Does Multish4 work with steam version? No matter what I do it says filemanager.dll cannot be patched while SH4 is running.. I've shut down SH4 and Steam in task manager. What a bunch of BS.

Can confirm that MultiSH4, does indeed work with Steam copy of SH4.
Have several copies of SH4 that I have modded out, that SH4 Steam works with it. :yep:

post edit:
10 copies of SH4 made from the original SH4 install, that work with MultiSH4.. to be exact. :yep:
I am considering paring that done some... I've to decide on just what modded copies of SH4 that I am ultimately going to keep yet. :hmmm: NOT an easy task, I might add. :yep:

If you cannot write to FileManager.dll, it means you also cannot write to SH4.exe for the use of LAA or the 4Gig Patch. This indicates that you need to select the two files, right-click on them, choose "Properties", and on that first "General" tab, at the bottom under "Attributes", clear the "Read-only" tick box so that they can be written to. Then run MultiSH4 and LAA (or 4Gig) again, set them to what you want. The 3 letter limit of MultiSH4 is a function of the game and FileManager.dll. As such, use "descriptive" folder names such as "DW6" or "OME" or "FRS", or "TMO" or whatever. Something different from "SH4". If you cannot remember the name of your folder when it comes time to edit or investigate data in the folder, just run that particular MultiSH4 instance again, and it will show the folder name. :salute:

Okay here's the deal, I have two separate installs, one to use the Japanese mod and one for Fotrus, When i try to set the multish4 in the jap mod, it says can't patch because sh4 is running, I don't see it running in task manager and I closed up steam also.
Both those files are unchecked for read only. Any ideas?

WOOHOOO, got it working. For some reason, copying the game to an outside folder, the game itself wasn't working either. Also I was using the regular multish4, not the 1.5 version. When I copied the game inside the common steam folder and renamed it and used the right sh4 1.5 version, it's working fine!
Everything is good guys! Thanks for the replies as always! :subsim:

:Kaleun_Salute: Now that i finally got the procedure down to copy separate game installs, any suggestions for mega mods? I've got Fotrus and the Japanese subs mods.

Mhmm... I did up We dive at Dawn, but... have no real complaints about that mix... just a small... graphics issue what with the T class boat having 2 sets of rudder & rear dive planes... other than that, is a nice set up... can shoot you a copy of the jsgme mix I have... for that.
Have also Oper. Monsun: Dark Waters & KSD:II (English translation) set up.. as well.
In process of setting up Soviet Waterways, though.. be forewarned... is no TDC usage.. you have to manually figure out when to launch your fish at the targets... which.. makes for very interesting nail biting... to see if your calc's were spot on... or gnashing & wailing, if your calc's were... off... either too soon or too late. :yep:
On the U.S. side of things... I did up a SubRon 50 mix (Gato class squad sent to U.K. & operated for.. mhmm.. 6 months, to maybe a year... iirc :hmmm:)... that 1... is quite interesting... & followed Wolfpack345's S class mix. Using that 1 for just running a career in the Sugar boats.
If besides info on the We dive at Dawn mix... just let Me know if you would care to see the mix I'm using with any of the others. I'll be happy to forwar that, to ya. :shucks: :yep:

+1 MM however steer clear of the T-class, IMO. just play the one class you start with. i had nothing but trouble with the T. Not worth it.

By that, you mean the sub that's listed.. after you set up skipper info & just leaving the rest of the choice selections alone..?? :hmmm:
Will see about that...
On the T class... other than the graphics issues with the rudder/dive planes.. all else seems to be swimming along fine... other wise. Haven't ran into any problems thus far... *knock's on wood*

my mistake. my mistake.
the T-class worked as advertised.
the U-class upgrade was wonky. i tried to mod it and get it to work but it was not a success.
i do not remember rudder or dive plane issues with the T, though, but then if they were graphics issues, i may not have noticed it. are we talking about improperly displayed, but functional, dive planes? something like that?

For Me... somehow it ended up having 2 different rudders... & 2 sets of aft dive planes.
Think I have a screenie I snapped of it.
Lemme see of doing some digging through My snaps I took of various SH modded versions I have.
If I can't locate it right off.. no big, I can always snap a new one of it to show what I'm seeing with that T class.

Loooked through My repository of snaps.. & wasn't able to find it. Think I posted about that in the main thread for We dive at Dawn... & inserted an image for it... I think. Wa a bit back when I know that I did make mention of running into that .. oddity with the rudder/read dive planes... :yep:
Any way.. find attached, a snap shot of the aft section in question... below:

I put together a quick little Steam SH4 FAQ (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2765681&postcount=1)
This may help other Steam users who come across this thread in the future.
