Third war patrol U-201

U-201 is currently out on her third patrol. During this patrol I keep a war diary in the style of the real KTB outside of the game. I play very slowly and try to record everything to create a complete record that somewhat resembles the real records kept by U-boats.

In this thread I will share the war diary of this patrol with relevant attack plots, reports and maps. I shared the first two patrols in other threads by using attachments.
This time I created an album to put photos directly in the text. Let's see how that works. I will update the progress of U-201 until patrol end.

Probably a lucky break that the destroyer group changed course. Had they continued straight for me I may have found myself in a bit of bother.

The chase after the convoy has taken U-201 away from the Gulf of Cádiz. Now low on provisions and torpedoes returning there is no use. Instead she wil wait for an opportunity to download her external torpedoes in a safe area away from air cover. There is still time to put them to use if the opportunity presents itself.

That last attack on the destroyer was an epic failure. Makes you understand why the 1WO did the surface attacks and not the commander. Doing everything yourself at the same time under duress is a good recipe for making a fool of yourself.

The pictures are in an album I created. This album was set to "private". I think that was the reason they could not be seen? I have changed the album to "public" now so the pictures should be visible.

HE stands for Hydrophone Effect, not a term actually used by the Germans as far as I know. I belief the English used this terminology.
A in depth A (or A-30m etc.) stands for Achtzig, which is German for eighty. A shorthand commonly used in the KTB to note the depth.

U-201 returns safely to port. Exhausted and a bit worse for wear but still alive.
After 3 patrols U-201 has sunk 16 ships for a tonnage of 110000 GRT. A total of 36 torpedoes have been launched so far of which 22 hit and 14 missed, 3 of the misses were confirmed torpedo failures. In all U-201 has been on patrol for 89 days, 21 hours and 44 minutes and a total of 13551 Nm have been covered, an average of just over 150 nM per day.

sounds like it down the throats can be hard unless you shoot a spread fan shot but generally i don't waste the eels on small game use them on big game
