View Full Version : SH4 - FOTRSU Crash on start partol
Hi Submariners!
I've been having problems with the FOTRSU mod. Prior to installing this SH4 was working fine but watching Wolfpack345 I cdecided to try this mod.
Everything seems fine as it loads to the menu, I get all the way to Start Patrol - the next screen gives me the option of where to start (docked or at sea) - I cleck next, the load bar gets all the way to the end then the game shuts down completely with no errors.
- I've tried running compatibility for XP and Vista. I've also checked SH4.exe isn't set to read only. Tried windowed mode on/off.
- My JSGME mods are FOTRSU 1.8 / FI-OQ fotrsu 1.8f upcPatch / 101 fotrsuv18 Fixpak
Running Windows 10 / 16gb Ram / RTX2070
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jex

welcome, jex.
here are a couple of threads that you should read in order to fix your problem, which could be caused by any number of reasons as this is an Ubi-designed game.

Welcome to SubSim Jex :subsim:
Look in the Support folder of the FotRSU mod, and find the pdf files there. Lots of info. As KaleunMarco mentions, if you use the JSGME "Tasks" to get a copy of your mod list, it will show your install folder path, with could well be the issue if you are in the default folder of "C:\Program Files (x86)", which Windows will treat you most unkindly there, causing most all mods to fail. A re-install into a folder you create yourself might be in order. You also should have the 101 fotrsuv18 Fixpak 2nd in your mod list, else the FI-OQ might be partially overwritten by it. Since you crash as the 3D world is rendering, yet the game worked fine previously, you most likely have the DirectX v9.0c files loaded. However, you might have to mess further with the SH4.exe "Properties" settings on the Compatibility tab. Navigate into the game folder, right-click on SH4.exe, and choose "Properties" at the bottom of the context menu. Click on the Compatibility tab, and start trying various settings. What you end up using depends upon your computer hardware. Refer to Post #216 (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2783860#post2783860) in the Windows 10 thread above this one.
You also mention having SH4.exe write-enabled, but you do not mention if you used either LAA (Large Address Aware) (https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/) or the 4GB Patch (https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371) on the SH4.exe file, which is what tells Windows that SH4 is 'qualified' to flat-address and access more than 1.96gb of your RAM. If not, then you are limited to a smaller "sandbox" that Windows give all of the 32-bit apps to play in. You MUST have one or the other properly enabled on the SH4.exe, else FotRSU will not run.
You also do not mention whether you emptied the Save folder after activating FotRSU. That folder defaults to C:\Users \UserName \Documents \SH4. If you did not empty that folder, then you have a mix of Stock and FotRSU, which would crash upon loading. You must empty the Save folder, which is then re-created with the new data when you next run the game. You could also use MultiSH4 v1.5 (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1110) to create a new 3-character Save folder of your own naming...
These are the more common issues encountered by most folks, using most mods. However, as KM mentions, there are many more!!! It is best to post with more information about what you have or have not done with your install / Save folder... :salute:
Thanks Guys!
I'll go through what you've suggested and post back if I succeed or (hopefully not) fail. I only installed the mod today but having a quick read through I can see some stuff I can get my teeth into which will be tomorrow's task.
Thanks again for the help!

Hi everyone.
I also got inspired by Wolfpack345 videos on Youtube and decided to try out this package Fortsu 1.8.
I always use a separate folder for my different modded SH4 beginning with a clean SH4 copied into the new folder.
I also create a new save folder using the Multi-tool.
Now since it was a long time I did this I wonder if there is a comprehensive manual on how to add the FORTSU1.8 into this fresh SH4 install?

It's working!
Thank you guys for your help, I'm now docked at Peral Harbour ready to set off on my first patrol in FOTRSU.
To Fix my issue I deleted the SH4 folder in the users\documents folder then I ran the 4GB Patch program and that's all it needed.
To go over my install in case anyone else finds it a fairly mammoth task;
Download the JSGME mod enabler (links are all in the FOTRSU thread). You then need to set the Start In folder to where your SH4.exe is located. Right-Click your JSGME icon on your desktop - properties - Start In (In my case this is what I put in - "E:\Steam\steamapps\common\Silent Hunters Wolves of the Pacific")
Then I installed the mods in this order using JSGME;
100_Falloftherisingsun_ultimate_v1.8 (This can take a few minutes)
101_Fotrsuv18_FixPak
FI-OQ_Fotrsuv1.8f_upcPatch
I then deleted the folders in the SH4 folder - C:\Users \UserName \Documents \SH4
I then downloaded the 4GB Patch (From https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371) and ran it on the SH4 executable in my steam folder (I suspect it was this part here that was my issue).
Thanks again for the help now let's hope nobody sinks my boat! :):salute::subsim:

You do not need the FI-OQ Patch if you are not using vickers03's "Fleetboat Interior - Officer's Quarters" mod. The patch alters the sumarine upc files to conform to the FI-OQ paradigm for the crewmembers and their ranks is all it does.
For anyone interested, the first few posts of the REL FotRSU (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=2635992#post2635992) thread and the download page linked on that page, both have all sorts of information on various install methodologies and activation for the mod. Also, the Support folder has a lot of pdf files with even more detail. Also note that the AddInModzPak is a pack of small mods that end up in the Extras folder structure. To use the mods, you have to copy and paste them, or drag them into the MODS folder for activation. :salute:
Aahh though I have that mod too now :)
I just took a walk through my boat and found the galley, crew and captains quarters! Wasn't expecting that at all so that made me happy. They did a great job making this.

I followed all the corrective steps, it still crashes at patrol start
Massive waste. Of. Time.

A_Install your game by giving it a path other than C programs files..!!(D:\Sh4\Sh4_FOTRS18)
B_install JSGME see screen title n2 Now click on the JSGME icon it will create a folder called "Mod" you will place your famous mods there
https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2023/26/4/1688038547-capture.png
https://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2023/26/4/1688038718-capture.png
C_Patcher your games 4GB or Large Address Aware title n1
D_installer Multish4 in order to be able to install several sh4 installations do not forget to name it here example :"FR8"

Now we activate the mods via JSGME is how nice you have the list with which I play for 1 years without problem..

This mod is fantastic a phenomenal job has been done by the FoTrS team you have no idea how many hours they spent to get there.. So when you talk about wasting time it makes me laugh..!!
This game is very capricious to modder you have to be a little cerebral otherwise give up...
ah yes the people who help you here.. the least I can do is thank you.. because I have already helped you it seems to me some time ago... I have not heard back from you unless I am mistaken..
I wish you a good assembly and I hope to have been sufficiently clear..
Sincerely Kal Maximus U669
