Well it looks like my days of sailing the pacific are limited to the copy I have on my pc as my eventual notebook which will replace my pc does not like SH4 at all. I tried to load disk, crashes halfway through installation. I tried to download it from Steam a number of times, it does and installs BUT, whenever I try to start it, nothing happens. I tried to start it from steam, it says 'running' and just sits there. I uninstalled it twice and put it back, no change.

I am on a high res notebook (MSI Vector GP77 13V) RTX 4070 with oudles of space and 16GB RAM. Everything else I have copied across from steam is great.

I do have a saved exe in downloads 4.1.4 but win 11 says that exe file is banned and refuses to load it, even after I said Load Anyway.

...a direct PM to propbeanie might prove the most efficacious!:hmmm:

Really? When I got my new WIN11 rig, I just copied the entire game folder, and the saves folder over from the old rig. It seems to be working just fine for me.

I haven't actually done the installation process on the WIN11 for any of my SH games. I'm guessing the issues lies with the install, not the functioning of the game... :hmmm:

I got that fed up of the new laptop and various problems I sent it back this morning. When I get my refund I am going for an Asus laptop with RTX 4070 graphics. It was strange because I did an Nvidia software inspection of the machine and it reported NO Nvidia parts are installed on this pc. Nor could I find the supposed RTX 4070 in it but it was advertised on Amazon as such and had an Nvidia sticker on the casing. Freezing screens 4-5 seconds a few times an hour and a jumping staggering mouse (tried a new one) also annoying. Anyway, I await my Asus.

...my meagre understanding of computer matters was that WIN 11 was to be avoided with regard to :subsim: games, particularly accompanied by the member's carefuly assembled modsoup; thus, on my own recently acquired new computer, I assiduously decline the obnoxious, insistant WIN 11 upgrade notice that always pops up particularly when the Countess is attacking my fortress or ruining the wheatfield in Steam's Lord's of the Realm!:Kaleun_Mad: :arrgh!:

Well, after getting my new card, which is a winner. It plays all my stuff, except SH4 which kept crashing. Fine, I uninstalled it and took it, via CD, to a C drive destination instead of my F:\game.

I installed it on C:/Games and ran the original, it was working. So, one at a time I put into folders the various mods and ran it, so far so good. It easy to insert the changes into the folders involved so stayed without that JSGME, did not like me before changes, so I left it out. I might even be able to finish a career!!! :yeah:

vielen danke to the posts above.n :Kaleun_Cheers:

This is fun, not!

I was running the game smoothly, and decided to add one more mod - Deck Gun optics. Oh dear, as a sub captain I am a good tugboat capt!

BAM! one screwed up game. Answer: reinstall and remember the original mods. With my memory, no easy task. But I did it and back to where I was.

At least I have a game, no more experiments

SH4 rules OK
