Well it was 43 years ago si the men were in their thirties it is possible I suppose.

Well thirties is rather old for combat soldiers, maybe not the old Sarge of course but I would have thought the majority of them would have been in their early to mid 20's. That just seemed to me to be a bit soon to be one of the last survivors.

Of course having been a 3 year veteran of the US Army myself already when that incident occurred it might be somewhat wishful thinking! :)

Did a bit 'digging' and found out he was sixty years of age and had been suffering from cancer for a long time,

That would make him twenty years of age during the embassy siege.

That's more like it, but also sad that to know he was one of the last survivors of a pretty young group of men.
