Alarm rings in Australia and New Zealand, eyebrows frowned in Washington, in Bejing its silent laughter in exclusion of the public.

The document says the Solomon Islands may "request China to send police, armed police, military personnel and other law enforcement and armed forces."

That's all well and good but try getting rid of them afterwards.

Well and good...?

Chinese military presence - there? Radar, sensors, ELINT, bombers, missiles, SAMs, submarine sensors - there...? Not at all well and good. It could become the Kaliningrad enclave of Asia. A launch and surveillance platform.

A figure of speech.

What is there to say about it. Solomons is a sovereign state and are hereby entitle to sign agreement with whom they desire.

I agree this security deal isn't good for AUS, NZ and USA. Especially not if China can place military stuff there.

Almost two hours! :o Mind to give a summary of the conclusions?

It is describing in some detail the radar systems, navy, and air force assets Australia has, and is developing. Along with historical backstory and current threat assessments.

Here's another shorter video about the Boing unmaned MQ28 Ghost Bat that is being developed in Australia.

Analysts say the threat of China on Australia's doorstop isn't about invasion; it's about much more immediate short-term concerns, such as Beijing improving intelligence gathering and monitoring.

Even a small Chinese military presence giving it a foothold in the South Pacific would be a consideration for Australia and a potential drain on its military resources.

"It's not so much about what would China's base in the Solomon Islands contribute in a time of conflict - we're nowhere near that," said Mr Sora.

"When you establish a military presence in a region, it excludes that region, excludes access to that region for other countries."

He said a worst case scenario could be an escalation in tensions to the dynamics of the South China Sea, where Beijing has built artificial islands in contested waters and placed military installations on them to deny passage for other nation's naval and air forces.

I'm simply wondering which 'side' leaked these details :hmmm:

4 minute video update.

It does not look good.

Solomons become just the latest idiots walking into the Chinese trap of being turned into dependant vasalls by making sweet promises. And China wins a military base 3 flight hours away from Sydney. For Asutralia, this is a very, very dangeorus development. And for the US navy it is very, very uncomfortable. And for Chinese ELINT it is an island paradise.

Peoples who make deals with China would probably be less inclined to do so if the other choice wasn't a nation of crazy people who can't even figure out what a "woman" is. It's even worse now than when Clinton didn't know what the meaning of "is" is. :har:

I wonder what deal China gave the Solomons and what USA/Australia did to prevent this ?

True for the Solomons, but not Autralia, New Zealand, Phillippines, US navy operation, even Japanese operations.

Rumour says the Chinese still cannot believe their luck to have gotten the Solomons.

China also currently arms up the Balkans region, after having bought itself heavily into Greece. Europe will regret to let have this happen.

Despite Sogavare's repeated assurance that no Chinese military base would be built in the Solomon Islands through the security pact, Australia's Defense Minister Peter Dutton has warned that China will not waste any time expanding its presence in the South Pacific.
"You can expect the Chinese to do all they can now that they've got this agreement signed," Dutton said in an interview with Sky News.

Weren't the Solomones a member of the 'Commonwealth of Nations'?
Seems the leading politician is afraid of its own people and had to call for someone to protect him from those.
But why Xi Jin Ping
Was Boris Johnson the only alternative? (ahem)
