If you watch it, these are 100 minutes of your life very well spend.

Trailer on Youtube where you can also buy the film:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usUqru8OJ0c

Until Octobre 25th this film is also available at the mediathek of 3SAT. I cannot tell you whether you can access it from your country, I don't know. Try it here:

https://www.3sat.de/film/dokumentarfilm/aware---reise-in-das-bewusstsein-100.html

The production is a German one, but almost all interview partners speak in English and they did not do German dubbing, but opted for German subtitles instead. (One shaman speaks Spanish, with german subtitles.) No German narrator from the Off. Thats what makes this accessible for you even if you do not understand German: the film practically is almost all in English.

Very impressive film. And touching. Only very rarely I found these topics being adressed this well.

Six researchers enter into a fictional exchange in the film: brain researcher Christof Koch, monk Matthieu Ricard, drug researcher Roland Griffiths, biologist Monica Gagliano, philosopher Richard Boothby and Mayan healer Josefa Kirvin Kulix.

All six are united by a passionate search for the core of human consciousness and its various forms and levels in the inner and outer worlds. Some speak of total purity, others of absolute interconnectedness.

By interweaving these approaches, which are on the one hand contrary and on the other hand complementary, "Aware - Journey into Consciousness" gradually develops from a science film into a visual meditation. The networks of consciousness are reflected in large cinematic images of interconnectedness and all-connectedness in nature, ranging from pea to jellyfish to whales and elephants to the cosmos. Viewers are invited to dive with these renowned researchers into an almost limitless ocean of consciousness, to re-examine long-held beliefs, or at least to be surprised.

"Aware - Journey into Consciousness" was awarded Best International Film at the Human Rights Film Festival in Bolivia. Previously, the film won the Audience Award of the online section at the documentary film festival "Millenium Docs against Gravity" in Poland, as well as the Feature Competition Jury Prize at the Illuminate Film Festival 2021, Sedona, USA, and the Audience Award "Create the Future" at the Maui Film Festival.

Thats bad news. 3Sat is a coop-broadcaster from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The film is available on DVD, i found out meanwhile, absolutely highly recommended.

It seems it also was in the movies last year, or this year. Won several prizes, was nominated for more.

Everybody reading this thread, do like they say. Its worth it. That film sticks to the mind. As a psychologist and meditation teacher as well I was into this stuff, too, and still am, privately, what I lack however is the psychotropic experience. :)

Schade eigentlich. :D

Very good video. Thank you for that link.

Awareness is a very curious thing. In my youth I spent countless hours, days, weeks, months trying to find out what awareness, reality and life was all about. I even went as far as spending 2 months at Zen Mountain Monastery in upstate New York. You would pay the good monks $2000 and they let you sweep cabins and not speak while there. All very dramatic.

I experimented with Ketamine (amongst other things) and the whole "K-hole" experience, and though interesting, it certainly was not some great revelation for me.

Is consciousness stored at the the cellular level? the molecular level? Sub quantum level? Or when we die, and brain function seizes, does awareness fade into nothingness and we are "just gone". Does it matter, really?

This subject is very interesting, but it pains me to see so many people nowadays feeling a need to constantly "seek". To needing to know things, we really can't know. I did that as a young person. Trying to equate experiences to living, and that never works.

All this stems from one thing; our human fear of death. People hate it when things "end", and sadly, this is just attachment, and it is quite hard to overcome.

If you enjoy this stuff I recommend:

It's called "Ram Dass, Going Home". It is available on Netlix I believe.
It is excellent, be even Ram Dass struggles with attachment.

I struggle to use the correct translations for "Geist", Bewußtsein", Leere", "Weltgeist", never am really sure that I use "mind", "spirit", "consciousness", "awareness" correctly when maybe one of the other words is more appropriate to describe the intended message.

The striking thing is that modern physics indeed matches claims by old mystics, may it be the Christian mystics, or Chan Buddhists, and quite some other faiths as well. But the mystic traditions often were in "blasphemic" violation of the insitutional belief dogmata.

Individual traits, and indivodual, subjective soul, seems to not survive the biological death. When Siddharta was asked about it, he also said so, but also indicated that there is a superior quality of "mind", non-individual self, a "non-self" he called it (An-Athman, referring to the teachings of Athman and An-Athman). The illusory self, our ego and its illusions, must die and will not come back, but beyond that is a "Non-Self", that I would call "the Divine", or the "profound awareness" that Max Planck spoke of. One thing, but many names for it. As I see it, there is nothing like a god and, separate from it, its "creation". The divine spark is in evertyhing, in all forms and events, anmd thesde all are transient only, perish the momnent they appeared,;nd it is the Divine itself that is me and that sees through my eyes and watches out into the world and is amazed by all the wonder that is just the result of the divine mind all the time playing along with itself, like children playing with fingers before the light and watch the shadows they cast on the wall - amused by the wonder that they have created with their fingers all themselves. The meaning of life, the sense in all this? We are the cosmic mind, the Divine sparkle, the awareness that takes on forms to allow itself to become aware of itself, like a single eye cannot see itself and needs a mirror to look at itself. We and all we perceive is expression of the One Thing that brings up all these forms and events in an attempt to become aware of itself, realise itself, understand itself. We do not need to go somewhere - we have always been there. Nothing is to be achieved, nothing is to be avoided, nothing must be yearned for. We have never been away, and never have been separated from it. The only thing we can do is not to crave, not to yearn, not to search, and even not wanting to not want, not crave, not yearn, not search. Just let it be. Or in the language of my academic discipline: to stop and untie the automatic signal reaction-link that Western psychoanalysis claims to be inevitable. We see something, and immediately our mind reacts. We hear something and we immediately react. We see that mand doing somehtign or looking the way he does, and immediately we make mental comments, how funny he looks or how stupid he does or whatever. We comment, we assess, we judge!, we interpret, we form "our view" of something, and we draw conclusions and consequences from this clown show - and the clown is us, its not the object of our perception. Thats the nature of our mind, restless, curious, playful. We must learn to just perceive -without reacting to it, without commenting. Just witnessing what our senses show us, but leave it to the pure event of witnessing alone.

It can be that somebody this way one day finds his conceptions of "this is me", "thisis my ego", "this is my individuality", simply fall apart, disappear, and one finds that it never was there. It was "Athman", the illusory self that must die so that the Non-Self, the An-Athman, will no longer be in hiding and can live forever, like it always has, and always will. The Atman is like a cloud that covers the sun of the An-Atman. Behind the cloud the sun always was there. The cloud goes away sooner or later. The sun stays, and always was during the cloudy time.

Of course, religious institutions and their powerpolitical hierachies that want control over people, hate this statement and call it blasphemy. They keep people enslaved in beliefs about heavens and hells, punishment and some deity's list of commands that in fact was written by some arch priest long time agao to secure his power and influence over people. Such relgions want people to be blind and dependent, for their own power interests.

The only "religous" rule I accept and tolerate, is the golden rule. And more woudl not be needed, if people, follow it consequently, all people. Any more "divine lawcode" I shove into any priest's throat, no matter his faith and belief system, until he gags and cannot annoy me with his word noise anymore.

I evade religions and their institutions and representatives. They are slavehunters. When they do not let me evade and ignore them, impose themselves onto me and my perception field, I turn very aggressive. They have to leave me alone, and they better get it immediately. They are slavehunters.

Mind is filled with radiant clarity, so cast away the darkness of your old concepts. Free yourself of everything. - Huang-Po.

And that is the only thing that really matters!

Most people's greatest fear is loss, the biggest loss being that of their own lives. We, as people, will always seek any explanation that steers towards existence being eternal.

The real problem comes for me that if the universe is this large, life must exist elsewhere. If *any* of this life evolved even only 1 million years before us (very little time on universal scale) and these beings, if they did not self-destruct before reaching technological maturity, were able to develop computer like technology. They would now easily be able to simulate the entire universe, including ourselves.

It is estimated that even with our current computing power, it would merely require a computing system the size of our moon, to simulate everything in the known universe.

The probability that you and I are in base reality, is almost zero.

Thank you for posting that, very interesting thread indeed.

I think anyone who claims they don't fear death is either lying or deeply depressed. But what also appears to be the case is that almost all people going through the dying process, do not seem afraid during this transitional period. There are many end-of-life videos about this subject, and most are extremely peaceful.

The brain has a tremendous capacity to adjust. I once had the privilege to be part of a small group of people at a lady's last meal. She would be euthanized later that day to avoid the horrors of end stage pancreatic cancer. She always demanded not to be given pain killers or medications that changed her perception or clarity. I think she feared that more than death.

During the entire dinner I never saw fear. Not once. It was the strangest
thing to me. It was almost as though she was going on a cruise or a vacation of some kind (I do not mean to sound crude, merely what i observed) there was a lot of wonder, but no fear in her, that I could tell. And dying people have no reason to lie.

It was strangely reassuring.

"The Global Consciousness Project"
Meaningful Correlations in Random Data

Want to make people aware of the study below. I find it fascinating. This Princeton led group placed random number generators around the globe, and just monitor their output.

Interestingly enough, when certain global events take place. The RNGs start to show synchronization and patterns become less random for a time.
