When recharging batteries in Type XXi the level is set to stop at just about full, meaning they are always recharging and the diesels must be set to Standard manually. I consider this a safety feature in this boat to make sure the batteries are always recharging and only one diesel engine is running whenever the snorkel is being used, which would save wear on the starboard engine since the speed cannot exceed 5-6 knots with the snorkel anyway. It's not a bug- it's a feature!
