Ahoi kameraden,

My steam torpedoes keep failing and it feels like it's happening more often than would be historical or is intended.

With the T2, it feels about right: about 1/3 or 1/2 of the time, my T2s will detonate prematurely. When they don't blow up early, they always work. I set depth +1m deeper than the target's draft, magnetic pistol, and it explodes in the right place.

With the T1, things are much worse. I set them for impact pistol almost always, since it's my understanding that the T1 normally was set that way, and I usually set depth to half the target's draft. The problem is they have no depth keeping. My last eight or so T1 shots that weren't simply missed by me have sailed harmlessly under the target, usually by several meters. For example, I attack a Granville (6m draft) so I set torpedo depth for 3 or 3.5 depending on sea state, but the depth keeping goes wrong and it swims by at about 8 or 9 meters.

Is this at all normal? It's happened between two different installs. It doesn't always happen, and I don't always get the chance to watch every torpedo closely, but it happens quite often. I have not tried testing T2s fused impact, but T1s fused magnetic do work most of the time. It's bad enough that I'm tempted to just shoot my T1s with magnetic fusing all the time.

I'm using pretty standard mods, the only big ones are GWX and ARB WideGui. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help, and if you've never seen it before I hope my problem at least piques your curiosity.

if you have the HSie hard coded patch installed torpedoes malfunction much more in rough weather if set to shallow running. Go find Readme_V16B1.pdf. The patch simulates malfunctions by sending the torpedoes very deep. i think you can turn it off with the HSie options selector.

I think it adds a lot to the game and simulates the very real confusion about torpedo defects prevailing in the uboat arm (and the USN!) early in the war. As you have just found.

The mod can be a bit of a pain when combined with the sub-optimal weather model used by SH3.
