Hi guys,
First I'd like to thank the community here for providing so much material and support, which already helped me great deal.
But now I think it's time to give back to this community. :)
I use SteamController (see my config here (steam://controllerconfig/15210/2493705183)) to play SH3 and that requires launching the game from within Steam.
But this does not allow for running the game as Administrator (if one does't run Steam as Admin, which you shouldn't:timeout:).
Even though I could also play the game with working around the crash-on-career-load without having admin privileges, I once hit a brick wall with a savegame that I first couldn't rescue.
Also the entire career appeared to be lost. But then I saw that I could still use it if I manually started SH3.exe in Admin mode (which is a quite common recommendation anyways, but doesn't work for me).
But doing what is described below did the trick for me. :)
An equivalent to running the game as Admin is to just change the ownership of all the files in the installation directory to your current Windows user and also to give this user Full control to all the files.
The procedure is described in this blog: https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/take-ownership-folder-windows-10-using-file-explorer (which isn't my work).
I hope this will help someone out some day. :yeah:
Let me know if things are not clear.
Best regards and good hunting,
Bernhard
