China's Ding Liren (3rd world rank) wins against Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi (2nd world rank) in tie break.

Magnus Carlsen had rejected to defend his title anymore, saying he had no more motivation for it. He remains to be the top-ranked player in the world ranking list, and a record holder for normal, rapid and blitz chess world titles won.

Its the second failure for the Russian in a row. In the previous championship, he already had lost to Carlsen. This time he played under a neutral flag I think, and he had signed an open letter from Russian chess players opposing the war. Some of these top players were prohibited by the gangsters in the Kremlin to participate in tournaments. The FIDE is traditionally close to and dominated by the Kremlin. The Kremlin no doubt hoped for a Russian win to abuse it for propaganda and boost morale in Russia.
