I recently ordered the big revell IXC/40 and it has that odd cut away outer hull on the bow the Germans did late in the war. Does anyone know the name for that? I could also post pictures once I get the kit.

It was also found on XID's. https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=148005 http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/arnd278/9c40-03.jpg U-190 after capture in Bull Bay Newfoundland: https://www.uboatarchive.net/U-190A/U-190-3A.jpg https://assets-global.website-files.com/60d3c6d0e106af90561564f7/60fee47d6cc19791dce34578_U190-0007.jpeg & U-889 https://assets-global.website-files.com/60d3c6d0e106af90561564f7/60fee4877b653e07cb02d928_U190-0020.jpeg https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=220202 The purpose of the cutaway deck shape was to make the U-Boat submerge faster by about ten to fifteen seconds. Which, with the skies full of aircraft made a critical difference. Presumably by using the weight of the water in the cutaway area to pivot the bows at a steeper angle.:Kaleun_Salute::arrgh!: As always, kudos to Torplex who also created my sig's illustration!:yeah: Bear in mind: All that expensive Deutschmarked engineering to gain the amount of time it takes me to blink 10 times??!:timeout::nope::dead:
