Catfish

Is it a security vehicle?
It does not belong to some security service, and it is not exactly a military vehicle, though some might call it the latter.
edit just read in the film it was described as a former military vehice built for a special purpose, and then found on a scrap yard and changed for a special operation, so to speak.

Space movie?
Not from a space movie.

Hint1 it is armoured in the film; but in reality it is only thin iron/steel sheets to look like it.
Hint2 The film must have been so bad i hope no one here ever saw it :D

The "Herkimer Battle Jitney" from "Mystery men"

Originally built to send members of congress or the Pentagon on the battlefield so they get a picture of the situation (but no one wanted to, probably) so being scrapped and found again by those "superheroes", repaired and changed and used to fight the villain "Casanova".

No, in the present (when it was released/first shown/published/...).

Ostfriese
04-18-23, 06:40 AM
Can it perform these "hops" in real life - or only in the world of fiction?

Rather difficult to answer without giving too much away. The world it played in was supposed to be as close to the real life as possible, but I'd say that in "our" real world the jumps still aren't possible unless you have major external support (an elephant can jump 50m if you strap a rocket onto its back, but on its own it can't jump that far.)

Is its purpose in the narrative for entertainment?

It's the key part in the narrative, the show wouldn't work without it.

Ostfriese
04-18-23, 01:51 PM
Another small hint:

The yellowish thing on the right was rarely seen on TV. The red thing on the left is absolutely iconic, and if fully shown you'd immediately recognize it.

Correction: the dark "lines" in the picture form three parts that ar neither red nor yellow. Of these the top one (above the red thing) is sort of a flap, it can be opened.

science fiction show?

Ostfriese
04-18-23, 11:15 PM
science fiction show?

I'd say no. It played in the present when it was released, but the thing in the picture comes with quite some futuristic elements (mostly on the inside, not visible on the outside). These elements were futuristic when the show aired, but quite a few of these wouldn't be considered to be futuristic in 2023 anymore (some are even laughably outdated by our standards).

And before Kai sues me for libel - there's clearly no German equivalent to the word "skiver"; "faulpelz" (or 'lazy person') does not really do it - a skiver is someone who shirks the job he is meant to be doing in favour of something else (i.e. hiding in the mens' room smoking)

The tail wheel was part of the plan to deceive - but looking at my scrap photo you might have guessed that this was a tail sitter and therefore could only be one of very few post-war airliners

Never got the chance to have a good look at it :D I agree with Catfish, though, the color is off, it's a bit more towards green in reality, and I certainly wouldn't have guessed the Quadriga outright.

re Jim "post WW2" and i answered "yes and no", it was developed during the war, some say it already flew in the war, some say short after. The upcoming jet engines made the plane obsolete (which imho is a shame).

The company is well-known for constructing formidable aircraft before and during the war. It changed its initial rather unknown name after the foreign founder became bankrupt in the US, into a well-known one – and continued to build exceptional machines.

re Aktungbby's question "is it a Fairchild" i said no, and it was not. But Fairchild played a role later..
