FLORIDA MAN STOPS PAYING FOR RENTAL CAR, USES IT TO GIVE UBER RIDES
Florida Man October 26
https://floridaman.com/florida-man-stops-paying-for-rental-car-uses-to-give-uber-rides/
[POLK COUNTY] Usually people return a rental car when they stop paying for it. But not Florida Man. No, he keeps it. Not only does he keep it, but he uses it give Uber rides and make a little cash on the side.
According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, this Florida Man had an ingenious way of keeping the rental company from stopping his engine from starting…but we’ll get to that a little later.
27-year old Elijah Mills was pulled over in Polk County while giving a ride to a couple from the United Kingdom. They were in Florida to get married. Now they’ll have a great Florida Man story to tell their friends and family back home. Little did they know that the Uber car giving them a ride was actually a stolen car.
Mills rented a Ford Equinox in Orange County, but stopped making payments on the car three weeks earlier. The Florida Man told deputies that the rental car company called him constantly, but he refused to answer. The company had no choice but to report the car as stolen.
Usually the rental company is able to keep the cars ignition from restarting, but that didn’t work. Why Not? Well, Mills told police how he was able circumvent their device by keeping the car running. That’s right…he kept it running for three weeks straight. With gas prices so high today, no wonder he had to use it as an Uber.
And who would have guessed that Florida Man didn’t even have a valid license? Mills was charged with Grand Theft Motor Vehicle and Driving While License Suspended or Revoked.

An old man just shot 2 climate activists who were blocking a highway in Panama
A 77-year-old man shot dead two environmental protesters on Wednesday in an apparent outburst of rage over a roadblock in Panama.
The gunman was named in local media as Kenneth Franklin Darlington Salas. If he is convicted, Mr Salas could be sentenced to house arrest rather than being sent to jail because of his age.
The protesters, who were opposed to a controversial mining contract, had blocked the Pan-American Highway in Chame, 51 miles from the capital Panama City.
Footage posted on social media showed the motorist walking from his car, demanding the protesters get out of the road.
Initially, Mr Salas removed tyres which were obstructing the road. The protesters, according to witnesses, shouted at the man: “Are you going to kill someone?”
The gunman replied: “You want to be the first?”
He opened fire, first shooting a protester holding a flag and then a second man who went to confront him, before walking off and removing tree trunks that had been blocking the road. He was then arrested.
Local media identified the victims as Abdiel Diaz, a teacher and union activist, and Ivan Mendoza.
The deaths are the first fatalities in protests that broke out on October 20 against a contract that allows Canada-based First Quantum Minerals to operate Central America’s biggest open pit copper mine for at least another 20 years.

There's a simple solution to this fad that's pervaded the education system and that's to expel anyone who doesn't identify as a human.
Gillian Keegan the Secretary of State for Education should make this known in the House of Commons too, any Head Teacher who refuses to implement these new guidelines must be fired immediately, that should be the end of the furries me thinks......maybe.
Lets see how the parents cope with the fines for their children's non attendance at school, me thinks the onus should have always been on the parents to sort the little brats out and not the education system, I reckon some parents who don't conform to this Political correctness ideology will be warning their kids about actions and its consequences.

'Sand is like gold.' The pricey race to restore Florida beaches before the next hurricane
by Nicolas Rivero and Alex Harris
https://phys.org/news/2022-12-sand-gold-pricey-florida-beaches.html
Florida's sandy beaches aren't just beautiful and one of the biggest money-makers in the state's tourism-based economy. They're also the first line of defense against storm surge flooding during hurricanes.
Now, after hits on both coasts during the 2022 hurricane season that ended Wednesday, those beaches are in desperate need of repair. Even before hurricane season began on June 1, 426 of Florida's 825 miles of sandy beaches were listed as "critically eroded" in a June report from the state's Department of Environmental Protection.
Then, hurricanes Ian and Nicole delivered a one-two punch of beach-shredding wind and waves. The damage to beaches was severe, particularly along the the northeast Florida coast.
"Our dune system is a coastal protection system," said Jonathan Lord, the emergency management director for Flagler County in northeast Florida. "Because the dunes were so damaged from Ian, it didn't take much for Nicole to further damage them and cause flooding in many neighborhoods."
For decades, Florida has been restoring its beaches by dredging or trucking in more sand. But the practice is becoming more challenging—and expensive, thanks to the rising cost of beach-quality sand. Offshore sand deposits, especially on Florida's southeast coast, are dwindling after decades of repeated beach restoration projects. As local governments squabble over the right to use the remaining sand, its price is rising.
"Sand is like gold," said Michelle Hamor, the planning chief for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' office in Norfolk, Virginia, which is leading the effort to develop a $6 billion plan to protect Miami-Dade County from storm surge. "There are a lot of projects that rely on it, and it's a limited resource."
And looming sea level rise, which quickens the pace of beach erosion on developed coastlines, will only make Florida's future efforts to protect its beaches more complicated and costly.
The scarcity of sand
There's plenty of sand sitting in relatively shallow water on the continental shelf that rings Florida. But not all of it is good enough for the state's beaches. Sand that has the wrong color or grain type can harm plants and animals, like the sea turtles that build their nests along the Florida coast.
There are economic considerations, too: Florida spends billions of dollars a year advertising its pristine, white-sand beaches to tourists. Loading the shoreline up with inferior quality sand could make the state a less attractive vacation destination.
Since 1935, Florida has dredged or dug up about half a trillion tons of high-quality sand to maintain its eroding beaches, according to the National Beach Nourishment Database developed by the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association and the Army Corps. But the state's supply of good sand is running low—and once those deposits are gone, they won't come back any time soon, according to Stephen Leatherman, a professor of coastal science at Florida International University.
"For all practical purposes, they're used up," Leatherman said. New sand takes thousands of years to form, and existing sand is hard to reuse. Once beach-quality sand gets eroded away from the shoreline, it winds up scattered across the continental shelf in thin layers that are too skimpy to dredge again.
Erosion woes in Miami Beach
Miami Beach may offer a vision of Florida's future. In 1968, the Army Corps began a beach restoration project for about a dozen miles of shoreline in Miami Beach, Surfside and Bal Harbour that is still running. But Miami-Dade County, which sits on an exceptionally narrow stretch of continental shelf that is just a mile and a half wide in some places, exhausted its offshore sand supply in 2014.
Ever since, Miami Beach has had to rely on sand trucked in from Central Florida, which is more expensive. Several mines are scattered along an inland sand deposit known as the Cypresshead Formation, a stretch of extinct beach that runs west of Lake Okeechobee up toward Jacksonville along what used to be Florida's coastline. Dump trucks haul the sand from Central Florida down to Miami Beach, trundling along Collins Avenue before dropping about a dozen cubic yards of sand onto the eroding beach.
The Army Corps is currently spending $40 million to truck in 835,000 cubic yards of sand to restore about two miles of shoreline in Miami Beach, a project that will require tens of thousands of truck trips. The budget comes out to a little less than $50 per cubic yard of sand—a once unthinkable price for beach restoration.
"For sand, you're now spending $30 to $50 a cubic yard," said Karyn Erickson, president of Erickson Consulting Engineers, a Sarasota-based firm that has been working on beach restorations in Florida for three decades. "In the mid-90s, we thought it was expensive if we were paying $12 per cubic yard. $10 to $12 was the standard rate."
Sea level rise amps up beach erosion
In the future, under current projections, Florida's beaches will likely erode more quickly thanks to climate change. "Sea level rise is responsible for beach erosion," said Leatherman. "There's no way around it."
Sea level rise threatens beaches in two ways. First, higher sea levels mean water will cover more of the beach. On empty, undeveloped coastlines, the sand from the beach would get pushed inland, causing the beach to retreat. But much of Florida's coastline is built up with homes, hotels, streets, seawalls and other structures that prevent the beach from moving backward. So instead of migrating, the beach will just get thinner, Leatherman says.
Meanwhile, higher sea levels also amplify the effect of waves and storm surge. Rising sea levels destabilize existing beaches and allow eroding sand to get pulled further out to sea, according to Leatherman. That way, when a storm comes, it can do more damage to the beach.
All that means Florida's erosion challenges are only going to get harder. Adding sand back to the beaches can offer the state some temporary relief, Leatherman said. "But you're just treating the symptoms, not curing the disease," he said. "The disease is sea level rise."
The cost of beach restoration
Over the past 87 years, Florida has spent at least $1.9 billion on beach nourishment, according to the National Beach Nourishment Database. The state government now spends about $30 million to $50 million a year maintaining its beaches, and local governments contribute about the same amount.
After a hurricane, the state and counties can usually convince the federal government to foot the bill for beach restoration. But outside of emergencies, the Army Corps only picks up a fraction of the tab, leaving Florida counties and the state to devote tens of millions of dollars of their budgets to beach nourishment.
State and local officials, however, have few other choices. Erickson, the coastal engineer, says Florida should build erosion-preventing infrastructure like coastal groins on more of its beaches. Lord, the Flagler County emergency manager, says Floridians may have to move away from the coasts eventually. But no one believes Florida and its local governments can just stop spending money on beach restoration.
"The answer is, yes, we're going to have to do it over and over again. As long as we want to protect what we've got," Leatherman said. "There's over a trillion dollars of real estate in Southeast Florida along the shore. Who's going to walk away from all that?"

https://images.wsj.net/im-884907/?width=1000&size=0.8 Oreos have been an evening ritual for Shane Ransonet for years.
So he was confounded a few months ago when he opened a package and, as had long been his custom, jabbed a fork into a cookie’s creme filling to dunk it into a glass of milk. The cookie broke. Ransonet, a bottled-water salesman in New Iberia, La., showed his wife, Christine, the offending Oreo. Like others in the box, the twin chocolate wafers were smeared with just a thin coat of creme, far less, he said, than the typical blob he was used to.
The couple thought it was a fluke. This fall, they decided to test Double Stuf Oreos, a variety Shane had never cared for—too much creme. This time, he recognized the cookie immediately.
“Here we go, that’s the regular Oreo,” Ransonet, 47, told his wife.
Ransonet is one of throngs of Oreo fans who have been perturbed in recent years by what some feel could be one of the biggest inflation scandals to hit supermarkets to date: “Double Stuf” Oreos with just a normal amount of creme, and even less in the original-sized versions. Some gripe that the filling no longer reaches the wafers’ edges. Others say the cookies now bear little resemblance to the creme-stuffed images on Oreo’s packaging.
Oreos, made by snack giant Mondelez, have long attracted a devout following, making them the world’s best-selling cookie more than a century since their creation. Now, suspicion over subtle changes has prompted some devotees to protest what they believe is the latest cookie conspiracy, or try to suss out the truth about creme.
Some fans are making videos of themselves twisting Oreos open to reveal scant filling. Others touted Hydrox, an Oreo competitor. Beverly Cooper, 60, of Lincoln, Neb., said she and her husband have withstood changes to many of their favorite foods recently, from cereal to ice cream. But finding what appeared to be a downsized dusting of creme in their Double Stuf Oreos last month was the last straw.
“It’s a sign of the times,” Cooper said. “This is the way of the world now.”
On r/shrinkflation, a 100,000-user-strong Reddit forum for consumers aggrieved about all kinds of products, users bemoan the perceived cutback in creme and argue about when it took place.
“Nowadays it’s barely even a sneeze of filling on the cookies.”
“Bought a full pack. EVERY SINGLE ONE had this little cream. I even called my mom to complain about it because I needed to vent it out.” (“Hell yeah, brother, let it out,” came a reply. )
Mondelez said it has used a variety of strategies in recent years to combat higher costs for ingredients such as cocoa and sugar, from raising wholesale prices to scaling back discounts to shrinking package sizes. It hasn’t fought inflation through big changes to its products, the company said, though it welcomes feedback from fans on how to make them better. “We would be shooting ourselves in the foot if we would start to play around with the quality,” said Mondelez CEO Dirk Van de Put.
Van de Put said Mondelez is always working to improve Oreos, but that it hasn’t messed with the cookie-to-creme ratio. He said Mondelez monitors its brands closely and hasn’t noticed significant creme-related complaints, nor have they affected the $4 billion brand, which sells some 40 billion cookies in more than 100 countries each year.
Oreos have undergone changes in the 111 years since their origin. Nabisco, now owned by Mondelez, removed lard and added vegetable oil in the 1990s, making the cookies kosher. In the 2000s, Nabisco’s then-owner Kraft Foods removed trans fats from Oreos, which involved reformulating their creme.
Lynn Dornblaser, director of innovation and insight at market-research firm Mintel, said a review of regular and Double Stuf Oreos since 2004 found no observable changes in their on-pack ingredient and nutrition statements. She said consumer complaints could reflect manufacturing issues in cookie plants, adding that it’s easy for fans to notice variations in products as specific and precise as Oreos. On a recent day in November, a pack of regular Oreos in Chicago contained cookies that appeared stuffed with varying amounts of creme. Some Double Stuf cookies were similar in width to the fattest regular Oreos but the creme often spread farther to the cookie’s edge.
People have tried to unwind the mysteries of Oreos’ filling before. In 2013, a high-school math teacher in New York spearheaded an effort in his classroom to measure the amount of creme in regular, Double and Mega Stuf Oreos. Double Stuf Oreos came up short, according to the students’ measurements, offering just 1.86 times the creme of a regular Oreo. https://images.wsj.net/im-884917?width=700&size=1.951219512195122<In 2013, a high-school math teacher in New York spearheaded an effort in his classroom to measure the amount of creme in regular, Double and Mega Stuf Oreos. Perception can easily cloud reality, according to food industry analysts and brand experts, who said consumers’ distrust of big companies has grown as inflation has required consumers to pay more for the same amount or less in almost every aspect of their lives. In many cases, price increases have come through stealth changes to products or services, leaving consumers on high alert, analysts said.
Nicholas Fereday, executive director of food and consumer trends for agricultural lender Rabobank, said whether warranted or not, consumers can get particularly feisty when they suspect tinkering with an iconic brand. “It’s crossing the Rubicon,” he said.
Tweaks to Mondelez’s products have provoked outcry in the past. Fans of Toblerone revolted when the company lengthened the gaps between the “peaks” of one of its chocolate bars in the U.K. in 2016. Mondelez blamed the rising cost of ingredients for forcing the changes, which reduced the weight of the bar sold by discount retailers. The company discontinued the lighter bar two years later.
In recent years, the company debuted an Oreo two-pack, a smaller size that costs less but carries a higher profit margin.
David DiLena, a 44-year-old physicist in Ellsworth, Maine, who works on helium recycling, was shocked by how little creme he found in the Double Stuf Oreos he bought this fall. Still, he left room for debate when he uploaded a video to his Facebook page: squeezing the cookie between his fingertips, he spread the dollop of creme in the middle to the edges to reveal a layer no thicker than the wafers themselves.
“Conjecture: a double stuff Oreo is a normal Oreo,” wrote DiLena. “Judge for yourself.”
In Long Island, N.Y., Brandon Grunther, who runs a pro-wrestling podcast, said he wondered “am I going crazy?” after opening a package of Double Stuf Oreos in June. He had just tucked into an afternoon snack when he noticed the creme filling was less thick than he remembered, and its circumference was smaller too. He described his experience on Twitter, now known as X, and tagged Oreo.
Grunther said Mondelez sent him a coupon for a package of Oreos in response, but he hasn’t used it yet—he’s waiting for the release of a new, unusual flavor.
“I appreciated it,” Grunther, 34, said. “Though I definitely would rather just have more creme.” Good thing I stick with Fig Newtons!:yep::arrgh!::shucks:

Well this certainly took some time in coming but better late then never I suppose.
France has issued an international arrest warrant for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, accused of complicity in crimes against humanity over chemical attacks in 2013, a judicial source and plaintiffs in the case said Wednesday.
The judicial source told AFP Assad was also suspected of complicity in war crimes for the attacks, blamed by the opposition on the regime, that killed more than 1,400 people near Damascus in August 2013.
International warrants were also issued for the arrests of Assad's brother Maher, the de-facto chief of a Syrian elite military unit, and two armed forces generals.
The Paris court's unit concerned with crimes against humanity has been investigating the chemical attacks since 2021.
France claims worldwide jurisdiction for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The probe followed a legal complaint filed by the Syrian Centre for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM) NGO, lawyers' association Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI) and the Syrian Archive, a body documenting human rights violations in Syria.

Officials Find Michigan Woman Trapped Inside Toilet Over 1 Stinkin' Gadget
BAGLEY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A woman was rescued Tuesday from an outhouse toilet in northern Michigan after she climbed in to retrieve her Apple Watch and became trapped.
The woman, whose name was not released, lowered herself inside the toilet after dropping the watch at the Department of Natural Resources boat launch at Dixon Lake in Otsego County’s Bagley Township, state police said Wednesday in a release.
First responders were called when the woman was heard yelling for help. The toilet was removed and a strap was used to haul the woman out.

Though this article was written two years ago, I’m not sure if anything besides talk has actually been done about it yet. But did you know the trash the E.U. and U.S. sent over seas to be processed was just dumped back into ocean or just strewn about?
Worst part of this story was it took over 2 decades for those illustrious investigative journalists to cover it. So back in the 90s when we got our recycling bin from the city, turns out they were just shipping our trash worldwide. :har:
This is why you should never trust your government, or those bleeding heart liberal environmentalists.
EU eyes tighter waste rules to limit countries shipping trash abroad
By Kate Abnett
November 17, 202112:17 PM EST
Updated 2 years ago
https://www.reuters.com/business/environment/eu-eyes-tighter-waste-rules-limit-countries-shipping-trash-abroad-2021-11-17/
BRUSSELS, Nov 17 (Reuters) - The European Commission on Wednesday proposed a revamp of EU rules on waste shipments to make it harder for member states to offload their trash into poorer countries.
The proposed legislation, which needs approval from European Union countries and the European parliament, is part of Brussels' plan to reduce pollution and ensure materials like plastic, textiles and metals are reused and recycled, rather than thrown away.
"The goal is to make the EU take a greater responsibility for the waste it produces. That's not the case today and that's what needs to change," said EU environment policy chief Virginijus Sinkevicius.
The EU exported around 33 million tonnes of waste last year, around half of which went to poorer non-OECD countries with weaker waste management rules than in the EU - effectively shipping EU pollution abroad.
"Just think about all that plastic litter that comes from bad waste management," Sinkevicius said.
Under the proposal, a non-OECD country would need to notify Brussels that it wants to receive EU waste shipments, and prove it can treat the waste in an environmentally sound manner. If the country can do that, EU states can ship their waste there.
Waste exports to OECD countries would also face EU monitoring, and Brussels could suspend them if, after concerns are raised about such exports causing pollution in a certain country, there is insufficient evidence that the country can sustainably manage them.
EU companies would need to carry out independent audits for non-EU facilities to which they send waste, the Commission said, to prove they can treat the waste sustainably.
The EU proposal aims to push the 27 member countries to improve their capacity to reuse and process waste at home.
It would simplify rules for waste shipments within the EU, to help ensure plastic, paper, iron and steel can reach European recycling facilities. Brussels also wants more powers to investigate illegal waste shipments, it said.
The metals recycling industry has criticised the EU proposal, saying it treats plastic waste washing up on beaches and high-quality metal that goes into smelters the same way.
"They are comparing apples with oranges," said European Metal Recycling's Murat Bayram, adding that added red tape to export scrap metal would hurt the industry by preventing excess material from reaching end markets where they are needed.

Another spotless giraffe has been discovered — this time, on a reserve in Namibia
A baby reticulated giraffe at a Tennessee zoo made international headlines last month when word got out that she was born without her spots. It was thought to be the only living giraffe in the world to hold the title — that is, until a wild spotless giraffe was, well, spotted at a reserve in Africa.
The Giraffe Conservation Foundation announced in a Monday news release that the spotless giraffe was found roaming around the Mount Etjo Safari Lodge, a private game reserve in Namibia. The foundation says the Angolan giraffe is the first ever spotless giraffe found in the wild.

Child of the Sun Mass Market Paperback – October 1, 1972
Child of the Sun by Kyle Onstott & Lance Horner (1966)
Overview: This brilliant and brutally intimate novel accurately captures the depravity and intrigue of Ancient Rome. It tells the story of the youth Varius Avitus Bassianus, destined to become Emperor of the Roman empire. Varius spurned women. His erotic longings searched out a very different kind of love. Whatever or whomever he fancied was quickly offered to him. And no man, be he soldier or citizen, dared refuse him. As his perverted passions grew more and more bizarre, even the voluptuaries of Rome recoiled in horror.
Elagabalus (Latin: Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus; c. 203 – 11 March 222), also known as Heliogabalus, was Roman Emperor from 218 to 222. A member of the Severan Dynasty, he was Syrian, the second son of Julia Soaemias and Sextus Varius Marcellus. In his early youth he served as a priest of the god Elagabal (in Latin, Elagabalus) in the hometown of his mother's family, Emesa. As a private citizen, he was probably named Sextus Varius Avitus Bassianus. Upon becoming emperor he took the name Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus. He was called Elagabalus only after his death.

Couple who stole shopping will be very disappointed when they open bag they took
A pair of elderly thieves may have been in for a shock after pinching a businessman’s shopping from the back of his car.
Ian Russell said an ‘old couple’ were seen taking his carrier bags out of the boot in the car park of the Crown pub in Bridgnorth, Shropshire last weekend.
But the Shropshire Star reported the bags simply contained an extra large box of medicine used to help in the recovery from diarrhoea.
Ian, a managing director at building supplier R&B, wrote on Facebook: ‘To the old couple seen stealing my shopping bags from rear of my vehicle at 5pm tonight [Saturday] on the Crown car park.
‘I sincerely hope that you need the large box of Diarolite more than me.’

I remember several years ago here the usual suspects were labeling Geert as a Hitler lovin’ far right wing extremist bent on the destruction of all things holy (and they still do). Because you know the feeling of diversity, equity and inclusion is most important to them  But unabated, uncontrolled immigration has nothing to do with that, in fact it’s dangerous. Every country’s leaders has a duty to its present citizenship and every right and responsibility to screen and regulate the flow of potential new citizens and select the ones that will bring benefit to their country.
We have our own immigration problems in the melting pot called the U.S.A. But we have enough real estate to accommodate damn near every one of them. I believe that like my grandparents the majority of immigrants still come here wanting to assimilate and bust their arse working to achieve the American dream not sit on it waiting for the European style socialist benefits so they can devote their days praying to allah rama ding dong. Though I will admit it does seem when migrants wind up in already to congested cities in the U.S., problems do arise.
Europe seems too small to accommodate the massive amounts of middle eastern immigrants always heading your way. You all got some problems. Islam is a peaceful religion, but there can be no peace until all have submitted to Islam. Good luck.

The two tiny islands just two miles apart but with a 21 hour time difference
Two neighbouring tiny islands occupying the same strait are just two miles apart but separated by nearly an entire day.
The Diomede islands - two little landmasses known as Big Diomede and Little Diomede - lie in an unusual spot just below the Arctic Circle.
They are sandwiched between Russia to their west and the US via Alaska to their east, with one owned by each nation.
Russia has claimed the larger of the two isles, an empty plot of land, and the US the smaller, inhabited landmass.
They are connected to their mainland sponsors primarily via their time zones, which, in turn, significantly separates the small islands.
While they are only two miles apart, Little Diomede follows the Alaskan timezone, Alaska Standard Time, while Big Diomede follows the Anadyr, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug timezone, and Anadyr Time.
Following those two timezones means they are separated by the International Date Line, which places them 21 hours apart.

Woman threatens to pee in plane aisle after being ‘refused access to bathroom’
A woman has drawn screams from her fellow passengers after pulling down her clothes and threatening to urinate in the aisle of a plane.
Footage shared online shows the woman standing in the aisle and apologising to fellow passengers after staff reportedly didn’t allow her to use the bathroom.
She said ‘sorry everybody’ before she pulled down her leggings and began to squat, leading to passengers around her gasping and screaming.
Thankfully, it appears she didn’t urinate on the plane floor, and she swiftly pulled her leggings back on.

Debunking the myth of the male hunter: Prehistoric women were BETTER at hunting than men, study claims
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-12799713/Debunking-myth-male-hunter-Prehistoric-women-BETTER-hunting-men-study-claims.html
While women have long been seen as child-rearers and gatherers and men as hunters, researchers from the Univeristy of Notre Dame have debunked this theory.
Their study found that not only did prehistoric women engage in the practice of hunting, but their female anatomy and biology would have made them intrinsically better suited for it. The main reasons for this biological advantage are hormones - in this case, oestrogen and adiponectin, which are typically present in higher quantities in female bodies than in male.Professor Ocobock said: 'Since fat contains more calories than carbs do, it's a longer, slower burn, which means that the same sustained energy can keep you going longer and can delay fatigue.
Who would have thought that?, I would hazard a guess that those Woolly Mammoths were laughing so much that they had a bleeding heart attack. Mind you, those Male Horny Mammoths could have been aroused so much at the sight of a pair of tits that they tripped up over their fifth leg and broke their bloody necks.
I think the world records below should have been checked first before these Woke Nutters even started their study, you never know, they might even have come up with a different Theory than this one, but I doubt it.

Customer sues Chopt eatery chain over salad that she says contained a piece of manager’s finger
MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. (AP) — A customer has filed a lawsuit against the fast casual chain Chopt over a salad that she says contained a piece of the manager’s finger.
The lawsuit filed Monday by Allison Cozzi of Greenwich, Connecticut, alleges that she bought a salad at a Chopt location in Mount Kisco, New York, on April 7, 2023, and realized while eating it that “she was chewing on a portion of a human finger that had been mixed in to, and made a part of, the salad.”
According to the suit, a manager at the restaurant accidentally severed a piece of her left pointer finger while chopping arugula.
The manager went to the hospital but the contaminated arugula was served to customers including Cozzi, the lawsuit says.
Westchester County health department records show that Chopt was fined $900.
Cozzi said in the lawsuit that she suffered injuries including shock, panic attacks, migraine, cognitive impairment, nausea, dizziness, and neck and shoulder pain as a result of eating the contaminated salad.
She is seeking unspecified monetary damages.

Six teens on trial in Paris in the beheading of a French teacher
The victim showed caricatures of the prophet of Islam to his class. The students are accused of identifying the teacher to the attacker who killed him.

By The Associated Press
PARIS — Six teenagers are on trial Monday in Paris for their alleged roles in the beheading of a teacher who showed caricatures of the prophet of Islam to his class, a killing that led authorities to reaffirm France’s cherished rights of expression and secularism.
Samuel Paty, a history and geography teacher, was killed on Oct. 16, 2020, near his school in a northwest Paris suburb by an 18-year-old of Chechen origin who had become radicalized. The attacker was in turn shot dead by police.
Paty’s name was disclosed on social media after a class debate on free expression during which he showed caricatures published by the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, which triggered a newsroom massacre by extremists in January 2015.
All hearings at a Paris juvenile court are to be held behind closed doors in accordance with French law regarding minors.
The defendants arrived Monday morning at the Paris court, their faces hidden behind masks and hoods, accompanied by their families. The media are not allowed to disclose their identity.
Among those going on trial, a teenage girl, who was 13 at the time, is accused of making false allegations for wrongly saying that Paty had asked Muslim students to raise their hands and leave the classroom before he showed the cartoons. She later told investigators she had lied. She was not in the classroom that day and Paty did not make such a request, the investigation has shown.
Five other students of Paty’s school, then 14 and 15, are facing charges of criminal conspiracy with the aim of preparing aggravated violence to be committed.
They are accused of having waited for Paty for several hours until he left the school and of having identified him to the killer in exchange for promises of payments of 300-350 euros ($348-$406).
The investigation established that the attacker knew the name of the teacher and the address of his school, but he did not have the means to identify him.
The lawyer for one of the defendants, Antoine Ory, said his client is “tormented by remorse and very much afraid of the confrontation with Mr. Paty’s family.” He said the teenager "obviously didn’t know about the criminal plan” of the killer, Abdoullakh Anzorov, a Moscow-born Chechen refugee.
Ory said his client since then had “difficult” times, changed schools and friends and now sees the trial as an opportunity to turn the page.
All six teenagers are facing 2 1/2 years in prison. The trial is scheduled to end on Dec. 8.
Louis Cailliez, the lawyer for Paty’s sister, Mickaëlle, said she wants “to understand the real causes” that led the students to commit something irreparable. He pointed to the “fatal combination of little acts of cowardice, big lies, calumnies, arrangements, complicity and help without which Samuel Paty would still be alive.”

US Customs officials seize giraffe faeces from woman at Minnesota airport
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Federal customs agents pooh-poohed the plans of an Iowa woman who wanted to make jewelry from giraffe faeces she picked up on a trip to Kenya and brought back to the U.S. in her luggage.
The woman declared the small box of feces when she was selected to have her belongings inspected upon arriving at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport on Sept. 29, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The woman, who was not identified, told officials she planned to use the waste to make a necklace, as she had done in the past with moose poop.
Giraffe poop can be brought back to the U.S. with the proper permits and inspections, according to Minnesota Public Radio. The station reported that the woman won’t face sanctions because she declared the faeces and gave it to Customs.
The agency’s agriculture specialists destroyed the giraffe poop.

The man was not arrested and was taken to hospital after jumping out of the plane, which had not yet taken off.

The Southwest Airlines flight had not yet taken off from Louis Armstrong International Airport at that point on Sunday night.
"There is no indication that the man left anything on the plane, nor was he found in possession of any weapons of any type," Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

‘Alien corpses’ unveiled by scientists confirmed as ‘not human’ after DNA revelation
The pair of Mexican 'alien corpses' initially unveiled by scientists have been confirmed as 'not human' in recent developments.
Back in September, a rather unexpected discovery was made in the form of two ‘non-human’ corpses believed to be 1,000 years old.
The bodies were presented during a congressional hearing in Mexico City by journalist and ufologist Jaime Maussan, who claimed they had been analyzed by the Autonomous National University of Mexico (UNAM), where scientists established an age by extracting DNA and using radiocarbon dating.
Maussan, speaking under oath at the San Lazaro Legislative Congress, said: “These specimens are not part of our terrestrial evolution… These aren’t beings that were found after a UFO wreckage. They were found in diatom [algae] mines, and were later fossilised.”
The two mummified corpses were displayed in windowed boxes, having been retrieved from Cusco in Peru.

Well I guess I'll feel less offended the next time someone refers to me as a 'Retired Pig'
Fears 'super pigs' could invade US states - and it's not easy to eradicate them
The pigs are an intelligent and large breed, capable of tearing land up and devastating crops and wildlife. Hunting could make the problem even worse, so states are preparing in other ways.
As a cross-breed combining the Eurasian boar's survival skills with the size and fertility of domestic swine in Canada, the "super pig" is described as an "ecological train wreck".
Professor Ryan Brook, one of Canada's authorities on the issue, added they are the "most invasive animal on the planet", with the swine capable of spreading disease and devastating crops and wildlife.
"Nobody should be surprised when pigs start walking across that border, if they haven't already," Professor Brook said.
"The question is: what will be done about it?"
Northern states like Minnesota, North Dakota and Montana are taking steps to stop the invasion, but it isn't easy to control the spiralling population.
The pigs are smart and furry, giving them the edge to survive Canadian winters, and they reproduce extremely quickly.
One sow can have six piglets in a litter and raise two litters in a year - which means that even if authorities managed to eliminate 65% of the population each year, they'd still grow.
And hunting could make the problem worse, according to Professor Brook, with the success rate for hunters only about 2- 3%.
Several states have also banned hunting because it makes the pigs more wary and nocturnal, which makes them tougher to track down.
Instead, methods under consideration are ground traps - like the so-called "BoarBuster" - or net guns fired from helicopters.
Some states have also adopted crowdsourced "Squeal on Pigs" tracking programs, while scientists have studied poisons such as sodium nitrite, but they risk harming other species.
"The only path forward is you have to be really aggressive and you have to use all the tools in the toolbox," Professor Brook said.
Pigs already cost $2.5bn (£1.98bn) in damage to crops in the US each year, mostly in southern states.
They have also, on occasion, been known to attack humans, with one woman killed in Texas in 2019.
The animals are not native to North America, but have roamed there for centuries.
The problems in Canada date back to the 1980s, when farmers were encouraged to raise wild boar, before the market collapsed in 2001 and some frustrated farmers simply set the animals free.

Escaped kangaroo captured after punching Canadian officer
Dec 4 (Reuters) - A kangaroo that escaped its handlers during transport to a new home was captured on Monday east of Toronto after a weekend in the wild, but not before delivering a punch in the face to one of the police officers who brought her run to an end.
The female kangaroo hopped over her handlers late on Thursday during a rest stop at the Oshawa Zoo and Fun Farm in Ontario, the park's supervisor and head keeper, Cameron Preyde, told CBC.

Overdue book returned to Pennsylvania library after nearly 120 years
Dec. 6 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania library said a book returned to the facility after being spotted at a book sale was nearly 120 years overdue.
The Carbondale Public Library said in a Facebook post that the book, The Cruise of the Esmeralda by Harry Collingwood, was returned by personnel from the Hawley Library, who spotted the tome at a book sale.
The book still bears a pocket inside the cover listing the library's rules and contains a library card issued to Horace Short in 1904.
The library said the book was checked out for 43,641 days, which would have accrued a fine of $872.82 at the 1904 rate of 2 cents per day, or $10,910.25 at the current rate of 25 cents per day.
"Mr. Short is very lucky we currently cap fines for books at $10," the library said in a comment under the post.

Worker At Chinese Brewery Filmed Peeing In Tank
The China-based Tsingtao Brewery is facing a brouhaha thanks to a now-viral video that reportedly shows a worker at one of the company’s factories peeing into a tank.
The video, which was posted Thursday on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, shows a man in a worker’s uniform urinating in the tank, according to the BBC.
Tsingtao has not confirmed whether the culprit worked at the factory.
A Chinese language business publication quoted by the BBC claims neither the person who urinated in the tank nor the person who took the video were “direct employees” of Tsingtao.
Tsingtao released a statement saying that the batch of malt in the tank had been sealed off from use and that the urination had been reported at the “first opportunity,” according to CNBC.
“The company places high importance on the media reports and has reported the matter to the public security authorities at the first opportunity. The public security authorities are presently involved in the investigation,” according to the statement.
Of course, there were jokes on social media, with one person commenting, “I’ve always said the beer here is like horse pee. Turns out I was wrong,” and another quipping, “Thanks, I think I’ll have wine instead,” per the South China Morning Post.
The incident may have been great fodder for cheap laughs, but not for beer sales.
Tsingtao Brewery shares fell sharply on Monday when the Shanghai Stock Exchange opened, but recovered by the afternoon, CNBC reported.

Scientists make VR goggles for mice so they can feel what it is like to be attacked by a bird
Researchers have developed VR goggles for laboratory mice to simulate a life of freedom - and let them feel what it's like to be hunted by a bird.
No, it's not 1 April - these compact virtual reality specs really have been custom-built to perfectly fit a mouse.
Dubbed Miniature Rodent Stereo Illumination VR (iMRSIV), the headgear is made up of two lenses and two screens, split between both eyes to give the rodents an immersive 3D picture.
Like VR for humans, the mice cannot see the outside world and are made to feel like they're somewhere else.
But unlike the headsets we might wear, which wrap around our heads, these perch in front of the mouse's face.

Suffolk: Escaped reindeer that blocked A-road after fleeing Santa's grotto attraction recaptured
Two reindeer, which caused a dual carriageway to be closed after escaping a Christmas attraction on a rural estate, have been caught.
The animals hoofed it from Elveden Estate in Suffolk on Sunday, where they had been taken to be part of a Santa's grotto event.
The pair wandered on to the A11 near Barton Mills, forcing police to temporarily close the road in both directions at around 3.20pm on Sunday afternoon.
Officers from Suffolk Police took part in attempts to recapture the reindeer, which were paused overnight.
Efforts resumed on Monday and the animals were caught by 12.05pm.

Euro 2024 draw disrupted by sex noises
Sex noises disrupted the official draw for next year's Euro 2024 football tournament, prompting an investigation by organisers.
Lewd sounds could be heard as Switzerland was named in the same group as Scotland, Hungary, and hosts Germany, leading to smirks among audience members.
There were further indecent interruptions as the UEFA draw continued in Hamburg on Saturday.
This was despite an attempt by host Giorgio Marchetti, the deputy general secretary of European football's governing body, to take control of the situation.
He said: "There is some noise here that… has now stopped. No noise any more."
Asked if he had noticed any unusual sounds in the hall, England boss Gareth Southgate said: "I did. I'm assuming it was some sort of prank, but it was hard to really make out what it was."
UEFA declined to officially comment, but it is understood the governing body will investigate to understand what happened and how.
Internet prankster Daniel Jarvis later claimed responsibility for the stunt.
He broadcast himself live on X, formerly Twitter, ringing a mobile phone to trigger the noises at the event.

Venice: Tourists flip gondola after refusing to stop taking selfies
A group of tourists fell in a Venice canal when their gondola capsized after they reportedly ignored orders to stop taking selfies.
The gondolier shouted at them to sit down and stay still as he tried to manoeuvre under a bridge, according to local media.
But they apparently ignored him and all the weight ended up on one side, capsizing the boat and flipping them into the cold canal.
The gondolier helped one to shore and then dived back in to rescue the others from Rio de la Verona, near La Fenice opera house.
Onlookers filmed Saturday's spectacle and footage of the drenched tourists clinging to the boat went viral on sites like TikTok.
Social media account Venezia Non e Disneyland (Venice is not Disneyland) said the group were given a "warm place" to dry off. No one was hurt in the accident.
There are persistent complaints about over-tourism in the Italian city, with holidaymakers and cruise ship daytrippers packing Venice for most of the year.
It was revealed last week that a €5 daily charge will be introduced from next year for visitors on certain days between April and July.
In 2021, Venice also banned cruise ships from entering the historic centre amid concerns about pollution and erosion of the city's foundations.

'Oh man I'm locked in!': Man pleads for help on Twitter after falling asleep in shop massage chair
A man was forced to tweet for help when he got locked in a department store after falling asleep on a massage chair.
The man awoke to a deserted shop floor after dozing off in an electronics store in Japan.
Identified only by his twitter handle, @_Asphodelus, the sleepy customer was forced to tweet his plight when he discovered he was locked inside the shop.
Posting various photos of a dark and empty interior, he captioned the photo: “Oh man, I’m locked in!”
It is thought the man triggered an alarm which notified the police, who managed to get in touch with the shop's manager.
After 10 police officers searched him to confirm he was not a shoplifter, he tweeted that he had finally managed to get out.
The manager apologised to the man for staff's failure to notice he was still in the chair when locking up.
The man also said sorry, although it was unclear how long he nodded off for.
His original post has since been retweeted more than 39,000 times.
In response one user, @sasuga_23, simply said: “How did this happen?”
Yonedore replied: “It is a valuable experience.”
Others commented it was their childhood dream to be locked inside a department store, while others likened the man’s predicament to popular ‘escape the room’ style games.

Tesco recalls Christmas stuffing because it may contain moths
Tesco is recalling a Christmas stuffing product because it might contain moths.
The supermarket chain said the warning applied to Tesco Finest Apple & Cranberry Stuffing Mix 130g with the best before end date of September 2024.
"We are recalling a single batch of Tesco Finest Apple & Cranberry Stuffing Mix due to the possible presence of moths which makes the product unfit for human consumption," the official recall notice said.
In the warning issued through the Food Standards Agency, the retailer said anyone who had bought the affected stuffing should "not consume this product".
Customers are advised to return the product to a branch of the supermarket, where they will be given a refund. No receipt is required.
"Tesco apologises to our customers for any inconvenience caused," the statement added.
Cranberry has become a staple of traditional Christmas dinners, having first become popular as part of Thanksgiving feasts in the US.
The recall notice included no explanation as to how moths may have come to be present in the stuffing, but Tesco has been contacted for comment.

Family find baby owl living in Christmas tree
One family got a little something extra when they picked out their Christmas tree this year - a baby owl.
Every year the White family of Lexington, Kentucky, pick their own tree and bring it home - and this year was no different.
And it was not until four days after they had put it up in the living room and decorated it before they found the intruder.
Michele White told WDKY-TV: "I have three dogs. We use this room non-stop, watching TV, the kitchen's right here, no indication."
Carpet cleaner Bobby Hayes noticed the bird after plugging in a piece of equipment and seeing the tree start to sway.
"The owl was literally sitting on a lower limb here," Mr Hayes said.
"It crawled up into the tree further. It took me several minutes to even find it."
He sent photos to Mrs White, who said she was glad he was there to deal with the animal.
Mr Hayes safely released the owl in the family's back garden.

Man Arrested After Allegedly Molesting Manatee Statue At Florida Restaurant
A Pittsburgh man is facing a disorderly intoxication charge in Florida after he allegedly molested a manatee statue at a St. Petersburg restaurant.
Anthony Lessa, 23, was arrested last week in connection with the alleged incidents, which happened at two separate businesses.
Authorities arrived on the scene after getting a call from Rick Reef’s Restaurant on St. Pete Beach that an intoxicated person was causing a disturbance.
According to NBC Miami, Lessa allegedly got angry after restaurant employees told him he had already paid his bill and it was time for him to go.
Once outside, he allegedly “molested” a plastic manatee located in the restaurant’s parking lot, which prompted another request from an employee that he leave.
Officials said Lessa got “physically aggressive” with the employee, and that he allegedly started tossing gator nuggets ― that is, deep-fried pieces of alligator meat ― into the Rick’s Reef dining room.
Lessa was taken to the Pinellas County Jail and booked on a disorderly intoxication charge before being released on his own recognizance.

Woman wins $50,000 after husband buys wrong lottery ticket
Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A Kentucky woman won a $50,000 lottery jackpot, thanks to her husband accidentally buying the wrong ticket.
Tanya Hammonds, of Newport, told Kentucky Lottery officials she asked her husband to buy her preferred scratch-off tickets at the Circle K on East 10th Street in Newport, but he mistakenly brought home tickets that were shelved just to the right of the tickets she wanted.
The mistake proved fortunate, as one of the $50,000 Ca$h scratch-off tickets turned out to be a $50,000 winner.
"Before I scratched the numbers, I scratched off the barcode and scanned it," Hammonds told lottery officials. "I saw $50,000 and I thought the app was malfunctioning."
Hammonds discovered all 30 spots on the ticket revealed winning numbers, for a total prize of $50,000.
The winner said the first thing she did was take a picture of the ticket and send a screenshot of the app to her mother.
Hammonds did not reveal whether she has any immediate plans for her winnings.

EU's shame as bloc uses wrong Croatia flag with coat of arms of Nazi-allied party
The European Commission is under heavy fire after it apparently published a document headed with the coat of arms of the fascist former government of Croatia, which was an ally of the Nazis in World War Two. Red-faced officials have since removed the document from the Commission website, published on December 18 according to a Croatian news outlet, however not before sparking outrage in the eastern European state.
The document, containing Croatia's proposed "national energy and climate plan", was emblazoned with the Croatian flag. However, the insignia in its centre was the symbol of the country's fascist party the Ustaše, which ruled for four years during the Second World War.

Parents lie to daughter for 15 years to stop her eating their Ferrero Rochers
A woman says she was 'betrayed' by her parents, who lied to her about having a nut allergy for 15 years - all because they didn't want to share their Ferrero Rocher chocolates.
When you're a parent, it can be hard to sneakily eat a treat without your child noticing. This might lead to some less-than-dignified moments of eating chocolate while hiding behind the fridge door - or even locking yourself in the bathroom.
But one set of parents took things even further - by lying to their daughter for 15 years so that she wouldn't eat their chocolates. The 21-year-old, who had stayed away from any kind of nuts, decided to take a test to find out the exact source of her problems.
After taking the test, she found out she was allergic to a few things - including prawns, cucumbers, chickpeas and curry. However, her jaw dropped when she realised nuts weren't on the list.

Spider lays eggs in man's toe during cruise holiday
A cruise ship passenger has told of his horror after discovering a spider had laid eggs inside his toe - including one that hatched.
Colin Blake and his wife were spending the evening in Marseille, in the south of France, after the ship had docked on their 35th wedding anniversary trip - when his toe swelled up and turned purple.
The following day, he visited the on-board doctor who told him a Peruvian wolf spider had bitten him and laid eggs inside his toe.
Wolf spiders, which are not poisonous, are often found in the French port city after arriving on cargo ships.
Mr Blake, who lives in Cramlington, Northumberland, told BBC Radio Scotland: "My wife thought it may be because I had new sandals and they were rubbing on my big toe and that was causing it to be red."
The doctor cut his toe open, causing the spider's eggs to pour out.
After the holiday, Mr Blake went to hospital in the UK where doctors prescribed antibiotics - but four weeks later, he noticed something else unusual in his toe.
On another visit to the doctors, they discovered one of the eggs had hatched into a small spider, which was stuck underneath his skin.
He said: "They believe the spider was making its way out - eating its way out of my toe."
Mr Blake chose not to keep the dead spider when asked by medics.

Powerful solar flare knocks out radio, could be headed for Earth: ‘One of the largest ever recorded’
By Social Links for Ben Cost
Published Dec. 15, 2023, 9:57 a.m. ET
"Brace for impact: The sun just emitted the strongest solar flare in six years, which knocked out radio frequencies and could hit Earth in several days’ time, scientists warned."
“This is likely one of the largest solar radio events ever recorded,” NOAA wrote Thursday in a report (https://www.spaceweather.gov/news/strongest-solar-flare-solar-cycle-25) regarding the flare, which is caused by localized explosions on the sun’s surface that expel intense bursts of electromagnetic radiation (https://www.space.com/solar-flares-effects-classification-formation)."
The alarming solar event occurred Thursday after an active sunspot named AR 3514 erupted with a large class X.28 solar flare — the most powerful variety that the sun is capable of producing (https://www.sciencealert.com/the-sun-just-erupted-with-the-most-powerful-solar-flare-in-years), as seen in ominous photos captured by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory."
It was the most intense blast our star had generated since September 2017.
If this is the case, we could be in for a geomagnetic storm as soon as December 17.

'Zombie deer': Everything you need to know about disease spreading across the country

Concerns from epidemiologists (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/infectious-disease) are growing that chronic wasting disease, colloquially known as zombie disease (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/healthcare/chronic-wasting-disease-found-in-deer-at-yellowstone), may be able to spread from deer (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tag/deer)to humans,
but public health agencies are remaining optimistic."We’re dealing with a disease that is invariably fatal, incurable, and highly contagious," Cory Anderson,

Animals causing record number of vehicle breakdowns - and rats are prime troublemaker
Breakdowns caused by animals somehow making their way inside vehicles have reached record levels - with rats accounting for most of the mischief.
According to the RAC, the firm was called out to 303 incidents of animal damage in the first 11 months of 2023, which is more than the same period during any other year on record.
It's also a massive 55% increase from the 196 incidents reported between January and November in 2018.
The figures do not include incidents when a vehicle has struck an animal.
More than half of the animal damage this year was caused by rats, which are often found gnawing away at fuel hoses, infesting engine bays and breaking headlights.
Foxes were also guilty of chewing at speed sensor wiring, windscreen wiper blades and brake hoses.
RAC patrol Nick Isaac, who works in southwest England, said he discovered a squirrel using a car's air filter to stockpile nuts.
"The car had lost power and had an odd smell. When I lifted the bonnet and revved the engine, the air filter moved like it was being sucked towards the engine," he said.

Drivers are warned rodents can be attracted to vehicles with food inside or nearby, or left unused for long periods.
One patrol found 10 mice had made a nest in a Porsche, under a panel at the bottom of the windscreen.
Another was called to retrieve a baby pet python that had been attracted by the warm brakes of its owner's car and placed itself behind a wheel trim.

Californian passes state bar exam at age 17 and is sworn in as an attorney
Updated 6:48 PM EST, December 8, 2023
"VISALIA, Calif. (AP) — A county prosecutor’s office says one of its law clerks passed the State Bar of California exam at age 17.
The Tulare County District Attorney’s Office said this week that, according to research, Peter Park is the youngest person to pass the exam.
The State Bar said Friday in an email to The Associated Press that it could not confirm that Park is the youngest, but it hailed his achievement."
"Park graduated high school in 2021 by taking the state’s high school proficiency exam and focused on law school, graduating this year.
He became a law clerk for the District Attorney’s office in August, turned 18 in late November and was sworn in as an attorney on Tuesday."

ITV viewers vent their 'blood is boiling and feel sick to their stomach' just minutes into Mr Bates vs The Post Office
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-12918473/ITV-viewers-vent-blood-boiling-just-minutes-Mr-Bates-vs-Post-Office.html
None of those Post Office Executives have ever been to prison or will ever likely to step foot inside one either, when you're protected by the "Establishment" you are gifted a "Get Out Of Jail Card" which lasts until you exit this mortal realm.
The CEO, Paula Vennells was awarded a CBE in 2020, who nominated her and who signed it off is still a mystery, and all this was taking place while her and her cronies were under intense scrutiny in a court of law, goodness me, we've really let the establishment get away with this kind of behaviour for far too long.
Post Office scandal
In December 2019, the Post Office paid out £58 million to sub-postmasters who were awarded compensation for past false prosecutions of monetary theft that had been based on faulty evidence from the Horizon IT system. The judge presiding on the case, Mr Justice Fraser, described the Post Office's approach to the case as "institutional obstinacy" that amounted, in reality, to bare assertions and denials that ignore what has actually occurred, at least so far as the witnesses called before me in the Horizon Issues trial are concerned. It amounts to the 21st century equivalent of maintaining that the earth is flat.
In January 2020, as the High Court case against the Post Office ended, Vennells's tenure as CEO was strongly criticised by Conservative peer Lord Arbuthnot, who said: "The hallmark of Paula Vennells' time as CEO was that she was willing to accept appalling advice from people in her management and legal teams. The consequences of this were far-reaching for the Post Office and devastating for the subpostmasters. However, there seem to have been no consequences for her."He described the behaviour of the Post Office under her leadership as "both cruel and incompetent", and said that "she was faced with a moral choice and she took the wrong one, the one which allowed hundreds of subpostmasters to be falsely accused, humiliated and ruined by the organisation she ran".
Edit.
I binge watched this 4 part programme last night and it was quite an eye opener.

Baroness Bra flogs her assets 'for a £29M loss': Michelle Mone and billionaire husband launch £80m fire sale of their £41m Caribbean villa, £7m superyacht and £7.5m private jet after her bank accounts were frozen amid PPE scandal

As usual the media have got it wrong again, they do this on purpose to try and sensationalise everything, what the headline means is, if she sells them at the prices in the headline above she will make a loss of £29 million.
Rich people don't need to have a fire sale, they'll have friends who will give them access to money, all for the correct price of course, the items "Baroness Bra" is selling will sell themselves on their own merit, other rich people would buy them for a bit of a knockdown price but, fire sale?, Never.

Game over! Teenager becomes first person to 'beat' Tetris
A teenager from Oklahoma appears to have become the first person to "beat" Tetris.
Willie Gibson posted a video on YouTube which shows the moment when the classic video game crashes as he reaches level 157.
The stunned 13-year-old gasps: "Oh my god ... I'm going to pass out."
"I can't feel my fingers, I can't feel my hands… I'm going to pass out," Willie adds, as he tries to catch his breath. "I'm shaking so bad."
It took the teenager, who goes by the name blue scuti on YouTube, just 38 minutes to cause the game to crash - which has never been done by a human.
Tetris, which sees players manoeuvre and arrange falling blocks into complete lines which then disappear, was created by Soviet engineer Alexey Pajitnov in 1984.
As a player progresses, the speed of the falling blocks increases.
It was long believed that level 29 - which introduces the fastest speed in the game - was the furthest level possible.
But as YouTuber aGameScout explains in an analysis of Willie's achievement, someone finally hit level 30 in 2011.
Other human players have since managed to get even further but, until now, only AI computers have reached Tetris's true ending.
Willie wrote in his YouTube video description: "When I started playing this game, I never expected to ever crash the game, or beat it.
"This run was also the Overall Score, Level, Lines, and 19 Score world record."

The couple who 'sold everything' to live on cruise ships for the rest of their lives
John and Melody Hennessee plan to spend the rest of their lives cruising around the world - and they reckon it could be as much as half as expensive as their life on land.
The couple, originally from Florida, sold almost everything they owned three years ago, including their main business and their home, and bought a motorhome to travel around the United States.
But then John, 76, got tired of driving, says Melody, 64.
Then they saw an advert on Facebook for a 274-day cruise with Royal Caribbean, and their journey to a permanent life at sea began.
The pair are currently cruising around the Dominican Republic as part of the latest in a series of long-term sailings, which have taken them to places including Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.
But while their new life is more exciting, they say it is cheaper too.
"We now have a telephone bill, a ship bill, and a few credit card bills for when we go ashore, but that's it," says John.
"We no longer have a mortgage or the expense of homes. We no longer have vehicle insurance, property insurance, or utility bills. The list goes on. We are certain cruising is cheaper.
"Right now it is probably close to half of what it was when we lived on land."

As Met Police confirm criminal probe, Jeremy Hunt says he will do 'everything' he can to speed up compensation to victims of Post Office scandal
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12934259/As-Met-Police-confirm-criminal-probe-Jeremy-Hunt-says-speed-compensation-victims-Post-Office-scandal.html
Firstly.
If the TV Programme Mr Bates vs The Post Office hadn't been made the government and the Post Office would have kept on dragging their feet until all the sub postmasters were dead and buried. Now it's out in the open the government will fast track it to make it seem as if they had complete control of it from start to finish.
By all means give the victims a proper compensation pay out (the current compensation package is not fit for purpose), but don't rush things so even more mistakes are made. After all it was both of your administrations that had both enabled Fujitsu to get away with this useless system called Horizon in the first place, and the sub postmasters have suffered enough from criminal injustice as it is.
Secondly.
There are certain executives from the Post Office and Fujitsu who need to be prosecuted, and anyone with inside knowledge of these crimes who was in government at the time should be held accountable as well. Will that happen?, things are moving in the right direction, but these people have powerful friends in the Establishment and the Prime Ministers cabinet office as well, so don't hold your breath. :O:

Pennsylvania couple left shocked after dog eats $4,000 in cash
A couple in Pennsylvania have brought a whole new meaning to the phrase "my dog ate my homework" after their pooch, Cecil, devoured $4,000 (£3,148) in cash.
The seven-year-old goldendoodle started to chow down the pile of $100 and $50 notes after his owners, Clayton and Carrie Law, withdrew the cash to reportedly pay gardeners.
Having left the money on the kitchen counter, Mr Law shouted for his wife after it was nabbed by Cecil, who they said had "never really done anything bad before".
"He was shouting, 'Cecil ate $4,000!'" Mrs Law told the Pittsburgh City Paper.
"I ran in, thinking I had to have heard him wrong, but when I saw the mess, there was no doubt," she said.
"I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Cecil had really done it."
The couple then documented the painstaking process of trying to salvage as much of the money as they could, from bits Cecil had either thrown up or had reappeared after being passed through him naturally.
Posting on Instagram on 14 December, Mrs Law said they had managed to tape together $3,550 (£2,700) of the cash so far.
"There we are at the utility sink washing this s***** money, yelling 'Yay! Yes! We got one!' It smelled so bad," Mrs Law told the local paper.
Fortunately, the couple were told by the bank that as long as the serial number on the notes was visible, it would take back the chewed money.
"I never thought I'd be able to say I've laundered money, but there is apparently a first time for everything," Mrs Law told The Washington Post.

Camera catches mouse-proud rodent tidying man's shed
A mouse-proud rodent has been caught on camera tidying up a man's shed.
75-year-old Rodney Holbrook, who lives in Powys, is a keen wildlife photographer.
But he got more than he bargained for when items in his shed were mysteriously put away at night.
"I've got a little box where I've got some nuts in that I can feed to the birds and I've got lots of other food in my bins and things," he told Sky News.
"One morning I went in early October and there were no nuts in there and I thought I put nuts in yesterday."
After the nuts disappeared on several occasions, some items started being put in the box.
"I had lots of bits of stuff I had on my bench all put in there and I thought I'm going to set up a night camera," he said.
"So I set that up and that's where I get these incredible videos of the mouse doing what it does."
The rodent - named Welsh Tidy Mouse - might not be a resident of the shed, according to Mr Holbrook, but he's there tidying "every night".
"I haven't found out how it's getting in so I don't think it's actually living in there. It could be," he added.
While the tidy mouse may be the cleanliness culprit, it's occasionally joined by some friends.
"It's only the one doing it, but I've had one video where I saw two on there, or three counting the one tidying up," Mr Holbrook added.
"He will eat the odd one or two nuts. I think what it's doing is piling things on top of it to hide them. This is what I think is happening, to hide the nuts from other mice or anything that might want to get to his stash."
Despite receiving advice about what Mr Holbrook's resident cleaner could tidy next, he is keen for the mouse to carry on as normal.
"I'm just leaving it as it is. People have said to me about putting things in to get some sort of funny videos," he said.
"But I just leave it naturally. Just naturally let whatever's going to happen happen."

Rishi Sunak gathers Cabinet to hammer out plan to clear Post Office scandal victims - as ministers hold talks with judges and warn Fujitsu it could face huge compensation bill
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12942047/Rishi-Sunak-ITV-Cabinet-Post-Office-judges-Fujitsu-compensation.html
Hahaha. Sunak's government are caught in the medias spotlights like rabbits in the night, after 13 years of ignoring the sub postmasters they are moving things along at breakneck speed, they'll do anything to get out of the spotlight even if they have to sacrifice some of their own to do it. :haha:
Those executives at the Post Office will feel the wrath of the government for dropping this mess in their lap, and a warning to Fujitsu too that they are in their sights as well. The IT firm behind the flawed Horizon software might end up facing a huge compensation bill if a public inquiry finds it was culpable.
Isn't it just wonderful what a simple TV drama can do for the victims, well, if it rights a lot of wrongs I'm all for it. As for those PO executives, maybe they'll have enough friends in high places to help them come out of this unscathed, and those who didn't have many friends are going to become the scapegoats, they accept the rewards of success and they know the price to pay of executive failure too.

Girl, 10, wins year's supply of crisps after campaigning to get Haggis flavour back on shelves
A 10-year-old girl has been given a year's supply of her favourite crisps after she campaigned to get the niche flavour back on store shelves.
Grace, from Edinburgh, decided to take matters into her own hands when she was unable to find her favourite haggis crisps in the shops.
The haggis and black pepper flavoured snack made by Taylors Snacks, formerly Mackie's Crisps, was pulled from shelves last year after the company decided to only make the crisps available during winter months.
Grace, feeling the absence of her favourite flavour, took matters into her own hands by writing a letter to the managing director of Taylors Snacks.
In her letter, Grace expressed not only her love for the crisps, but also her family's, and added: "I really hope it could become all year round."
"If you can thanks," she wrote, before warning crisps boss James Taylor: "If not I will be sad."
Her endearing words, along with a sad face to sign off, were enough to convince Mr Taylor to put the crisps back on sale for good.
Grace was also rewarded with a taxi full of haggis and black pepper crisps, and a ticket for a tour around the Taylors factory.
Grace's mother, Becky, said: "It's fantastic that the team at Taylors took the time and effort to respond and it really made all of our days.
"It also helps Grace see the power of communicating with creativity and care.
"Grace was the one who had the idea to write to James and to get such a wonderful response really validates and empowers her.
"These small things really can make a huge impact on a young child's life.
"We look forward to visiting the factory soon and learning how our favourite snacks are made."

Ynys Enlli: Remote Welsh island offers £11.44 an hour if you're prepared to live and work there
The owners of an "off-grid" Welsh island are looking for two wardens to live and work there.
The accommodation wardens on Bardsey Island (Ynys Enlli) off the coast of the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales will enjoy benefits including one boat trip to the mainland per month, according to the job advert.
Other benefits will include a shared food growing space and internet connection.
The island measuring 0.69 square miles has a population of 11 and is claimed to be the burial site of mythical wizard Merlin.
The Bardsey Island Trust is looking for joint applications from two individuals who are expected to live and work together.
Successful applicants will be paid £11.44 per hour, with their contract lasting from 1 March until 30 October.
The island, which has a "limited electricity" provided by solar panels, can run a light, fridge freezer and internet router.
The job description says there is "no indoor running hot water" and a "composting toilet" is located outside.
The UK's tallest square-towered lighthouse can be found on the island at 30m (98ft) tall and over 200 years old.
In 1979, the island was bought by the trust and is still under the charity's ownership.
Last year, the island became the first location in Europe to be given Dark Sky Sanctuary status.
The job description says the ability to speak both English and Welsh is compulsory, with a driving qualification also desirable.

'Frozen excrement' dropped from plane crashes through house roof
A Canadian woman has claimed a frozen lump of excrement from a plane passing overhead ripped through the roof of her mother’s house.
Stephanie Moore said she was woken up by a crashing sound and saw a huge hole in the ceiling in the hallway - less than 15ft from where she was sleeping.
The 36-year-old teacher had been staying with her mother overnight after returning from a trip to Cuba.
After the incident, she said she found pink insulation, drywall, ceiling material and shattered bits of wood on the hallway floor in a puddle of water.
In the morning, daylight could be seen shining through the hole which was around one metre in diameter and the crash had caused damage to the roof’s planking and shingles.
Ms Moore told CBC News: "At first I thought it was just damage to the ceiling. I couldn't tell it went right through the roof when I first saw it".
She said both the insurance appraiser and roof repairmen who visited the next day said it was the “strangest thing they had ever seen”.
The roofer who inspected the damage said there was no rotting wood in the roof and before the incident the outer shell of the house was solid.
They did not find any evidence that a tree or branch cause the damage and there was no ice or snow on the roof when it happened.
The roofer said it was mostly likely to have been "blue ice" - a term for frozen excrement that can accidentally leak away from planes mid flight, named for the colour of disinfectant used by sewage systems in commercial planes.
Blue ice has been known to hit homes and melt on impact leaving little evidence behind.
The only other thing that could cause that sort of damage would be a small meteor strike - but that would leave a rock or mineral in the debris.
A spokeswoman for Transport Canada said they were looking into the claim.
She said: "The department takes all reports of possible debris coming from aircraft very seriously. Every reported incident is investigated by Transport Canada officials".
Canadian Aviation Regulations forbid creating a hazard by dropping waste mid flight, she added.

Exploding toilet at a Dunkin’ store in Florida left a customer filthy and injured, lawsuit claims
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A customer has filed a negligence lawsuit against Dunkin’, claiming he was injured by an exploding toilet at one of the coffee chain’s locations in central Florida.
Paul Kerouac is seeking more than $100,000 in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in state court in Orlando, claiming he suffered “severe and long term injuries” following the explosion of a toilet in the men’s room of a Dunkin’ location in Winter Park, Florida, a year ago.
After the explosion left Kerouac covered in human feces, urine and debris, he walked out of the men’s room seeking help from workers and the store’s manager, according to the lawsuit. An employee told him that they were aware of the “problem with the toilet” since there had been previous incidents, the lawsuit says, without diving into further details about the explosion.
When contacted Thursday by email for more details on Kerouac’s injuries, his attorney, Scott Spradley, said he was tied up and couldn’t answer the questions until the following day. The Canton, Massachusetts-based company did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
The lawsuit says Kerouac suffered “bodily injury,” and he has required mental health care and counseling since the incident in January 2022.

Nude man nabbed by police after ‘cannonball’ plunge into giant aquarium at Bass Pro Shop in Alabama
LEEDS, Alabama (AP) — A man crashed his car outside a Bass Pro Shop in Alabama, stripped down to his birthday suit and plunged into the giant aquarium inside the store, police said.
The ordeal happened Thursday night in front of shocked shoppers in the town just outside Birmingham, Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said.
The 42-year-old Alabama man did a “cannonball” leap into the aquarium and then stood under a waterfall. He left the water to yell at two officers, then dove back into the aquarium, police said.
The man eventually climbed over the side of the aquarium and fell to the concrete floor below. Police then apprehended him, the news site Al.com reported.
He faces several charges including public lewdness, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
The man was in the water for about five minutes before officers arrived, Irwin said.

Andrew Griffith wasn't parachuted into this constituency by Tory HQ, no, no no, the constituents of Arundel and South Downs actually voted for this thick twat, and that begs the question, just how thick are these wealthy people down South.
Well, well, well, lets take a look at this area shall we, its a mostly rural constituency including the town of Arundel and villages within the South Downs national park boundaries or encircled by the park, ooooh that sounds pretty fancy.
Rural eh, there's probably no schools open, hospitals are probably closed as well, so, none of these halfwits can be sectioned for their own safety, but, I bet there are a lot of sheep farms down there.
Hehehe, I bet the sales of Wellington Boots are through the roof in that area, I've heard you can make a lucrative career out of sheep shagging you know, well, just look at their MP, it tells you everything you need to know, its no wonder that a lot of conservative politicians are a bunch of bleeding perverts. :haha:

Mum thinks she’s being followed around Leeds by a UFO
A mother has become convinced of extraterrestrial life after claiming a UFO has been hovering above her Leeds home.
Kay Thorpe said the alien object is reminiscent of the Tardis flown by Doctor Who and insists has been appearing in the morning and night above her house in the Yorkshire suburb Middleton for several years.
The 36-year-old said that photos taken by zooming in with her phone camera prove that the matter is not a star but rather an extraterrestrial existence.
‘Where I live, you don’t often see a lot of stars but this one particular star is above my house every night and every morning,’ the mother-of-three said.
‘And I kept looking at it thinking ‘that can’t be a star’ because it’s always there but it doesn’t flicker like a star.
‘It’s been there for years. It wasn’t twinkling and I thought what else could it be?
‘So I decided to take a photo on my phone but when you zoom in that far on your phone, it can become distorted.
‘But I managed to keep it quite still and get a clear photo. When I took the picture, I just saw that shape.’
Her photo, taken from her garden on December 16, shows a bright light and her social media feeds lit up with speculation as to what it could be.
‘My first thought was it could be some sort of extra terrestrial. I didn’t think it was a spaceship but when I saw the shape, I thought that’s not normal.
‘When I looked at it, I was freaked out. I thought ‘am I safe’? I thought, could it be the international space station.’
Ms Thorpe said that many of her friends have suggested it looks like a Tardis, although she is not a Doctor Who fan herself.
While she has shared excitement at the prospect of her ‘proof’ of otherworldly movements, she has also shared concern as to what this could mean for her house.
‘I don’t believe we’re alone,’ she added. ‘I think there’s something out there – I don’t think we’re the only species.
‘The thought has dawned on me that something could be looking down on us.
‘Because it’s been there for so many years I know I must be safe. Unless I’ve been abducted and my memory’s been wiped!
‘A couple of people said it’s heaven’s door and we’ve recently had a bereavement so I’d like to think it’s maybe that.’

Woman has hamster stuffed to look like a pole dancer with notes in its G-string
Pets are massively important parts of our lives, with many treating them as our own siblings or children.
When a beloved pet dies there are many ways to memorialise them, from having them cremated to getting a tattoo of them or keeping their collar.
One less common way of keeping our pets in our lives is through the art of taxidermy, which preserves and stuffs the animal.
But one pet owner has chosen a much less traditional pose for her beloved hamster.
Jess Porter-Langson, 27, was devastated when her Roborovski dwarf hamster, named Hammington, died last August after having him for three years.
She wanted to do ‘something special’ to immortalise him – so found a local taxidermy artist to turn Hammington, also known as Hammy, into a pole dancing stripper.
Jess’s ‘iconic’ pet is captured in all his glory, wearing a bright pink thong stuffed with dollar bills as he ‘hustles for money’, clinging onto a stripper pole.
She keeps the taxidermy piece, which cost her £175, next to her bed.

Dog DNA detectives trace owners not scooping the poop in Italian province
ROME, Jan 17 (Reuters) - An Italian province is turning to DNA tests to tackle the scourge of dog mess on the streets.
Once a dog DNA registration database is up and running, street cleaners and health officials in Bolzano will be able to collect abandoned poop, have it genetically tested and then trace the owners who will face fines of 50 to 500 euros ($54 to $540).
Any owner who refuses the DNA profiling for their dog will face fines of 292 to 1,048 euros.
The provincial government covering Bolzano city and surrounding towns in the picturesque Dolomites region is creating the database for the almost 40,000 dogs in the area, veterinary department director Paolo Zambotto said. About 10,000 have already been registered.
"Bolzano receives a few hundred complaints a year from citizens about improper management of public land. More than half are for dogs," he told Reuters.
"Law enforcement could only catch three or four of them because they have to go there and set up some kind of stakeout."
DNA registration will become compulsory from around late March. Owners will be expected to have blood tests for their dogs, in municipal dog shelters or vet clinics, at a cost ranging from 65 to over 100 euros.
He did not give an estimated cost for the project, with the detection and administration expenses expect to be covered from the fines.
Bolzano, a mountainous German-speaking province near Austria, has wide autonomy in making its rules. Zambotto said other Italian cities had been in touch to potentially replicate the law.
Tourists and non-residents are exempted from the regulation.

Escaped kangaroo captured after punching Canadian officer
A kangaroo that escaped its handlers during transport to a new home was captured on Monday east of Toronto after a weekend in the wild, but not before delivering a punch in the face to one of the police officers who brought her run to an end.
The female kangaroo hopped over her handlers late on Thursday during a rest stop at the Oshawa Zoo and Fun Farm in Ontario, the park's supervisor and head keeper, Cameron Preyde, told CBC.
Videos emerged, opens new tab on social media on Friday of the marsupial, who was born in captivity, running along roads in Oshawa, a town on Lake Ontario about 37 miles (60 km) east of Toronto.
Officers on patrol spotted the kangaroo at around 3 a.m. on Monday on a rural property in northern Oshawa, Staff Sergeant Chris Boileau told CBC Toronto.
They contacted the kangaroo's handlers and grabbed it by the tail, as instructed, he said. The kangaroo punched one of the officers in the face during the capture, Boileau said.
"It's something that he and his platoon mates will be remembering for the rest of their careers," he told CBC Toronto.
The kangaroo, which was en route to a zoo in Quebec, received medical treatment and will stay at the Oshawa Zoo for a few days of rest, Preyde said.
"We're going to keep her here for a little while longer, let her rest up and make sure she is safe," he said.

Clam makes comeback from extinction off shores of Croatia
PULA, Croatia Dec 8 (Reuters) - A huge clam that was on the verge of extinction has made a comeback, with a surge in numbers in waters off Croatia, marine biologists say.
The clam, known as the noble pen shell or pinna nobilis, started dying out as a deadly pathogen spread in parts of the Mediterranean around 2016.
Numbers plummeted across the region and, until recently, scientists in Croatia only knew of around 10 surviving in their corner of the Adriatic.

6-legged spaniel undergoes surgery to remove extra limbs and adjusts to life on 4 paws
LONDON (AP) — A spaniel born with six legs that was found abandoned in a supermarket parking lot is now like other dogs after having her extra limbs surgically removed.
Ariel, who was named for “The Little Mermaid” character because the additional appendage with two paws on the end looked like a flipper, ran through the grass outside a veterinary hospital Saturday as she adjusted to life on four legs.
“She is doing brilliantly,” said Vicki Black, director of the Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital, where she was operated on Thursday.
The dog, who had multiple birth defects, was found in the center of Pembroke, Wales, in September. Greenacres Rescue took her in and raised funds for her surgery.
Black said the hospital, which is part of the University of Bristol, had never seen a six-legged dog or performed such an operation.
“Ariel was a complicated little dog,” Black said. “We are a center committed to career-long learning and are proud to innovate and treat pets like Ariel.”
The extra legs extended from the right hindquarter and appeared to be of no use, dangling beside her wagging tail, as she walked a bit awkwardly in a video shot before the operation.
On Saturday as she was discharged, she took to the lawn outside the hospital with the determination of a bird dog, nose to the ground and pulling on her leash. Just like any other dog.

Deadly brain-attacking dolphin virus found in animal poo - and humans can catch it
Top boffins have found traces of a deadly disease in the poo of one of the world's most loved animals.
Expert researchers from the University of Hawaiʻi Health and Stranding Lab have announced that they managed to find traces of a disease called Fraser's Morbillivirus in the faeces of dolphins. The virus – which is a strain of human measles – has a significant impact on dolphins, and other marine animals, causing issues with breathing and the brain.
It is normally found in Fraser's dolphins, which are usually found in the Pacific Ocean, but are seen in the Indian and Atlantic oceans, too. And the experts are worried about the new findings leading to an outbreak in the disease in those areas which would have a “devastating” effect.
The discovery was made after they collected the poo from stranded dolphins, and found that it was present in the samples. They also found that they could even detect it in seawater – without having to extract poo from dolphins.
The report, published in Marine Mammal science stated: “We report on the successful detection of Fraser's dolphin Morbillivirus in the faeces of an infected animal where (the virus) was amplified . . . up to a simulated seawater dilution of 1:1,000. This demonstrates the potential for disease screening of wild cetacean faecal samples that could be used to study the spread of pathogens and serve as an important diagnostic tool to assess cetacean health.”
And Kristi West, lead author and an associate researcher explained: “This is the first time that a pathogen responsible for mass mortalities of dolphins and whales, and that affects multiple organ systems other than the digestive tract, has been demonstrated in the faeces of whales and dolphins.
“Morbilliviruses have been responsible for mass mortalities of dolphins and whales during outbreak events. This study recommends that permitted research vessels studying dolphins and whales collect faecal samples using flasks and nets to test for disease.”
Despite morbiliviruses being found in humans, there have been no cases of animal to human infection so far.

Mantas Sasnauskas, head of security research at Cybernews, told MailOnline the team are working to ensure that the tool includes all the records from this new breach.
Mr Sasnauskas says that more than 70 per cent of records leaked by the MOAB breach have already been registered on the tool.
Because the MOAB is a combination of historic breaches and new material, only around a third of the leaked data has not been previously released.
This means that the data leak checker will still probably show whether your data was included in this latest breach.
These online companies are not keeping your data safe and they should be punished for being so lackadaisical with your information, what ever fines they get (if any) is clearly not enough, its time they were given a smack in the mouth instead of a slap on the wrist.
Your personal data was found in the following data leaks: Twcenter.net, Exploit.in, Collection #4, Anti Public Combo List, Collection #2, Collection #1, Breach Compilation
It was detected 7 times in leaked databases
Twcenter.net was at least 10 years ago so that's an historical breach, only other concern would be Adobe and even then it was back in 2019, I bought one thing and haven't been on it since. No twitter, Facebook, Instagram or any other Social Media sites either.

A soccer fan plucked from the crowd to officiate an FA Cup match couldn’t cheer when his team scored
A fan of English soccer club Wolverhampton was unable to celebrate his team’s late winner in an FA Cup replay — because he’d been plucked from the crowd to stand in as a match official.
Ross Bennett attended the Wolves-Brentford game on Tuesday with his 11-year-old son and volunteered to fill in as the fourth official in the technical area near the dugouts following an injury to one of the assistant referees in extra time.
Bennett, a qualified referee at youth level, said he was given a “crash course” on how to work the substitutes’ board and dealt with questions from members of the Brentford staff in a tense end to the match at Molineux.
The hardest part of his new job might have been when Matheus Cunha converted the penalty that ultimately sealed a 3-2 win for Wolves and an eagerly anticipated fourth-round match against local rival West Bromwich Albion.
“I was just gutted that I couldn’t celebrate our goal,” Bennett told the BBC. “I had to stay neutral.
“Inside I’m screaming, thinking, ‘I’m off to the Hawthorns in less than two weeks.’ I thought, ‘I’m the only Wolves fan in here not celebrating.’”
Bennett had to be up early for work on Wednesday but still spent time in the referees’ room after the match.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing and it’s never going to come about again,” he said, adding: “It still doesn’t feel real that it happened.”

Man who spent £12,000 turning himself into a dog is 'sad' at fetish 'misconception'
A man who forked out £12,000 to transform himself into a dog has opened up about being "sad" about the "misconception" around him becoming a dog.
It's hard to not love dogs, but one man loves them so much he decided to make himself into a huge furry pooch. Toco, from Japan has spent a staggering two million Yen on a human-sized collie costume so he could look like his favourite breed of canine and fulfil his lifelong ambition.
However Toco has shared the reality behind his journey, admitting he gets upset when trolls judge him. He previously told The Mirror that he feared 'coming out' in real life because of the reaction he gets and said: "I rarely tell my friends because I am afraid they will think I am weird. My friends and family seemed very surprised to learn I became an animal.
"Since childhood, I have had this unspecific fantasy of becoming an animal. I wonder whether it was a desire for transformation," he added. Despite forking out thousands of pounds on a hyperrealistic collie costume, Toco still struggles with people's perceptions of his hobby.
When asked about the negative remarks he gets around fetish, Toco told The New York Post: "I'm just sad that people can think that. I love animals and enjoy play-acting like a collie. This is my hobby, so I will carry on. It makes me happy and other people happy, too."
He regularly shares 'day in the life' videos on his YouTube channel as he learns how to eat, play and train like a pooch - with thousands of viewers watching. In one video titled "I want to be an animal" Tocco can be seen on a walk along the street, sniffing other dogs in the park as well as having a roll around on the floor.
Channeling his canine alter-ego is an ongoing process for Tocco, as he enjoys "doing things that only dogs do" as it makes him feel like a real pet. He also enjoys tummy rubs and mimicks the movements of a collie.
Toco eats fake dog food, lays in a hammock and even has his own cage. However it's the human activities where he still needs his hands that prove to be more of a struggle, as his paws get in his way.

Person who ate too much kebab called for ambulance, service in Wales reveals
A person called for an ambulance after eating too much kebab, a service has revealed.
Further 999 calls were made in Wales because someone had misplaced their false teeth, and another had their hand stuck in a letterbox.
A lost voice and a ring stuck on a finger prompted other inappropriate calls to the Welsh Ambulance Service.
The service had 414,149 calls last year and of those, 68,416 were not a life-or-death emergency, it said.
That's an average of 188 calls a day which has prompted the trust to remind people only to dial 999 if someone is seriously ill or injured.
Andy Swinburn, executive director of paramedicine, said "inappropriate calls put additional strain on an already over-stretched service".
"Our plea to the public is to apply your common sense - most people know the difference between a real emergency and something that is uncomfortable, painful or irritating but not life-threatening," he said.
Executive director of operations, Lee Brooks, said the service needed the public "to take some ownership and accountability for their health and wellbeing" and that NHS services were "stretched beyond measure".

In wintry Minnesota, there’s a belief that every snowplow deserves a name
Snowplows are essential to enduring winter in Minnesota, so maybe it’s not surprising that every year thousands of people vote on names for the giant machines that clear the state’s roads, such as Plowy McPlowFace and Darth Blader.
The often-icy state began naming its 800 plows in 2020 and is expected to announce winners of its 2023-2024 Name a Snowplow contest early next week, adding eight selections to more than three dozen names that already grace trucks scraping snow off Minnesota highways.
“We definitely know snow in Minnesota, and anyone who lives up here knows the challenges of those conditions and the challenges of trying to keep roads safe for folks to travel during the winter,” said Anne Meyer, a spokesperson for the Minnesota Department of Transportation, which hosts the contest.
The agency knew officials in Scotland had named snowplows for years and decided a similar effort in Minnesota might draw attention to their winter work, Meyer said.
The response in the first year of the contest was overwhelming, with about 24,000 submissions and 122,000 votes cast. Participation has dropped over the years but remains strong, with about 8,000 submissions for the latest contest.
Besides Plowy McPlowFace and Darth Blader, winners over the years include Blizzard of Oz, Scoop Dogg and Han Snolo. Top names often have Minnesota connections. F. Salt Fitzgerald was a nod to St. Paul-born author F. Scott Fitzgerald, while The Truck Formerly Known As Plow recognized musician Prince, who for a time famously declined to be recognized by a spoken name.
The response in Minnesota has prompted states and cities across the country to hold similar contests to name snowplows, from Alaska and California to Ohio and Massachusetts.
New Mexico launched its first name-a-snowplow contest this winter, drawing more than 1,500 submissions and 23,000 votes to name 12 of the state’s 400 plows. Winners included Sleetwood Mac, Mr. Snow it All and Billy the Skid, acknowledging the New Mexico roots of the gunslinger Billy the Kid.
“There’s a natural infatuation with (snowplows),” said Kristine Bustos-Mihelcic, a spokesperson for the New Mexico Department of Transportation. “They’re big, huge trucks. They look great on the road, and they are such a visual statement to the core of DOT, which is helping people get to their destination safely.”
Lincoln, Nebraska, also held its first snowplow-naming contest this year. More than 2,300 people voted to name eight city plows, with Clearopathra taking honors as the top selection.
“We hope this helps develop a closer relationship with people, and we can show them that we are human, too,” said Erika Hill, a spokesperson for Lincoln’s Transportation and Utilities department. “We’re laughing along with them about some of these great names.”
Plowy McPlowFace is a favorite in many of the contests, in part because it harkens back to a rejected online vote in 2016 to name a British polar research vessel Boaty McBoatface. Although that choice garnered more than three times the votes of its closest competitor, officials opted to name the ship after naturalist Sir David Attenborough.
Minnesota plans to keep its contest going in coming years and Meyer noted each plow keeps its name, which is displayed along the side of the vehicle.
“We’ve got 800 snowplows statewide for the Minnesota Department of Transportation, so we have a lot of snowplows to name,” Meyer said.

Bloke finds live crocodile gecko in pack of Asda chillies and tries to keep it as a pet
A dad-of-three was left gobsmacked on discovering a surprise interloper hiding in his bag of chillies.
Kevin Cuthbert from Conwy, North Wales, had bought the red-hot Scotch bonnet chillies from the Asda Superstore in Llandudno a week earlier. Only one chilli remained by the time the hitchhiking gecko was discovered when it fell from the bag and onto the kitchen work top and began wriggling about.
Although only slightly longer than an inch (2.5cm), the 53-year-old was determined to keep the tiny critter he named Scotty alive, reports North Wales Live.
Kevin popped the reptile in an ice cream tub lined with stones and ordered a delivery of crickets for food.
“When I found the gecko, it was missing its tail - it must have shed it when it was being packed,” he said.
“After a couple of days I noticed it was growing back, so I thought there was a chance it might survive."
Inquiries at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, Colwyn Bay, revealed the creature to be a Crocodile Gecko, also known as a Moorish Gecko. Typically they are found in North Africa and Mediterranean countries. This chimed with place-of-origin labelling on the chillies, which were imported from Spain.
“I went back to the store to tell them what I’d found,” said Kevin. “They couldn’t believe it, so I showed them a photo. They told me to bring in it and they’ll send it to the head office. I said I couldn’t do that, it’s still alive!”
Calling on help from other reptile keepers, Kevin placed Scotty’s tub on a tea towel draped over a radiator at his Llandudno home, to keep it warm, however further inquiries to Conwy Council’s environmental health team produced worrying news.
“I learned that geckos are big carriers of salmonella and other bacteria,” he said. “So I immediately cleared out the fridge and scrubbed it clean. From then on, I wore gloves when moving Scotty’s tub.
“It was worrying I’d already used the other chillies to make savoury rice for the boys. I place the chillis in whole with the rice and let the goodness but not the spiciness soak into the rice, then remove the chillis. I’d not long recovered from food poisoning and I didn’t want them to go through the same thing.”
Kevin realised the tub temperature wasn't high enough when Scotty stopped going for his cricket suppers, so he went shopping for a specialist reptile heat bulb. By the time he arrived back, Scotty had died, 10 days after being released from the chilli bag. “He was stiff as a board,” said Kevin. “Apparently you have to provide temperatures of 80F-90F (28C-32C).”
Asda has said it has “robust” washing and quality controls for fresh fruit and vegetables. The retailer said that “very occasionally, hitchhikers may make their way onto our produce”.
The company has since written to Kevin. As a goodwill gesture, he’s been offered £50 for lost fridge contents and the cost of buying crickets and a heat bulb.

Aeromexico passenger opens plane door and walks on wing
A man has been arrested in Mexico after opening an aeroplane's emergency door and walking on to the wing.
The man took action after the Guatemala City-bound plane had been stuck for hours on the tarmac without air conditioning or water for passengers.
Mexico International Airport said no harm had been caused, but that the passenger had been handed to police.
Fellow passengers, however, have written a joint statement, saying the man had everyone's support.
The incident occurred last Thursday, at around 11:30 - about three hours after the Aeromexico flight had been scheduled to take-off from Mexico City.
The delay was caused by a maintenance issue, an incident report said.
It went on to explain that a change of plane had become necessary after the unidentified passenger's unilateral move.
It is not clear if the man remains in custody - or what charges he may face.
Irate passengers, however, saw the incident in a different light.
"All passengers on the flight from CDMX [Mexico City] to Guatemala [flight] AM 0672 state that the passenger on board who opened the emergency window was for the protection of everyone, with the support of everyone, since the delay and lack of air created dangerous conditions for the health of the passengers," the handwritten note by fellow passengers reads.
"He saved our lives," they wrote - and added their names and signatures to the note distributed on social media.

Italian province orders DNA tests for all dogs to trace and fine owners in poo crackdown
Dog owners in an Italian province are being forced to provide a sample of their pets' DNA as officials try to tackle the scourge of dog mess on the streets.
The provincial government of Bolzano city and surrounding towns in the picturesque Dolomites region is setting up a database for the almost 40,000 dogs in the area, veterinary department director Paolo Zambotto said.
Around 10,000 have already been registered and, once up and running, the plan means abandoned poop can be genetically tested and traced back to a dog, whose owner could be fined anywhere between 50 and 500 euros (£42-£430).
Any owners refusing to comply could be fined between 292 and 1,048 euros (£250-£900).
Mr Zambotto said: "Bolzano receives a few hundred complaints a year from citizens about improper management of public land. More than half are for dogs.
"Law enforcement could only catch three or four of them because they have to go there and set up some kind of stakeout."
DNA registration will become compulsory from around late March.
Owners will be expected to have blood tests for their dogs, in municipal dog shelters or vet clinics, at a cost ranging from 65 to more than 100 euros (£56-£86).
The cost of implementing the tests will come out the income from fines, under the scheme.
Bolzano, a mountainous province near Austria, has wide autonomy in making its rules.
Mr Zambotto said other Italian cities had been in touch to potentially replicate the law, which doesn't apply to tourists and non-residents.

BILLIONAIRE IN COURT Michelle Mone’s husband Doug Barrowman appears in Spanish court on tax charges as he faces more than 5 years in jail
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/25598567/michelle-mone-husband-doug-barrowman-court-tax-charges/
These newspaper reporters talk a load of sensationalist nonsense, currants like Barrowman don't go to prison, only the little people like us do that, no, he will pay a huge fine and reimburse the taxman and that will be that.
The only people who will suffer are the wealthy people he conned into joining his nefarious tax schemes in the first place, perhaps there's a message there for them, yep, keep away from these sharks, pay your correct tax and you won't have the taxman hammering on your door threatening to take every penny that you own.
But, as we know, greed knows no bounds, we've all seen it before, when they've got those floating money signs in front of there eyes there's no talking sense to them anymore.

DPD customer service chatbot swears and calls company 'worst delivery firm'
DPD has disabled its artificial intelligence (AI) online chatbot after a customer was able to make the bot swear and write a poem criticising the parcel delivery company.
Ashley Beauchamp, 30, was trying to track down a missing parcel when he said he was going "round and round in circles" trying to get any sort of information from the company's chatbot.
"It couldn't give me any information about the parcel, it couldn't pass me on to a human, and it couldn't give me the number of their call centre. It didn't seem to be able to do anything useful," Mr Beauchamp, from London, told Sky News.
"I was getting so frustrated at all the things it couldn't do that I tried to find out what it actually could do - and that's when the chaos started."
The classical musician first asked the bot to tell him a joke, and soon, with minimal prompts, it was happily writing poems about DPD's "unreliable" service.
"After a few more prompts it was happy to swear, too," Mr Beauchamp said.
Sharing the wacky conversation on X, Mr Beauchamp said the bot replies to one message saying: "******* yeah! I'll do my best to be as helpful as possible, even if it means swearing."
In another part of the exchange, the bot calls itself a "useless chatbot that can't help you".
The online post quickly went viral, gaining more than 15,000 likes and one million views in 24 hours.
DPD told Sky News that the customer service chatbot had suffered from an "error" after a system update and it has now been disabled.
"We are aware of this and can confirm that it is from a customer service chatbot. In addition to human customer service, we have operated an AI element within the chat successfully for a number of years," the company said in a statement.
"An error occurred after a system update yesterday. The AI element was immediately disabled and is currently being updated."
When asked what he made of the event, Mr Beauchamp said it was all "very amusing" but AI chatbots need to work on improving lives, not impacting them.
"I think it's really struck a chord with people," he said on Friday.
"These chatbots are supposed to improve our lives, but so often when poorly implemented it just leads to a more frustrating, impersonal experience for the user.
"As a musician, I'm painfully aware of the impact that machine learning and AI will have on my industry - and on the arts in general. I think it is so important that these tools are regulated effectively and are used to improve our lives, not impact negatively on them."
Mr Beauchamp said DPD has not contacted him personally and there is "still no sign" of his missing parcel.

Rishi Sunak's pharmacy 'revolution' to free up 10million GP appointments per year: Major NHS shake-up gives chemists power to dole out drugs for seven minor ailments

I can't see this working without severe disruption to the rest of the pharmacy, it currently takes 6 days to get a repeat prescription sorted out at the Chemists. With the pharmacist looking into sore throats and earholes that prescription could take even longer, and if it stays the same, does that mean the entire staff have been tossing it off since this Covid epidemic was used as the biggest excuse not to work that you've ever heard of..... Russia Fires Genetics Institute Chief Who Claimed Humans Lived 900 Years
MOSCOW (AP) — Russia’s science and higher education ministry has dismissed the head of a prestigious genetics institute who sparked controversy by contending that humans once lived for centuries and that the shorter lives of modern humans are due to their ancestors’ sins, state news agency RIA-Novosti said Thursday.
Although the report did not give a reason for the firing of Alexander Kudryavtsev, the influential Russian Orthodox Church called it religious discrimination.
Kudryavtsev, who headed the Russian Academy of Science’s Vavilov Institute of General Genetics, made a presentation at a conference in 2023 in which he said people had lived for some 900 years prior to the era of the Biblical Flood and that “original, ancestral and personal sins” caused genetic diseases that shortened lifespans.
He also claimed that children “up to the seventh generation are responsible for the sins of their fathers,” according to the Russian news website Meduza.
The head of the Russian church’s commission on family issues, Fyodor Lukyanov, said Kudryavtsev’s dismissal “for religious beliefs and statements in accordance with these beliefs violates the ethics of the scientific community,” RIA-Novosti said.
“We have already gone through Soviet times, when genetics was long considered a pseudoscience,” Lukyanov said. The Soviet Union under Josef Stalin suppressed conventional genetics in favor of the theories of Trofim Lysenko, who contended that acquired characteristics could be inherited by offspring.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13024033/Britains-stubborn-neighbours-Central-London-battled-19th-Century-high-rise-complex-council-parklet.html
I've heard that they call this the "March of Progress", Grade II listed terraced houses are being gutted from the inside, as new wealthy residents strip out their historic character in favour of cinema rooms and huge basements.
What are the local council doing about it?, Nothing as usual, they're too busy counting the cash inside of their brown envelopes, Corruption however small is still called Corruption and that's what's happening here. The residents don't stand a bleeding chance when there's money to be made, so don't bother wasting your money on fighting this as you're not going to win, the Council will make sure of that.
If this is what local Labour Councillors are doing, just wait until a Labour Government get in power, the residents probably voted for these councillors so I have little sympathy for them, that Labour Party knife went in your back so fast that you didn't feel it did you?, I can assure you that you'll feel the next one.

Pigeon suspected of being Chinese spy released by police in India after being detained for eight months
A pigeon accused of being a Chinese spy has been cleared by police and released back into the wild.
The bird was detained by officers after it was captured in May last year near a port in Mumbai, news agency Press Trust of India reported.
It was found with two rings tied to its legs featuring words that appeared to be Chinese.
Detectives suspected the pigeon was involved in espionage and took it in, before later sending it to Mumbai's Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals.
However, after eight months in captivity, it emerged that the creature was an open-water racing bird from Taiwan which had escaped and flown to India.
Police then approved the bird's transfer to the Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where doctors set free the falsely accused avian on Tuesday.

Tennis star explains 'special relationship' with Melbourne tree, saying 'I liked its roots and its trunks'
World tennis number one Novak Djokovic has revealed he has a "special relationship" with a tree in Melbourne, which helps him meditate and ground himself during the Australian Open.
Djokovic, 36, speaking after beating Australia's Alexei Popyrin in four sets in the Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday night, said he'd been visiting the tree for about 15 years.
Asked by a journalist afterwards about being spotted returning to one specific tree at Melbourne's botanical gardens, Djokovic said: "There's one particular tree that I've been having [a] special relationship with, so to say, in the last 15 years."
As for what drew him him to it, he said: "I got connected with that tree. I just liked it. I liked its roots and the trunks and branches and everything. So I started climbing it years ago. That's it. I just have a connection.
"I love every corner of [the] botanical gardens. I think it's [an] incredible treasure for Melbourne to have such a park and nature in the middle of the city."
Djokovic refused to identify which particular tree it was, though, saying: "I cannot reveal which one, I'll try to keep it discreet for myself when I'm there to have my own time."
Djokovic has posted pictures of himself around trees on social media, including one where he was barefoot standing in a tree in London in 2018.

I don't know where this is gonna end up, "In The Supreme Court?", but, if ever there was a shot across the bows for parents then this court case is it.
All those children who've had troubled childhoods might start getting some much needed help now, I'll not hold my breath though as most of these kids will be too far gone already.
It'll probably change nothing as some of these parents were brought up in similar conditions, probably not as bad as this kid but, enough to send the weaker ones over the edge.
Parents eh, if you have them at least do the decent thing and bring them up right.

Man builds Eiffel Tower model with 700,000 matchsticks over eight years only to have world record rejected
A Frenchman who built a model of the Eiffel Tower using over 700,000 matchsticks says he has had his efforts rejected by Guinness World Records.
Richard Plaud, 47, said he spent eight years and 4,200 hours assembling 706,900 matches to build the world's tallest structure made of matches, measured at 7.19m (23.6ft).
It would have been enough to beat the record that's been held by Lebanese model maker Toufic Daher since 2009, who used six million matches to create an Eiffel Tower replica measuring at 6.53m (21.4ft).
But after completing his creation on 27 December, Mr Plaud said he submitted an application to Guinness World Records only for it to be rejected without even being looked at.
In a scathing social media post, Mr Plaud said the decision was a "great disappointment" and relayed the record company's reasons for rejecting his work.
He said it was because the structure must be built from matches that are available to the public for purchase and don't have flammable red tips - and they must "not be cut, disassembled or deformed to the point where they are no longer recognised" as matches.

Thong-wearing protesters bare their bums in opposition to calls for G-string ban
Throngs of thong-wearing protesters bared their bums on Australia's Gold Coast as they showed their opposition to calls for a ban on G-string bikini bottoms.
The demonstration, named "Free The Peach", began at Kurrawa Beach at 6am local time on Friday (8pm Thursday UK time), according to reports in Australia.
Dozens of locals wore their skimpiest swimwear as they fought for their right to wear what they want on the beach.
They were rallying against remarks made by Ian Grace, a former Gold Coast Volunteer Of The Year award winner, who said women and girls who wore G-strings were "cheapening themselves".
Mr Grace first made his concerns known in a letter to Tom Tate, mayor of Gold Coast, earlier this month saying he had become distracted by women wearing triangle bikinis on the beach, Australian news site news.com.au reports.
He wrote: "One young lady in particular was walking on the footpath on the main road and had the tiniest triangle in front and was as close to naked as anyone could be.
"You could see she was looking almost defiantly at people as they approached, almost daring them to say something. There's something very wrong here."
"While any man would enjoy 'the view', I believe women are very much demeaning and cheapening themselves, portraying themselves as sex objects, then decrying it when men see them that way."
Rebecca Pask, owner of the Barr Body Swim swimwear company, told the Australian breakfast show Today: "I think the conversation is so much wider.
"Children and our young girls in society, we do need to teach them what's appropriate and what's not but that starts in the home.
"A bikini blanket ban was never going to be the solution. Never. Not on the Gold Coast."

Floating sauna guests wearing only towels rescue duo after car plunges into Oslo fjord
Guests on board a floating sauna helped rescue two people after their car plunged off a quay into a fjord in Oslo.
The vehicle shot into the water at speed on Thursday near the Akershusstranda, an area where ships dock close to the Norwegian capital's medieval fortress and castle.
A witness told Norway's VG newspaper that the car was stationary before it suddenly accelerated and ended up in the water.
The driver is reported to have hit the accelerator by mistake.
As the car sank, the motorist and their passenger climbed onto its roof - as the sauna raft sped over to help.
The captain of the vessel, Nicholay Nordahl, told VG he "gave full throttle toward the people who came climbing out of the car" and reached them just as the vehicle went under.
A couple of sauna guests, said to have only been wearing towels, then helped pull them aboard.
"With good help from two of the guests, we got them up. They warmed up [afterwards] in the sauna," Mr Nordahl added.

Baby dies after mother mistakenly put her in oven
A baby died after her mother mistakenly put her down for a nap in the oven, a US prosecutor has said.
Mariah Thomas of Kansas City, Missouri, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Police responded to a report of an infant not breathing on Friday afternoon.
A probable cause statement said responders found the child with apparent burns.
The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.
The statement said responders were told by a witness the mother "put the child down for a nap and accidentally placed her in the oven instead of the crib".
It did not explain how that mistake was made.
"We acknowledge the gruesome nature of this tragedy and our hearts are weighted by the loss of this precious life," Jackson County prosecuting attorney Jean Peters Baker said in a statement.

Coastguard forced to email BBC for help as ship blocks emergency channel for 12 hours by listening to Radio 4
A Coastguard emergency channel was blocked by a ship that was accidentally playing BBC Radio 4 over it.
A sailor afloat somewhere near the Shetland islands accidently sent the Radio 4 station onto the maritime emergency channel all day.
The incident forced the coastguard in Shetland, one of 300 rescue teams around the UK to email the BBC for help.
It was only flagged up after a shift change where the team leader, nicknamed Laura K realised before changing over.
Speaking to the BBC’s Broadcasting House programme on Sunday, it was part of the Coastguard’s policy that if a radio station can be heard over the channel, the broadcaster can be contacted. They can be asked to broadcast a safety message to get all vessels in the area to check their sets.
The safety message, as broadcast on February 5, said: "This is an important safety-related message on behalf of His Majesty’s Coastguard. This radio message is being transmitted over VHF channel 16 by a vessel with an open mic.
"This is blocking all distress, urgency and safety broadcasts. All vessels in the vicinity of south east Shetland are requested to check their radios and ensure that the microphone transmit button is not being inadvertently held open."
Radio 4 eventually stopped being played over the emergency channel at 7pm the same day.
Luckily, the team leader added that there had been no "incidents" during the 12-hour period the channel was blocked.

Sir Winston Churchill's false teeth 'snapped up' for £18,000 at auction
Gold-mounted false teeth that Sir Winston Churchill wore as he made his "we shall fight them on the beaches" speech and other famous addresses, have been "snapped up" at auction for £18,000.
The set of six upper teeth were fashioned to preserve Britain's wartime prime minister's famous natural lisp.
Dentures were so important to him, he carried two sets with him at all times.
The Cotswold Auction Company, who handled the sale, said the teeth were "snapped up" for £18,000, more than double the £8,000 guide price.
Churchill, who guided Britain through the Second World War after replacing Neville Chamberlain as prime minister in 1940, suffered from dental problems most of his life and lost several teeth during his 20s.
It is believed up to four sets of teeth were made for him, with at least one buried with him, the Guardian said.
The auctioned set was made for him when he was 65 at the beginning of the conflict.

On Valentine's Day, couple married for 63 years reveal surprising secret to a long-lasting relationship

You might think staying affectionate, good communication and compromises would be high on the list.
But one husband and wife who have been married for 63 years say the real answer is much more delicious.
Josephine and Aubrey Langley - who are 90 and 91 - met in 1958 when they foxtrotted at the Mostyn Dance Hall in north Wales.
And according to Mrs Langley, there's one thing that's key to a long-lasting relationship: "A husband that knows how to barbecue and make an exceptionally good gin and tonic."
Mr Langley added that a "good sense of humour" matters - after all, laughter can be just the tonic, too.

Tooth fairy gifts children $100 bills and designer jewellery
Some children receive $100 bills and designer jewellery under their pillows as the tooth fairy has become more generous worldwide.
The US national average for a tooth fairy gift has risen from under $2 in 2001 to more than $6 in 2023, according to polling by Delta Dental, but some parents have revealed to The Wall Street Journal that they give even more extravagant gifts to their children.
Mark Burhenne, a former dentist who runs the AsktheDentist.com website, said that some children receive "cash, a video game, sometimes an iPhone" which he puts down to parents competing with each other.
Chidera Nig, who is from the UK, gave her daughter £60, a letter, a silver fairy necklace and a Louis Vuitton bracelet.
Ms Nig's husband bought the designer piece when their daughter was born, and she said it felt like the correct time to gift it.
"That was her first baby tooth that she lost, and the process was uncomfortable for her, so we decided to give her the extra tooth fairy experience," Ms Nig told the US publication.
"Childhood goes by so fast and we believe in cherishing every moment, celebrating milestones and creating long-lasting memories."
But generous gifts from the tooth fairy can lead to children comparing what they found under their pillows.
Natasha Evans from Cheshire said she gave her daughter three one-pound coins and two chocolate coins to share with her sister when she lost her first tooth.

But when daughter Rae told her classmates about her gifts, Ms Evans said: "I didn't think about how that would unfold.
"The others were like, hang on - the tooth fairy didn't bring us chocolate coins!"

Why dogs may wag their tails so much - according to experts
Researchers have put forward two possible reasons why dogs wag their tails.
Four experts came together to write a paper in Biology Letters on the enigma that is tail wagging, because while owners often gauge their pet's mood by how fast a tail's going, very little is known about why it happens.
Dr Taylor Hersh, from the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in the Netherlands, and her co-authors looked at more than 100 studies on why dogs wag their tails to come up with two hypotheses.
Both suggestions relate to how dogs have been domesticated and bred by humans for tens of thousands of years, slowly developing more tail-wagging tendencies than other types of canines.
One of the theories, which they call "domesticated rhythmic wagging", details how humans intentionally selected dogs for breeding who wagged their tails more frequently than others, simply because we like rhythmic sequences.
"Cognitive neuroscience shows that human brains prefer rhythmic stimuli, which trigger pleasurable responses and engage brain networks that are part of the reward system," the paper states.
Humans either consciously or unconsciously made dogs this way because of how our brains are wired when it comes to appreciating rhythms, the experts suggest.
The paper states that this might explain why dogs wag their tails so often when interacting with humans.

US man sues Powerball lottery after apparent $340m jackpot win turns out to be a 'mistake'
A US man who thought he'd won $340m (£270m) on a lottery is suing the organisers and a website which published his numbers, it has said, by mistake.
John Cheeks alleged he saw his numbers on the DC Lottery website on 8 January 2023, after buying a ticket for the Powerball draw held the day before.
In his legal action, he has claimed his chosen numbers - a mix of family birthdays and other numbers of personal significance - were online for three days.
Mr Cheeks told NBC4 Washington, an affiliate of Sky News' US partner NBC News, he "got a little excited, but I didn't shout, I didn't scream.
"I just politely called a friend. I took a picture as he recommended, and that was it. I went to sleep.
"I'm not a regular, except for when the jackpot goes up," he said.
But the numbers posted on the website were not those pulled out in the draw, because, according to Mr Cheeks' case, a lottery contractor, Washington-based Taoti Enterprises, accidentally posted the wrong numbers - that it was a "mistake."
In his lawsuit, Mr Cheeks said when he tried to claim on the ticket, it was rejected, and he met another brick wall at the Washington office of lottery and gaming prize centre.
He said an employee told him the ticket was "no good" and he should "just throw it in the trash can", adding: "You're not going to get paid. There's a trash can right there."
Mr Cheeks put the ticket in a safe deposit box, instead, he said, and contacted a lawyer.
Mr Cheeks' lawyer, Richard Evans, said: "They have said that one of their contractors made a mistake. I haven't seen the evidence to support that yet.
"Even if a mistake was made, the question becomes: What do you do about that?
"There is a precedent for this, a similar case that happened in Iowa, where a mistake was admitted to by a contractor and they paid the winnings out."

EXCLUSIVE 'It's like we're in 1930s Germany': Jewish Londoner fears his family is 'a target' after his five-month-old's birth certificate was returned TORN with birthplace of Israel scribbled out after he sent off for UK passport, sparking 'urgent' investigation
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13101837/Jewish-father-reveals-feels-family-target-birth-certificate-returned-ripped-birthplace-Israel-scribbled-out.html
People are too quick to compare something like this situation to the Dark Days of 1930s Germany, but, I can see where they're coming from, its the little things like this that go unpunished that will lead to even bigger things that can, and will, all become the norm.
Dark Days on the horizon then?, if this twat and all others of their type are not dealt with, then yes, it will only encourage them to do the same or to do even worse.
If this lowlife bastard is caught and I do say "If" they should be fired and never allowed to work for any government affiliated businesses again, but, would they want to investigate it in the first place?, they might uncover some uncomfortable truths. Yes, white British people coerced into thinking like a migrant, lets not forget that, until a certain set of migrants came to our shores, no one gave a toss if they were a Jew or bleeding Greek.
I'm not saying everyone of them are Racists, but from my dealings with them over the years, what they say to you in public is not what they're saying in private.
You wouldn't turn your back on a poisonous snake would you?, so why would you do it with a human?.

The Magic Roundabout
When a government want to bury something that stinks to high heaven they send it round and round the magic roundabout, from one department to the next it goes, never stopping on its often fateful mysterious journey through the whitewash machine of Whitehall, until miraculously it finally comes to a stop outside a ministers door.
With a loud thud it lands upon his desk, Squeaky clean as it hums and throbs on this cold grey morn, bright rays of light shine forth as the room sets afire with its shimmering glow. "Upon My Soul" he whispered, what on earth could that be, trembling fingers or not, nothing more will beat this cold grey morn.
"Can It Be" says he, "Oh Please Lord Let It Be", Oh Yes, Yes, Yes he screams as he spies the text inside, from angry red he first espied it, to the warm flowing green of the clean, a thousand virgins I do owe them and, some honours high will favour me, nothing less than lordly ermine, it will be for me.
The End.
Epilogue
The Sub Postmasters will get their compensation, not all of them of course, their will be those who don't make it to the end, they will never see their reputations and their honour re-instated again, do any government care, no, of course not, they don't give a **** about that.
The Executives at Fujitsu and the Post Office will be whitewashed clean as usual, none of them will be held responsible for the lives that they've devastated, manilla envelopes come to the rescue again. :O:

Highland Games trophy missing for 90 years returns home to Scotland
A Highland Games trophy missing for almost 90 years has returned home to Scotland.
The Rose Bowl silverware was traditionally awarded to the top-performing athlete at the Cabrach Picnic and Games in Moray.
The event - once a staple of the Highland Games calendar - ran annually from 1877 to 1935. It was revived in 2022 by The Cabrach Trust following an 87-year hiatus, but without the trophy.
Following a public appeal last summer, the silverware was eventually tracked down 585 miles away in Axminster, Devon.
Adrian Taylor found the Rose Bowl in his house during a clear out and discovered the trust was seeking its safe return after Googling to find out more about the trophy.
The 73-year-old said: "My grandfather Charles Taylor was the last winner of the Rose Bowl.
"He was a brilliant athlete as well as a fine musician, being particularly talented in the bagpipes.
"Though it's been nice to have the silverware in the family for the past few decades, it is fitting that, with the return of The Cabrach Picnic and Games two years ago, it returns home."
The Rose Bowl was gifted to the community in 1926 by John Harper, a native of upper Cabrach and a high-ranking officer in the Hong Kong police force.
The Cabrach Trust said Charles Taylor claimed the prize in its first year but lost out in 1927. He went on to reclaim the trophy in consecutive years to be awarded the bowl outright.
A previous search traced the silverware to Coventry in the possession of Charles' eldest son, Ron. However, it was not until Adrian got in touch that the mystery unravelled.
The Rose Bowl is now once again the grand prize for the best-performing competitor.
Jonathan Christie, chief executive of The Cabrach Trust, said: "I could not believe it when I unsuspectingly answered the phone and found myself speaking with Adrian Taylor.
"We are beyond delighted to welcome the Rose Bowl back to its rightful home and are indebted to Adrian for recognising its significance to the Cabrach's rich culture and history."

Cape Town: Foul stench sweeping across South African city blamed on cattle ship
A foul stench engulfing the South African city of Cape Town is coming from a ship carrying cattle that is docked in the port, officials have said.
"We are in hell," one resident wrote on X.
Another posted: "Cape Town absolutely reeks today. The ship is 8km away, and I can still smell it...
"I hope this situation can be sorted out swiftly. Not just for the personal comfort of Cape Town residents but for the poor cattle being kept in these horrible conditions."
City authorities launched an investigation and inspected sewage facilities for leaks before the source of the smell was discovered: a ship docked in the harbour carrying 19,000 live cattle from Brazil to Iraq.
Zahid Badroodien, the official in the mayor's office in charge of water and sanitation, said the ship is due to depart soon - likely to the relief of residents who had an unpleasant start to their working week.
The 190m-long (623ft) Al Kuwait is a Kuwaiti-flagged livestock vessel, according to the Marine Traffic website.
It docked in Cape Town to load feed for the cattle, the NSPCA said.
The animal welfare charity has launched an investigation and said one of its veterinary consultants had been on the ship to assess the conditions.
"We acknowledge the concerns raised by members of the public regarding the noticeable stench emanating from the ship, reaching the city centre and surrounds," it said in a statement on its website.
"This smell is indicative of the awful conditions the animals endure, having already spent two-and-a-half weeks on board, with a build-up of faeces and ammonia.
"The stench onboard is unimaginable, yet the animals face this every single day."
The NSPCA's Grace de Lange told Eyewitness News: "We've had to euthanise about five of the cattle due to injuries.
"The smell is absolutely horrendous so you can just imagine what those animals must be going through, and they still have to endure a long time at sea to their final destination."

Guinness World Records' 'oldest dog' Bobi stripped of title
Bobi, who was crowned the world's oldest dog, has had his title stripped from him following controversy around his real age.
Bobi, who lived in Portugal, was said to have been 30 years and 268 days old when he was named the world's oldest by Guinness World Records (GWR) last February.
In October 2023, he died at the reported age of 31 years and 165 days.
But last month the GWR launched an investigation into the Portuguese canine after doubts were raised over his real age.
The probe came despite his birth apparently being confirmed by the Portuguese government's pet database and the National Union of Veterinarians.
Bobi was a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a breed of livestock guardian dog with an average life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.
When Bobi was crowned the world's oldest canine, it broke a record held since 1939 by an Australian cattle dog that died at 29 years and five months.
The GWR has now said it has no conclusive evidence that Bobi lived that long.
Mark McKinley, director of records at GWR, said in a statement that microchip data sourced from the official Portuguese database had been central to Bobi's evidence, but it turned out the chipping did not require proof of age for dogs born before 2008.
"With the additional veterinary statement provided as evidence for Bobi's age also citing this microchip data, we're left with no conclusive evidence which can definitively prove Bobi's date of birth," he wrote.
"Without any conclusive evidence available to us right now, we simply can't retain Bobi as the record holder and honestly claim to maintain the high standards we set ourselves."
Bobi lived his entire life with Leonel Costa and his family in the rural village of Conqueiros in Portugal.
Mr Costa did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
In an emailed statement in January, his owner defended the title, saying Guinness World Records had spent a year checking the record claim.

Brunell: Isle of Skye's lost village unveiled after tree-felling operation in Glen Brittle
Records showed the settlement - referred to as Brunell - was once bustling with around 2,250 people, who farmed cattle, sheep and horses.
The ruins of a lost village, dating back to the 17th or 18th century, have been unveiled following a special forestry operation on the Isle of Skye.
The remains of houses, byres, barns and corn-drying kilns in Glen Brittle had been hidden from view by a commercial Sitka spruce plantation planted in 1977.
Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) commissioned an archaeological survey of the site before the trees were harvested.
Records showed the settlement - referred to as Brunell - was once bustling with around 2,250 people, who farmed cattle, sheep and horses to "pay their rents and supply themselves with necessities".
In a later census, the population had decreased to 1,769 and continued to drop.
It is believed the site eventually fell into ruin due to the system of incorporating smaller farms into "one large tack for sheep-grazing".
FLS said the township was deserted by the time of the first Ordnance Survey, which depicted only two unroofed buildings and a field on the 1881 map.
The Scottish government agency said 28 buildings were recorded by AOC Archaeology's survey and part of the settlement had been "partially masked by windblown trees".
It said the survey was used in the "careful planning and delivery" of the tree-felling operation, with small tracks laid out to allow the machinery to work around the ruins to avoid causing damage as the area was cleared.
In a blog update, FLS said: "Some of the buildings are now readily visible in cleared areas, while some remain under trees."

'Thousands' of starfish wash up on beach in Margate
"Thousands" of starfish have washed up on a beach in Kent, with the local council warning residents "to keep dogs and children away from them".
The starfish were seen between Margate Winter Gardens and the lido at Margate Beach on Monday, according to Andy Freeman.
He spotted what appeared to be thousands of the dead sea creatures and posted images in a local Facebook group.
Wash-ups are common after spells of bad weather, and Margate reached low temperatures, endured spells of rain and strong winds in the days leading up to Monday, with the Met Office and Environment Agency warning those in the area of potential flooding.
The Environment Agency says marine life such as whole invertebrates, like starfish, crabs and other crustaceans can be vulnerable to wash-ups as they tend to live in or migrate to shallow water, meaning they are more likely to be swept on to beaches.
Thanet District Council said they were aware of the incident and said it was "likely to have been caused by recent rough seas and onshore winds".
"We understand the concern from members of the public when sea life is discovered on the district's beaches," they said.
"We report all dead aquatic mammals to British Divers Marine Life Rescue, who collect the remains."
Members of the public were advised "not to attempt to move any stranded sea life and to keep dogs and children away from them, as they may have infectious or transferable diseases".

Corpse flower's intense stench attracts visitors in San Francisco
People have lined up to get a whiff of the corpse flower - a plant that only blooms once every seven to 10 years.
The amorphophallus titanum gets its nickname from its stench, described by some as the smell of rotting flesh, though others detect hints of rotting food, sweaty socks or even garlic.
Crowds lined up at the California Academy of Sciences (CAS), a research institution and museum, on Wednesday as the endangered tropical flower bloomed, releasing the intense scent.
The corpse flower only blooms for one to three days despite taking up to a decade to do so.
Lauren Greig, a horticulturist from the CAS, which is in San Francisco, says the smell is essentially bad by design.
"It's kind of imitating the smell of kind of a dead carcass to kind of get all the flies to come and interact with it, pick up pollen, and then take that pollen to another flower that it might investigate due to its smell," she explained.
It was the first bloom for the corpse flower named Mirage, which was donated to the CAS in 2017. It's been housed in the museum's rainforest exhibit since 2020.
Bri Lister, a data scientist who lives in San Francisco, moved some meetings and waited in line for about an hour to catch a whiff of the plant.
"In certain directions, I definitely picked up on the sweaty socks, sweaty gym clothes, but probably luckily not full-on rotting meat, but definitely a smellier plant than average," Mr Lister said.
Monica Becker took her child out of school to see the flower in person after watching it on the academy's livestream.
"When we heard it bloomed, we were like… we got to go, first thing in the morning when they open. So here we are," Ms Becker said.
"I smelled sweaty feet, sort of sweet, pungent… kind of like your shin guards after soccer," she joked, turning to her child.
The amorphophallus titanum is native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra. It is listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with only less than 1,000 individual plants left in the wild.

Humpback whales photographed having sex for first time – and both were male
Photographers have captured images of humpback whales engaging in sexual activity for the first time – and the mammals being intimate were both males.
The behaviour of humpbacks has fascinated scientists for decades - but a study published this week features the first photos of the species having penetrative sex, its authors have said.
It was written by marine biologist Stephanie Stack and the two photographers who captured the encounter, Lyle Krannichfeld and Brandi Romano.
The whole discovery was "opportunistic," they said, as the whales "slowly approached" the photographers' boat while they were out in waters west of the Hawaiian island of Maui in January 2022.
The photos show a healthy and strong male whale penetrating another, who appears unhealthy or injured and emaciated, the study said.
The mammals - which usually range from 12 to 16 metres long - circled the vessel "several times" with the healthier whale "pursuing" the other.

I'm not surprised by this scandal or any others that are yet to be uncovered, after all we are living in the Tory ****ed up UK and, if you think for one moment that the Labour Party will stop anything like this from happening you'll be sadly mistaken, they'll only make things easier for these crooks and worse for us.
Corrupt Lords and MPs and the same goes for your Local Councillors and Civil Servants too, the UK is heading down the toilet like a runaway express and there isn't anyone with the brains to stop it.
The UK headed into decline when Margaret Thatcher sold the Nations Utilities off to the highest bidders, all under the pretext that they'll deliver a cheaper service, well, how did that work out then?, what!, your bills are going through the roof!, unbelievable.
Never believe a Tory when they say things will be cheaper in the long run, as for the Labour Party, don't believe anything those muppets tell you, when you look around the House of Commons that's where the decline started and that's where it will end, not with a Roar but with a Whimper. :salute:

Grandmother left dangling 7ft upside down after getting stuck in shop's shutters
A grandmother was left dangling upside down after her coat got caught in a shop's security shutters.
Anne Hughes, 71, was seen on CCTV being lifted 7ft into the air outside a convenience store in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
She has been dubbed "SuperAnne" in her home village in Wales and said the incident "could only happen to me".
Speaking at her home near the Best One shop in Tonteg, near Pontypridd, Ms Hughes said her thought at the time was "flipping heck".
"It's just lucky I've got a good sense of humour," she said.
Ms Hughes was standing outside the store, where she works as a cleaner, waiting for it to open when the electric shutters were raised and her coat got stuck.
Footage showed her dangling upside down before a shopkeeper rescued her by holding her in his arms as the shutter was slowly lowered.
She said: "I've been suffering falls for the past six months or so and the doctors up the hospital think it's from low blood pressure - it was going up then."

Mother 'concocted drink to stop it being stolen by son's school bullies', leaving child in hospital
Police say a woman has been arrested after concocting a drink to stop it from being stolen by school bullies - leaving one child in hospital.
Bexar County Sheriff's Deputies were called to Legacy Traditional School - Alamo Ranch, in Texas, after a child became sick.
Upon arrival they were told the stricken child had been given a drink by a classmate during a PE lesson.
The liquid in the sports bottle was found to contain a mixture of lemon, salt and vinegar.
"Shortly after the child consumed the drink, he began experiencing nausea and a headache," police said.
"Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that the mother of the student who provided the drink intentionally mixed the contents of the drink to allegedly prevent her son's drink from being stolen at school by other students."
The officers added that although the contents of the drink were non-toxic, the child had to be taken to hospital as a result of consuming it.
"Hospital staff informed the investigator that the child victim required additional medical monitoring and would eventually be discharged from the hospital," police said.
They said the mother who mixed the drink, Jennifer Lynn Rossi, 45, was charged with injury to a child causing bodily injury, and was being held in jail.

Roswell UFO sightings can be explained by classified programme, Pentagon reveals in new report
Government investigations have found no evidence of alien technology, the Pentagon has said in a newly-released report.
The Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), set up in 2022 to investigate and record reports of unknown objects, examined government investigations from as far back as 1945 but found there was no evidence of the US having alien bodies or technology.
In its report, the AARO said many "sightings" of UFOs were from people who unknowingly saw the testing or use of classified technology.
Claims of an alien spacecraft crashing near the New Mexico town of Roswell in 1947, for example, were consistent with Project Mogul - a classified programme using microphones flown on high-altitude balloons in a bid to detect Soviet nuclear bomb tests.
The AARO said: "All investigative efforts, at all levels of classification, concluded that most sightings were ordinary objects and phenomena and the result of misidentification."
Most UFO reports remain unsolved, the AARO said, but with more data, most of them could be "identified and resolved as ordinary objects or phenomena".
The AARO has also revealed plans for portable UFO detection kits to collect more data on "sightings".
Acting director Timothy Phillips said the new kits, currently being tested in Texas, would have an array of sensors that fit inside a protective case.
"If we have a national security site and there are objects being reported that [are] within restricted airspace or within a maritime range or within the proximity of one of our spaceships, we need to understand what that is," he told CNN.
"And so that's why we're developing sensor capability that we can deploy in reaction to reports."
The system is called Gremlin and could be deployed to a site with many reports of UAP - unidentified anomalous phenomena, the Pentagon's term for UFOs.

Britain faces growing number of anti-blasphemy protests against those who 'insult Islam', with threats of violence and intimidation becoming more frequent, new report warns
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13181765/Britain-faces-growing-number-anti-blasphemy-protests-against-insult-Islam-threats-violence-intimidation-frequent-new-report-warns.html
Michael Gove needs to crack down on these anti-blasphemy protests because the Home Secretary James Cleverly isn't ****ing interested in it, but, we know he'll bottle it as usual, just like the rest of Westminster has in the past.
Get a bleeding backbone you currants or this will only get worse, if the Labour Party get into power the floodgates will really open and the rest of the UK will turn into the same cesspit as Londonistan.

Worms living near Chernobyl nuclear plant have developed a ‘super power’
Worms living near the world’s most well-known nuclear disaster zone appear to have developed new powers - immunity to radiation.
In a new study, scientists visited Chernobyl to investigate nematodes, tiny worms with simple genetic makeup, which rapidly reproduce.
The researchers gathered the worms from soil samples, rotting fruit and other materials and tested local levels of radiation.
The levels of radiation varied from low levels which would be recorded in large cities, and high levels that are found in outer space.

Indonesia: Two pilots fall asleep for 28 minutes during Batik Air flight
Two pilots fell asleep for almost 30 minutes during a passenger flight over Indonesia, according to a report.
The incident occurred on 25 January this year, on a Batik Air return flight from Haluoleo International Airport, in Indonesia's Southeast Sulawesi region, to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, in the capital, Jakarta.
Both co-pilots, a 28-year-old man and a 32-year-old man, fell asleep for around 28 minutes, according to the preliminary report from Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
When they woke up, they found the aircraft was "not on the correct flight path".
According to the report, the younger of the pilots - the second in command - had been struggling to sleep lately, after his wife gave birth to twins. The family had also recently moved house.
The initial leg of the flight out from the Indonesian capital went off without incident, and the younger pilot slept for about 30 minutes before waking up for the descent.
After landing, the report said that the men ate instant noodles in the cockpit, before taking back off again.
Then, with 153 passengers and four flight attendants on board, the pilots flew to 36,000 feet, at which point the 32-year-old told his co-pilot to take control of the plane, saying he needed to rest.
The younger co-pilot agreed, but during the flight inadvertently fell asleep as well, with both seemingly asleep for approximately 241 miles, according to the report.

Jakarta air traffic control repeatedly tried to contact the cockpit of the Batik Air A320 flight.
However, they received no response for 28 minutes until the older pilot woke up.
He then woke his co-pilot, corrected the flight path, and they were able to land the plane at Jakarta safely.
Batik Air has been approached for comment.

'They're all high': Rats eat marijuana from police evidence room
Rats that managed to get into an evidence room at a decaying police headquarters building have been eating confiscated marijuana, the New Orleans police chief has said.
The ageing offices of the police department in New Orleans are so dilapidated and vermin-infested that the animals managed to get into the evidence lock-up room, according to Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick.
"The rats eating our marijuana, they're all high," she told city council members on Wednesday.
"The uncleanliness [in the building] is off the charts," she added.
Rat droppings have been found on officers' desks, Ms Kirkpatrick said - adding that the building, where the department has been based since 1968, has been taken over by mould and cockroaches.
Ron Harrison, global technical director for Orkin Pest Control, said he hasn't heard of rats eating marijuana before.
As to what they go through when they do, he told The Associated Press that they may experience the same effects as humans, depending on what form it was in.
Many people experience a sense of relaxation and euphoria from the drug, as well as altered senses, according to the national institute on drug abuse.
"From understanding the biology of the rat and how it's somewhat similar to us, I would think based on the amount or concentration they take in, it would be somewhat similar to what humans experience," Mr Harrison said.
Ms Kirkpatrick said that the working conditions in the headquarters mean demoralised staff have to cope with broken air-conditioning and lifts and potential recruits are put off coming for interviews.
However, she praised the department's office cleaning staff, who "deserve an award for trying to clean what is uncleanable".
Finding new premises for the 910 officers has been one of her priorities since becoming chief in October, she said.
Councillors are considering a proposal to spend $7.6m (£6.5m) on a 10-year lease to temporarily relocate the police headquarters to a pair of floors in a high-rise building in the city's downtown area.

Alligator twice the size of a man seized after being kept illegally in home
An alligator kept in a home "since the 1990s" has been seized by authorities in New York - but its owner vowed to fight for its return.
Environmental officers seized the 340kg, 3.4m/11ft-long alligator called Albert from a home in Hamburg, south of Buffalo, where they found a swimming pool for the 30-year-old gator.
According to the state department of environmental conservation, the homeowner allowed people - including children - to get into the water with the reptile, which had blindness in both eyes and spinal complications.
The owner's licence to keep the animal expired in 2021, meaning it has since been kept illegally.
Officers took action on Wednesday after learning the "extent at which the owner was seriously endangering the public", according to a statement from the agency.
But Tony Cavallaro said Albert had been with him since the 1990s and promised to fight for his return.
He said he treated the alligator like it was his kid and that he never put anyone in danger.
"I'm not dangerous, I'm not being unsafe with people," Mr Cavallaro said.
