Living SH3...I tried my best to use it.

Hi all. I really tried my best to use Living Silent Hunter 3. I worked long into the night trying to get it to work the way I wanted. But I just couldn't do it. Oh, I got the sim working just fine. The graphics are fantastic! The problem (for me) was integrating the mods I liked to use, into the sim. I tried using JSGME....no luck. Tried doing manual incorporation of changes. Still no luck. In the "normal" SH3 installation all these changes worked just fine. The only conclusion I can draw, is that LSH3 is hard-coded to prevent the changes and mods I wanted to use. Perhaps using them would cause instability, or those that made the sim weren't interested in using these mods...I dunno. Specifically, I wanted to use:
"WolfiesTweakPak" and "ASN Torpedoes". Also, I wanted to modify the Basic.cfg to allow increased renown for certain achievements. None of this was permitted. So I am going back to the standard version of SH3. I will most certainly miss the beautiful graphics. But gameplay trumps eye candy for me.

Try the onealex mod, built off of GWX and has all the best mods from subsim community built into it and its an easy install. You can also join the Onealex mod discord from my signature and get the mod there.

I switched away from GWX about a year ago. The detection parameters for the escorts are a bit sub-optimal. The escorts detect you using their hydrophones as soon as you hit something and race to where you fired from, so it is important to go fast as soon as you fire. The depth charges are so accurately set that changing depth is a completely successful evasion tactic.
Can I recommend NYGM, e.g. NYGM Enhanced Hardcore from Fifi? The ranges for passive hydrophone detection seem much shorter and it is easier to sneak away after an attack, so NYGM actually seems to be easier in the early war. However I've not got to the difficult part yet...
I do miss the detail level of the GWX campaign and I understand work is underway to tweak the detection parameters in the next major update, so I predict a return to GWX fairly soon.

My laptop is too old to play Onealex GWX or NYGM Hardcore Enhanced. I'm comparing GWX gold with NYGM 2017A. The oceans seem a lot emptier with my flavour of NYGM and there are much fewer radio contacts.


I guess from your quick response you've "enhanced" that aspect? I really like the NYGM 2017A escort behaviour and I hope you have managed to retain that.

Yes NYGM escorts are still there, but now oceans are as populated as others megamods …
A shame NYGM enhanced is not good for laptop :yep:

Well I tried GWX 3.0 and it also wasn't my cup of tea (not that I drink tea:haha:) So I will try Onealex. Is there a list of the contents of Onealex anywhere?

I'm cracking up since days about this. If the detection parameters for your u-boat are sub-optimal, do you have to fear for your life or can you lay back relaxed?

Well I finally got LSH3 working pretty well. To get most of the mods I wanted, I just copied the "Basic" file from my regular installation of SH3 and dropped it into the LSH3 location. I had to completely delete the Basic file that was in LSH3 to get it installed. Wouldn't let me overwrite it. But I now have the changes I made in SH3 in LSH3. Only thing I am unable to activate is Wolfie's Tweak Package. And YES, I sure miss that. But otherwise, everything is working as hoped for. :up:
