I wonder if sending contact/convoy reports give extra renown points ?
If not, what's the benefit (other than RP) of doing it in genuine SH3 (no mod) :06:

A. No.
B. None.
Add a mod or mods and then it means something. You'll never get renown, etc. for them but it can result in a wolfpack with the right modding.
This (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=174225) mod will add wolfpacks to your game. Feel free to ask for help, etc.

Many thanks John, that clarify things up.
On the same topic tho, can't the Allies pinpoint your sub location by intercepting your radio transmissions, listening to the "huff duff", is it not taken into account in the game mechanics ?

Some say yes, some say no. I'm in the no camp. I.e., numerous times I have sent literally a dozen or more reports whle shadowing a convoy with no affect on escort behavior. In real life it was a concern for sure. Not so much in the game. For that matter, the player will send many more reports to assemble a wolfpack in the game than was actually done in reality.
There is a section for it in the game files but the game has many unimplemented/missing features. There is also an outstanding mod by LGN1 that definately makes it so but it's a bit for "advanced" users of the game.

Another good reason to go "mods" then ...
Thx John ! :salute:

Yes, in stock the game in no way resembles a u-boat/Battle of the Atlantic simulation. :)
Hi John,
are you sure about the renown and that sending messages has no influence? IIRC, at least in basic.cfg there is a value for sending a contact report and there is also a parameter in airstrike.cfg concerning sending messages.
I think I tested both (years ago) and concluded they work, but I'm not sure anymore. Maybe test again with large values to be sure. And keep in mind you have to be in range of an airbase! I think for other units than planes from an airbase it does not work/matter.
And concerning contact reports: I think you only get the renown once per detected convoy and also only if you detect it (not contacting a convoy that has been already reported/shown on the map)!
Best, LGN1

Hi LGN1;
Right, those parameters in those files are what I meant in my earlier post.
At least in my experience I've never noticed reports having any affect that I could say for sure were a result of anything I did.
I.e., did that plane spawn per normal game behavior, is it a scripted event that I just happened to run into, or was it because of my report(s) ?
I'd love to see the escorts attached to a convoy I'm shadowing react to my reports as they did irl but have never seen it.
And unless I'm mistaken, I've never been mistaken....:D (old movie line).
Actually if I'm wrong it wouldn't be the first time.....
I forgot about the type of convoy contact you mention. Only had such happen a few times, good to know !
