Regarding using water for methanol transport Letsch is right, also with the total energy bilance for electric cars, which is abysmal (from the rare earths needed for batteries, to their production, to energy transport over electric wires, to charging loss, to battery life.

But there is also another easy way out for using hydrogen, the word is LOHC (– Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier –)

So you do not even need to compress hydrogen in tanks at 700 bar to make it liquid, no evaporation, no danger of explosion anywhere.
