Watching a livestream from 11 Sept. 2001 on YT.

The video made me think-We declared war on terrorism, how well did we do now 22 years after ?

We lost the war in Afghanistan and it seems like we are losing it in Iraq.

Which comes to the conclusion-Did we lose the war against terrorism ?
(This is not a 9/11 discussion-but a discussion about war on terrorism)

Been thinking and maybe the title should have been
Have we lost the war against terrorism ?

It's pretty hard to have a war with anybody if they constantly hide behind a cloak of invisibility, it's a lot more difficult to organise spectacular events like the twin towers anymore, and with the world moving on in the last twenty odd years, an increase in surveillance just makes it that much more difficult for the terrorists.

Rates right along side of the War on Drugs.
2 Wars started. Not a single 1 won.
:nope:

Unless you consider those in Power got MORE Power.
And those same got more money.

Don't worry, they'll make up for it by winning the war on old white men. and the war on common sense. :03:

Those Terrorists who started with that Bin fellow are all old men now, or dead, they were the real threat to the world, the current war on Terror will never be won or lost it will just fade away like ETA, IRA and all the other terrorist groups, boredom is the Terrorists Nemesis and when it comes they'll leave it all behind.

This is what would possibly be written in our National newspaper "The Daily Mail" by todays journalism standards.

37 London Shoppers Survived FATAL Shooting In Oxford Street.

The Terrorist, wearing "Green Eye Shadow" from "Max Factor" £4,299, and co-ordinated with purple "Lush Lips" lipstick from "Chanel" £3,099, was flaunting her\his way down Oxford Street and baring her\his toned arms while wearing the latest "Lady-Datejust Rolex" wristwatch £35,300 in the midday sun. She\him was wearing a blue "Dior" midi skirt £31,349, and paired this with a yellow and orange pastel shaded tee shirt also from "Dior" £28,249.

She\him topped this off with a "Hermès" handbag £15,760 recently stolen from "Prada" Selfridges of London and a pair of yellow pastel dainty high heels from "Schuh" £19,389.

She\him accessorised this with the latest fashionista item, non other than the famous perfume scented AK47 with the latest pink and lime green scented cartridges and bullets from "Dead Bums" £38,079, if you're going to be killed there isn't a better weapon on the market to be killed with, look good and smell good, that is "Dead Bums" policy.

The police have surrounded the Terrorist and the chief of the Metropolitan police "Lord Septimus Littledick" MBE, OBE, CBE, BBC, ITV, QC, KC, is currently haggling a price for the said weapon who wants it for his husbands birthday present.

Coming to you soon folks. :O:

Well, that would depend on what is defined as "winning against terrorism"

I doubt it would ever be won. It's just too handy as an excuse for government to increase their power over the citizenry.

I agree, terrorism is an activity. It would be like asking if we have won the battle against murder

You can't "win" against an activity or ideology.

But you can use it to increase government power over the population.

When I was a kid, far back in the mists and shadows of the primordial world, there was a Public Service Announcement on television that said something like, "We can end illiteracy in our time."

Having spoken to a few recent high school graduates lately, I think that you can tally that as another loss. In the War On Illiteracy, we're being overrun. :haha:

Beware of any politician who tries to instill a sense of fear in the population

Fear is a powerful tool to control people. Politicians know this, so should the citizens.

The desire to hold political office or to wield authority over the lives of others should be an automatic, lifetime disqualifier for ever holding political office or wielding authority over the lives of others.

Otherwise the psychopaths float to the top of human society, with all the ensuing repercussions.

Our new president should have to be dragged, kicking and screaming and fighting tooth and nail into the Oval Office, screaming, "Let me go, you sons-of-b*tches! I don't want to be President!"

Steinbeck's, "Cannery Row" comes to mind. Poor Hazel. :haha:

You cannot win a war against illiteracy if you don't pay teachers properly, let school buildings rot and ban books because some parent or religious fundamentalist doesn't like the content.

You cannot win a war against terrorism if you don't even care about the reasons why people become terrorists in the first place. As long as you only kill terrorists and/or their supporters there will always be others.

Your first point is true so long as we're talking about actual teachers and not social or political activists bent on indoctrinating young minds instead of expanding them.

Your second point is true if the people becoming terrorists are becoming so in response to something, and not just trying to force their values and point of view on others.

That's a popular meme but it ignores the fact that someone who doesn't want a job and is forced into it anyways might just sabotage it in revenge.

The reality is you can't lead if you don't want to lead.

Well, August, I must respectfully disagree. If that was true, I'd have never reached the rank that I attained during my military career. :haha:
