Is Dangerous Waters a good combat sim to play in anticipation of Sea Power? Thanks

No.
Fleet Command is the nearest in term of gameplay style.
Command Modern Operation is better but way more expensive.

Thanks. I've played both. Fleet Command is way more approachable but I have some display glitches. I was hoping for meaningful updates but other options seem to be 'coming soon'. :haha:

Or if you have Cold Waters, install the "dot mod" and you can play surface ships with some caveats and restrictions due to CW engine.

As opposed to playing The Sims or Call of Duty? Yeah, definitely. You can at least get familiarized with some relevant systems and weapons. But like UglyMowgli said, Dangerous Waters is a study sim where you play exclusively as one platform per mission, in great detail, and all centered around anti-submarine warfare. Sea Power will be controlling a bunch of different ships while also having to contend with the much different (and fast paced) anti-surface and anti-air domains, which you can experience as the Perry in Dangerous Waters.

yeah 50% of similarity in both but dw has data link and station to station on every unit very detailed also you can click on enemy and order attack or move (Easy mod ) in my opinion sea power is more user friendly nacy group Control and stuck with easy mod (mouse click ordering ) so just watch the tutorial videos' from the game menu or youtube for better quality and learn basic like Electronic warfare weapons and Units you be ok also always use drawing tools like ruler marker and range circle trust me it save you ton of time before any mission mistakes!
and finally remember more you play more you learn about units and their military capabilities and ranges ETC... :Kaleun_Wink:

From Destroyer Command, SSN, SH3, 688 (I), Fleet Command, Sub Command, Dangerous Waters, Cold Waters, Harpoon, Destroyer the U-boat Hunter, to Naval War Artic Circle, they are all good practices. Yet Sea Power is a better and improved version of Fleet Command, and you could have played DW in that mod of control. Now, the best way is to get the game and play it. It is meant to be played if you enjoy Naval Tactics.
