I was recently running a career mission in the south China Sea in the model of boat that came after the Gato, a Tambor perhaps? It was late 1944, around midnight and the night was really dark, I was running decks awash at about 28-29' and the closest enemy was about 12 miles out. I had sunk a Small Old Split Freighter and a modern Large Freighter running alone, without escort several hours earlier.
I requested all ahead slow and rec'd a message saying "Cannot Compl y", I tried all the speed settings, forward and reverse, and rec'd the same message. I checked the props using the outside camera and sure enough they weren't turning and were not damaged or obstructed.
I was a long ways from home, with no help for 1000's of milesl Lucky for me, I could bail out, but my crew is still there in a saved file. Any idea how to survive or recover from this? Does it happen often?
Thanks -
