I once saw a drawing showing the sonar depths from a destroyer or so in every year of WWII.
What is a safe depth with respect to e.g. a destroyer or other surface ship, what should I do to not be noticed e.g. depth, distance etc.

You might be referring to the artwork that Ducimus had a few years ago, where he shows the early war sonar as going to roughly a 200 foot depth, and the late war going to 300 foot plus. Those drawings are in the TMO Manual, on page 41/42. However, the game is not "precise" by any stretch of the imagination, and I was never able to get "below" the sonar in TMO. Of course, back then, If I had a Porpoise, I did not attempt to go any deeper than 250 foot, because that was their test depth... You can go quite a bit deeper in the game than that, but you definitely have to pay attention to the sounds and visual warnings the game gives you when approaching crush depth.

Of more importance is the aspect ratio you present to the sonar source:

The less of your boat you "show" to sonar, the better. The less noise you make for the hydrophone, the better... :salute:
