I feel I'm not 20 anymore. So I'm a slow modder and for years SH-3 didnot have my attention anymore but everything came back a year ago when I upgraded my video card...
On an average I now worked a few hours per week on this project which delivers an enabler. Basically it could be a breakthrough or a failure: who knows?
For me it is a breakthrough and I hope it will be the same for you all. I create some movies this week to explain it and some demo's.

First I explain the project itself and my experiments into night surface attacks and what I think of it:

What is happening next?

If there is need for these mods: the Moon mod is about to be finished. There is no whish list. This project as-is drained my energy. If people are willing to learn how=to-hard-code-fix I might organize an online workshop.
As how to contine: I will ask some people to 'beta-test' and depending on the results further steps will follow. I have no intention to change Fifi's or OneAlex's mod so some form of working together is the idea.

- Hsie for his exellent hardcode mod. If you read this: a few of your discoveries in your assembly files I re-used!
- hughesjr for his basic voice attack profile (unreachable on Steam)
- Jerry Mason and crew

Update 6-1-2024: Release candidate 1.18 has arrived
More and more people are downloading the Night Surface attack project. So that is great! The 1.18 update we have is polishing what is already there. So this is what has changed:

SH-5 Water for SH-3 20 Km Atlantic V1000:
Ambient light for cloudy sky at night a now a bit darker
Changed the Lod factor to 15 and patches to 90 in the scene.dat for better performance

SH-5 Moon mod settings (SH-5.cfg) for all mega mods:
Adjusted sh5.cfg for vanilla, Fifi's, OneAlex & LSH 2022 according to this change in ambient lights

Moon mod:
- Northern lights will only be visible when there is no mist (totally clear night). Also the odds to to see them has been increased
- Northern lights are now a bit closer to avoid issues with Hsie's night vision fix
- Settings for Fifi's original environment have been removed after chat with Fubar
- Removed an obsolete sync statement to increase performance with a few FPS

Of course I like to thank Fubar295, Dieselglock & Mister_M again for their help during the testing!

Black Sea campaign done!
Currently adding all Med files to standalone mod :doh::D:haha:
So next update will not have separated files anymore (except for Med water & colors if desired)
Sailing back and forth into Mediterranean will be possible any date (more populated from La Spezia starting date though - 01/10/1942)

Work almost half done, career tested starting 01/10/42 at La Spezia… loading time=less than 4 mn! :o
Quite incredible :hmmm: the more I add units, the faster it loads! :haha:
(Made many optimizations and corrected some values inconsistencies that could explain faster loadings)

This is the twentyfifth of a serie of units for Kriegsmarine, reworked in collaboration with flush deck.

Pack include a multiskin unit based on Carl Peters class tender ships (three skins included, a generic gray one and one camo skin for every ship in the class).

NEW VERSION 5.5 IS OUT!
(Download in my signature spoiler, or first page of this thread)

Few changes that come to mind:

- Leigh Lights repaired, should be fonctional when date is reached (at night!)

- New flags (and some ships may have more than one!)

- New Ships (from Ccom12 & AlexB and adapted)

- Old ships completely re-worked and optimized

- Campaign files configuration dates adjusted, so units have latest equipment

- Campaign files waypoints adjusted & corrected

- Campaign files convoys units adjusted, so units are same at save reload!

- Campaign files harbor units adjusted

- Roster & roster definition sides corrected

- Black Sea campaign files also adjusted

- VIIB type have now handrails!

- Escorts burning in bad weather SHOULD be fixed (if not, try to play WITHOUT seasonal waves activated in Commander options)

- Loading times are even shortned due to optimization

- Etc etc (i don't recall all the changes :haha:)

Forgot to say I was unable to repair the Kiel kanal waypoints plotting … so until I find out a solution, I deleted the waypoints.

VERSION 5.6 IS OUT!

Please download lastest 5.6 version... Bordeaux harbor ships have been fixed.

Bonus: Added Vondos German Carl Peters ship, plus Vondos Komet & Pinguin ship...and of course their campaign files.

Also added new harbor East of South Afrika: Port Elizabeth (and its ships)… useful for flotilla 12 campaign from Bordeaux.

A while ago some posted a "KIEL LOCKS MOD FOR NYGM" that has or had been adjusted for newer versions of NYGM. Does anyone know if they are still compatable with the even newed versions of NYGM Enhanced Steel Coffins ? I guess I could try it out but I thought I'd ask here first Thanx

Ok, I send it to both of you. So after some testing, and without issues, I will make the fix/update available for everyone. Let's hope we can do that somewhere next week. :hmmm:

First these bugs affects the campaigns. The naval academy works as it should. Something I have seen before. So let me explain what I found:

There are multiple date/time variable in sh3. One of them controls the moon and the environment and one is the current date/time you see on the watches etc. The first one is not correct after a save/reload. After a reload the daynumber is set to 1. The effect you can see below:

In this case I started a patrol on the first of April 1941 (first row). Without safe/reload I continue the patrol until april 26th where I did a safe (second row). Then I reloaded the campaign (third row) and you can see the results. In the unpatched version the moon is back to its postition of april the first as well as the sky. Please notice that when we get closer to June the 21th days get shorter and the sun will set later.

All these pictures are same location and same time.

The fix corrects the date that controls the moon and environment by overwriting it with the current date/time just before calculations are done. This also solves a second bug as the update of that date/time is not correctly done.

So with this fix the moon will also follow the calendar provided with the moon mod.

After nearly six months development and much time preparation in advance. I am proudly announcing that SH3VoiceCommand v1.0 is officially released.

SH3VoiceCommand is a speech to command interface dedicated to support Silent Hunter game series. It uses state of the art AI speech recognition engine and offers a much greater complexity and functionality which surpass its' predecessor and peers.

It offers these following features:

🎈 Lightweight : Only adds about 20MB RAM in the 32bit section.
📣Responsive : The command delay can be as low as 500MS with proper setup & optimization.
👶Independent: No dependency on any third-party software or MOD (except the OS and graphic card packages).
🎮Integrated : Completely merged with sh3.exe running on parallel thread which has no interference with users' keyboard & mouse inputs

Known Issues:
Everyone has unique voice characteristics. It is likely each individual player needs to construct their own version config and language models. This may require a lot of time and dedication.
Due to decimal rounding and ocean current flow the confirmed command from the crew and actual command from user may have ±1 difference.
Depending on the user's graphic card performance and 3D workload the respond from transcriber can be slow. If this happens, switching on a live streaming application or a screen recording application can greatly improves the processing speed.
Upon exiting the game you might encounter invalid memory access error, e.g. exception on 0x5D9104F9 (C0000005, EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION), this is caused by SDL2.dll not being unloaded in the correct sequence. Simply ignore this warning because the game process has been terminated anyway.
(Personally, I am not very satisfied with the workaround fix above but in current conditions it is the easiest way without changing sh3.exe itself. If you have any recommendations, please contact me through subsim messages, any help is appreciated)
If game crashed while using SH3VoiceCommand the share memory might be leaked and can't be retrieved again. The transcriber will indicate "Share Memory NOT Ready" and exit after several attempts. You might need to restart windows in order to load SH3VoiceCommand again.
Some of the command phrases may not be very accurate, have grammar mistakes or even missing. If you have any recommendations, please feel free to leave a comment under the publication page of SH3VoiceCommand on subsim. Also state your reference regarding where is your source of information.

After nearly six months development and much time preparation in advance. I am proudly announcing that SH3VoiceCommand v1.0 is officially released.

SH3VoiceCommand is a speech to command interface dedicated to support Silent Hunter game series. It uses state of the art AI speech recognition engine and offers a much greater complexity and functionality which surpass its' predecessor and peers.

It offers these following features:

🎈 Lightweight : Only adds about 20MB RAM in the 32bit section.
📣Responsive : The command delay can be as low as 500MS with proper setup & optimization.
👶Independent: No dependency on any third-party software or MOD (except the OS and graphic card packages).
🎮Integrated : Completely merged with sh3.exe running on parallel thread which has no interference with users' keyboard & mouse inputs

Both of them are based on your previous ships!
Reworks for models include new details (like portholes, doors, stairs..) glass windows, rotating radar\rangefinders\torpedo launchers etc.
Both are showed with really basic textures, not intended for release.

Meanwhile, flush_deck is working on new textures sets for them, based on ww2 real camouflage schemes, with shadow effects and details; here's an example, based on my old D class cruiser..

I feel I'm not 20 anymore. So I'm a slow modder and for years SH-3 didnot have my attention anymore but everything came back a year ago when I upgraded my video card...
On an average I now worked a few hours per week on this project which delivers an enabler. Basically it could be a breakthrough or a failure: who knows?

Update 29-8-2024: Release 1.20 has arrived
This is what has changed compared to 1.19:

- Date/time bug:
There are multiple date/time variable in sh3. One of them controls the moon and the environment and one is the current date/time you see on the watches etc. The first one is not correct after a save/reload. After a reload this date is set to the start date/time of the current patrol or in case of a first patrol in a campaign this will be start date/time of the campaign. What is expected is that after a safe/reload sh3 should set this date/time to the current date/time.

The effect of this bug is that every time you reload a patrol your environment including the moon phase/position will jump back to the start of the patrol instead of to the current date/time.

The fix implemented in the moon mod for this is to overwrite the date/time for the environment with the current game date/time to make sure the calculations are done with the correct date and the moon and environment are shown as expected.

This will fix the CTD in the moon mod when running Windows 11 with KB5044030 or KB5044033 (.net framework) installed

How to add the patch for Windows 11 KB5044030 or KB5044033 on top of v1.20?

- unzip the "SH-5 Fixes for v1.20.zip" archive
- move the 2 mods inside the "SH-5 Fixes for v1.20" folder into your JSGME MODS folder
- In JSGME enable "SH-5 Fix for Windows 11 KB504403X and improved environment date for v1.20"
- this mod should be enabled on top of (after) the v1.20 "SH-5 Moon mod"
- if you use Stiebler's wheather fix you should enable "SH-5 Moon mod optional - Stiebler's wheather fix with improved environment date for v1.20" after "SH-5 Fix for Windows 11 KB504403X and improved environment date for v1.20".

VonDos has made a Best of SUBSIM nomination.
Nomination Category: SH3 Modder

Nomination basis: He created skins for 57 ships from VD&Co shipyard, and a lot of other graphic mod for SH3 and SH4. Shares the credit for all latest years VD&Co mods. Despite some technical problems, he faces the challenge with tenacity in order to continue modding.
More than a wingman, a true collaborator and Friend.

Just few words to explain the delay for the great units from my dear friend VonDos.

My S3D is off for several month now, and I don't know why..:hmmm:
I've tried all the tricks to solve the Problem but nothing work..

So I need to reinstal all my computer with XP operating system to see if it could be back. This is my last option so I cross finger and hope it can work again.

But for know I can't push on the texture work. It's the reason why VonDos delay the release of all those models
