Ship Identification Book is blank

Hi All,
Im having trouble with ideitifying ship. When I open the erkennungshandbuch I can see different categories like Warships, Freighters, Escorts etc. But. when I try to go into a category the left side page of the book which should have the drawing of the ship is blank.

I'm running the Twos mod and i've tried running on Admin...

Highly appreciate if you guys can help me out here!

Update: I reinstalled the game and twos and now the recognition manual is ok. Only the small map is in the upper left corner of the screen, which is annoying.

Edit: blank again after several reinstalls. Dont know how to fix this.

Win11
1. Admin set
2. Game installed outside of the c: on a different drive
3. The Wolves of Steel 2.2_SH5 Expansion Pack_v2.2.25_Full installed
4. Digital SH5 download 1.20 (not steam)
5. New sh5 exe downloaded and patched
6. install notes followed and patched
7. real time scan on AV (MacAfee) is off

I managed to get the images back, but as soon as went back to scope, they disappeared again. I have also noted that all my other images and overlays from the selector are missing as well. Just blank images.

Any ideas?

I can't say anything about Win11 and therefore don't know if SH5 runs 100% clean under Win11, but I still have the question: Did you do it in that exact order?


If yes, that it is important, that you first update SH5 to version 1.2 and then install TWoS.

Sorry this was a bit of a dump and not in any order.

1. Installed 1.20 SH clean
1a. Ran the game once to check all ok, all ok
2. Patched the sh5 exe
3. Installed Twos 2.2.5
4. Patched using the patcher

It's really odd as it was ships in the book where thier, all was fine under win11 for months. Did the above, they where back and now they have gone again. I think, this might be related to Macfee (even though I did the install with auto scan disabled).

If you think McAfee can be the reason, then you should completely uninstall McAfee and SH5 as a test and then reinstall SH5 + TWoS again and test it. Or you can try first an exception for the SH5 folder and all .exe files there.


In my opinion is no additional virus scanners on Win10 or Win11 necessary, because Windows' own virus protection is usually enough and very good. But that's just my opinion and everyone has to decide for themselves.

No Joy, i have done the following:


1. AV uninstall
2. restart
3. SH5 clean install 1.20
4. ran the game in clean once all ok
5. patched the exe
6. installed TWos
7. ran game all ok
8. Went back to main menu in game
9. restarted same mission, images gone!


Not really sure what is causing this! does anywhere know where the images for the ships are located in the install?

Realy strange... :hmmm:


The files are located in "\data\Sea" and there in the different subfolders, like "data\Sea\NKL_North_Sands\NKL_North_Sands_sil.dds"

Great thank you. Seems all the DDS files are there.

I am going to try an driver update, but doubt that will fix it!

Can I double check something

If I am installing full version of TWOS mod, do I need to also install the update? I was under the impressionion the update was just an update for old TWOS users?

You need only the full version of TWoS (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=4861) and the update only to update an older one to the latest.

Ok fixed, i think this is a win 11 problem!

I formated my C drive, did a new build (win 10), installed TWoS and all is working find now.

Good to know. Same problems here (Win 11). SH3 and megamods all run OK. SH5 vanilla shows the recog. manual as well. What did Microshaft do to screw this up?
