I’ve got the game installed but no longer have the manual, in consequence of this I was trying all sorts of keys. I pressed E and blew myself up with a Wasserbomb. I wonder if this is a dead end feature on the development of the game. I know mines are a thing but lobbing depth charges off the stern which explode immediately they hit the water was a surprise. Perhaps this was supposed to represent mine laying. But when I’ve payed mines using the lever on the torpedo screen rather than keyboard, they didn’t blew up immediately. Plus the Uboot I was in when I wasserbombed myself wasn’t carrying mines. Has anyone else encountered this?

Mines work fine.. I’m using Strategy First version. Uboat=UC-II
You need a minimum speed ~2 knot, if don't move it blow you up. Release mines From surface or submerged. Use “M” key or lever to release a mine. You should get “Mine released” in message bar.

The mine will drop to bottom then SLOWLY float back to surface. (Better shallow waters tight areas) If you look behind your U-boat with binoculars you will see the mines eventually surface and floating behind you. You can explode surfaced mines using the MG .

Indeed I’ve no problems with mines. But pressing the E key seems to throw depth charges. On the surface you can see them but underwater I immediately blew myself up. I wonder why they would be a feature of the game. Weird.

Your right-Good catch! I never noticed before. The “E” key pops out a depth charge behind uboats in my game too. It’s not defined in the game “key settings” or in the manual. Maybe its held over from debugging. Later in the campaign some destroyers fire out depth charges like this.

I was also visited by a strange phenomenon. A crewman briefly appearing at the deck gun for about half a second whilst changing from deck gun view to an interior station.
