As an experiment, I took only the hydrophone and sonar settings from NYGM's sim.cfg file and pasted them into the stock sim.cfg file with a stock install.
In such case, the escorts ping away with their asdic upon contact (yes, finally !), yet in NYGM, not so. Very fun; I like the asdic noise being present as was the case historically and I like the stock depth charges strength "problem" and "pinpoint dropping" "problem". Helps make the escort ai more of a threat than otherwise.
Must be the different settings in the ai_sensors.dat file between the two that makes the difference.
I also don't get the red bearing lines (yes, again !) with a rwr in the stock install vs. NYGM, etc. so something must have been changed there too. Perhaps the same file is also the cause.
Anyway, fwiw.

Irl, asdic was the primary search equipment and escorts pinged constantly, not just after a contact had been made.
In sh3, they tend to only ping now and then even after contact is made.
In the above example, they constantly ping upon contact vs. now and then. Not as good as the real life example above, but better than the usual sh3 pattern.

John,

Merry Christmas to you and your family, my friend. :salute:

This is a interesting experiment, I don't think about altering the SH3 stock with bits from super mods. Will try this out and see. Maybe I might be inclined to try other bits too and see what happens. :yeah:

Good hunting,

Likewise Bob ! Yes, I tend to make Frankenstein installs vs. using a megamod as is. :)
Plus, I like some of the stock attributes strange as that may seem. :o
