View Full Version : Changing binoculars in GWX?

I've been using GWX for ages now, and I love its many, many enhancements to the stock SH3 experience...but that said, I do miss the original binoculars which (IIRC) gave a bearing - not entirely realistic, maybe, but it did make spotting planes a lot easier. Anybody know if there's an easy tweak (like an already existing mod) that would allow me to restore the original binoculars without messing up the rest of my GWX install? I'm using GWX 3.0 with SH3Commander 2.6.

One of the first mods I started using for GWX was "ACM GUI Reloaded h.sie's Edition v 1.15" which includes binoculars with bearing indicator. I'm pretty sure other great GUI'S would also have it. I'm still modding GWX for myself ever since it came out, because I like all the visual improvements, such as the binoculars.

I'm not a very interactive person. But anyway as far as this binocular question,
I could come up with a custom mod that adds the bearing indicator to GWX, but my guess is that it would change the menu_1024_768 file among other things. It might be an interesting little project by itself, only useful for someone who wants only minimal change to stock GWX.

This should help you. Just use a text editor such as notepad to view and/or edit the file:

Okay. Even simpler than I thought. One could even make it a JSGME compatible mod so you wouldn't have to change the original file. And by the way in case anyone is wondering, I am not the Captain Drastic on Twitter, Reddit or any other venue. I have been Captain Drastic on Subsim since 2008 and the other guy somehow came up with the same username since then.
