reply text window here, or "Text file" to copy and paste later. That will show your activated mods list, and the path to your game, which help in diagnosing any issues. The game really should be rotating through the assignments, but has been known to do exactly what you have there. It is "fixable", but requires some text edits in the Save folder. But, do you happen to know the version of SH4 that you are running? You can see that on the game menu in the lower right-hand corner of the display, or you can click on the SH4.exe file in the game folder, right-click on it, choose the "Properties" menu item, and then the "Details" tab. About the middle of that little window is a "Product version" line, that should read "1,5,0,0". Make sure that's what you have.

Now, if this is your first mission of a career, and as a way to make certain the mod is properly activated, you could just delete the Save folder data, and the game will rebuild that folder structure the next time you start it, and you might end up with a different first mission. By default, the Save folder is found in "C:\Users \UserName \Documents \SH4", which the UserName would be what you log-in with, Documents might be "My Documents", and it might have an added "\OneDrive" folder in that path. If you changed the Save folder with MultiSH4.exe, then of course the "SH4" folder would be whatever you named it. This is NOT the game folder, but the Save folder. Inside the folder should be a "data" folder (small "d", whereas the game folder is a capital "D"), and beneath that folder, a "cfg" folder (again, a lower-case letter "c"). Under that is all the data the game runs off of. You can delete either just the cfg folder, data, or the root Save folder. That will re-set you back to the default for everything, including the screen resolution and other game settings, so you'll have to re-set all of those, but it will clear that "stuck" mission assignment. :salute:

So i've been poking around this mission all day trying to figure it out the best I can. I've done a clean install and tidied up the mod list. I still have the same issue.

I tried the mission creator and I am pretty sure it is the "Pre-war PH Patrol 02". If it is, i'm not sure what the issue is.

Any help would be appreciated.

question: you say that the mission does not ever mark complete. do you mean that the photo objective does not show that it is completed on your captain's log clipboard?

p.s. i am testing the mission right now.

the photo objective seems to come off without a hitch.
once you close within sight of the photo target and take a photo using one of periscopes, you should see the objective show completed, you should see a checkmark icon in your HUD and, on the nav map, the objective icon should gray-out and have a red checkmark in the center.

Yes, the objective never marks itself complete. I get within range of the lighthouse and see the marker. I use the periscope, lock on, and on the periscope tab click the photo icon. Nothing happens. :(

more than likely, something is corrupted in the mission file and THAT is causing you to not receive the proper credit for taking the photo.

no idea how that happened but it is a definite possibility.

two things for you to check if you feel intrepidacious:
1. browse to the data\sea folder and look for a subfolder named Target. in the Target folder, look for Target.cfg. open that with a text editor and look for a line with something that says Renown. write down that value. close the file and do not save it.
2. open the mission in the Mission Editor (ME). click on the menu item Mission and then Objectives. choose the first objective. write down the values in the two photo value fields. exit the editor.

post the three numbers here.

20 on all three.

Maybe it's a conflicting mod? I say that because I started the prewar campaign again and now am getting ctd randomly when fighting a convoy. Maybe it's all connected?

Or maybe I am taking a picture wrong? Idk...it's been a few years since I played. I sure would feel stupid if I am doing it wrong, lol.

Thanks for the help btw. :salute:

the convoy issue is separate, so let's leave that for later.:ping:

go back and edit the Target.cfg file and change the Renown= value to 1000. Save that.
start the mission from the beginning and see what happens.

That worked! Thank you so much :Kaleun_Cheers:
Do I need to change the cfg file back to 20 after I finish the mission?

Any chance you could help me with the ctd issue now? lol :hmmm::doh:

glad to hear that it worked out. i would just leave that renown value at 1000 as there will be other photo missions where that fix will allow you to complete the mission.

the CTD....need more info on the conditions and actions you are taking at the time of the ctd because these things are difficult to troubleshoot.

no promises...as i do not have source code at my disposal. :03:

Thanks for helping.
It seems to happen when reloading a save with a lot going on around me (like being in the middle of a convoy).

I think that is the problem right there.
