Big thanks to everyone who gave and offered advice with my problem of getting SH3 to run on Windows 10.

Can I give a big shout out here to S7rikeback who was tireless in his efforts and would not accept defeat, as well as his mate propbeanie.

I was ready to give up but S7rikeback wouldn't let me.

I'm really touched that so many were willing to help out a complete stranger, it's restored my faith in good people and I'm proud to be a member of such a group.

I installed SH3 from the DVD on one Windows 10 machine and installed Living Silent Hunter III no problem at all.



I wanted to do the same on another computer (also Windows 10) to compare Grey Wolves, and am getting the Protection - needs Windows 95 error that you did. The only difference here is that I did not install that Game Shadow crap the second time.


What advice got you working? Thanks!


Edit: It was copy protection that was screwing things up. Downloaded some alternate files and now it is working.

Just tried to reinstall sh3 after too long of a hiatus.
Win 10, AGAIN, has disappointed.
I've tried several fixes and (of course) compatibility mode continues to be useless to the point they should just do away with it.

My nogo error is simple. Incompatible with this version of windows.

I gave up on wing commander 3 a few years back after my xp box died.

Maybe after 30 years of gaming (nevermind being a kid in the late 70s or 80s lol), its time to call it quits.
Most of the new stuff is just rehashed with better eye candy.

Yeah. I"m a bit jaded this morning lol.
