View Full Version : Question
Got a question for you guys, hopefully someone can help me here. This has to do with the Gramaphone music.
Is there a limit on the amount of music you can have in SHIII ? I have recently added about 130 more selections to my Gramaphone folder. I converted these selections from MP3's to OGG's, so I wouldn't have a mix. I now have a total of about 400+ tunes. Before I added these songs, I could play the Gramaphone for hours, on the surface, external view or submerged, Now I've noticed that my game will ctd after about 3 hours playing my music. This happens on all my computers, so I know it's not a computer issue and regardless of my install (CCoM12, Toyotagt86 or OneAlex). I honestly think I have a bad or corrupt song in the mix and whenever that song comes up ... ctd. Now before I set down and test each of the 436 selections, which will probably take me a few hours, I was wondering if there was a limit on the number of songs that would cause this. I didn't keep a list of my new additions so I could easily pull them out. Thanx Jerry

I don't know the answer to your song limit question but I had a similar experience with a batch of songs and it was one corrupted song that was the problem.
Each time it started to play I'd get a ctd.

I would cut the mix into 20 parts of 20 songs each.
Enable only one part at a time.
If there's only one song corrupted, then you have a chance of 5 % to have a CTD, which is quite few. :D
In this case, you have only 20 songs to test.
If you have no CTD at all with each 20 parts, then the problem comes from the number of songs.

Or ask Jeff Grooves to create a 010 scrpit to search for non-compatible audio formats... :03:
Thanx Mister M. That's exactly what I'm in the middle of as we speak. On one of my other computers, I'm playing through all 433 selections with VLC to see if I have issues there. I think my wife is already sorry she took the day off ... LOL. It's been rainy and cold here on the east coast for the past few days, and now, me playing through all 433 songs is PRICELESS.

Sh3 is somewhat restricted in Audio play. It will not play every format, even the file has an ogg or mp3 extension.
VLC is the very counterpart. It will play almost everything.
I believe playing with VLC you may find no problem. You may use VLC to look what internal Format the currently played Song had may help.
But 433 testing separatly may be awfull.
You need a dedicated tool to look into each song and log the results.
Maybe easy doable with a Batch and something like "MediaInfo".
Another method would be play all in a Playlist with VLC and not with in-game Grammophon, just before start SH3.
Greetings.
Welp, I tested all selections in SHIII 100 songs at a time. All in Aug 1939, so I wouldn't be sunk while testing and at nite while I was in my bunk. Each test would run about 10 hours. All was good testing with SH3 Commander's "randomize gramaphone" un-checked. I can only get about 4 hours with that option checked, and with all 433 songs. On a side note, I've got a list of about 100 selections, I'm going to delete while I'm messing with this stuff. Oh and another side note, all passed with VLC. I'm going to retest each block of 100 songs with "Randomize Tracks" checked ON, and see what happens.
I kept messing and playing songs individually within the SH3/Data/Sounds/Gramaphone, I found the song that froze my system. Tried it several times and it messed things up, to where I had to re-boot my PC. Finally! Deleted it, and now gonna let it run on "Randomize Tracks" Till tomorrow morning sometime. Not sure where it came from or where I got it, but my copies were corrupt. Reichsparadmarsch - 131er Marsch (2m33s)
