View Full Version : ADMINISTRATOR PERMISSION Please?
Hello everybody, Need some help please?
I have had Two Version Of Silent Hunter for years now:-
1. Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific.
2. Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific GOLD EDITION with the UBoat Missions.
Both worked when I had Windows XP and Windows 7 and have both worked In
Windows 10 until I recently upgraded to a newer Version of Windows 10.
Can somebody please help with the "Administrator Permisions" I am having.
Message:- "An Administrator has Blocked you from Running this App."
Is there a set Menu to get this working.
Either or Working would be a Bonus.
any help or suggestions Please?
Many thanks
Paul.

paul,
the message you are receiving is due to the fact that your username on your PC is NOT an administrator.
so, two ways to cure this:
login to your PC with your admin username, go to Change User Account Control, then change your game-playing username to have Admin priviledge,
or
you can use the Admin username to play the game.
there is a third way but it is similar to the two above. Right-click on SH4 and select Run as Administrator. Every time you want to play.
:Kaleun_Salute:
p.s. Play Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific GOLD EDITION with the UBoat Missions. the lion's share of the mods require this version.
Hi, sorry (Don't know your Name) many thanks for the Reply.
No matter what i Do with this I am still getting the Red Box telling me I still need "Administrator Permissions"
However, I have resolved the problem by Cheating.
I have Two Desktop Computers, So this morning I re-booted the Old Computer and Installed "Silent Hunter 4 Gold Edition" Because I Know It worked on this Old Computer.
Having made sure It was still working I then Copied The Silent Hunter Folder From Drive C: onto an Eternal Hard Drive and then copied the Folder Into Drive C: on my Not so New Computer. And it works a treat.
Not very conventional I know, but It worked!!!
Many thanks for the help.
Paul.
Hi everybody
Unfortunately this Cheat did not work after all, only worked Once.
Now I am at the stage where the Silent Hunter shortcut only opens to the Desktop to the SH4.exe box, but when clicking "Yes" crashes back to the Desktop.
any more help or suggestions Please?
Many thanks
Paul.

paul,
when you copied the game from one pc to another, into which folder did you copy it?
km
Hi km, thanks for the reply.
This game hasn't been copied from one Computer to another!
I have the "silent Hunter 4 Gold Edition" CD.
Which is totally undamaged and Installed In Drive C:
Not Program Files or program Files (x86).
This Silent Hunter
Hope this helps
Many thanks
Paul.
P.S. This SH 4 did work on this Computer When I first got It. and I'm assuming the new Windows 10 change to this Computer and Automatic Updates which I have recently blocked may have affected It.

ok.
if you browse to the folder in which SH4.exe resides, rt click on that file, select Properties, then look at the compatibility tab and post what the current settings are. a screen print will work just fine.
and...just for grins, can you post what is in the security tab? this will list the users as well as the permissions.
something is wonky so we have to go back to the fundamentals.:hmmm::timeout:

Paul.
ok.

For your "Properties" there Paul, click that "Disable full-screen optimizations" to a "BOX CHECKED". Then try to run the game. If it still does not start, leave it checked still but click on that "Change high DPI settings" button, and make certain the next page has the bottom section "High DPI Scaling Override" set to "Override high DPI scaling behavior" with a "BOX CHECKED", and the following "Scaling performed by:" drop-down set to "Application". Then try again. Let us know how it goes. :salute:

pardon me for jumping in here.....
i just purchased a refurb HP laptop and installed SH4 under a non-admin account to use for normal, everyday stuff, like playing SH4.
first time i launched it i got the red-screen-of-death.
then i noodled around (technical term) in the Properties-Security window and found a solution. this may work for you.
right click on sh4.exe and click on the Security tab.
Click on the Advanced button near the bottom of Properties-Security.
Click on the Effective Access tab.
Click on the Select a User link. enter the local user name you are using on your PC. click ok.
then ok yourself back out to the desktop.
launch sh4.exe.
try it.
