View Full Version : This app has been blocked for your safety
O, thank you so much
I have the CD Silent Hunter 4, installed on C: \ Silent Hunter IV.
My windows 10 has been updated until today.
Now I understand that Microsoft has not validated this old program.
How can I discharge this?

Thank You Jeff-Groves!

There's another way, one that immediately gave me a good result.
Activate REGEDIT as administrator(!)
Go all the way down via HKEY_Local_Machine > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Current Version > Policies > System > to Enabel LUA.
That's now 1, make it 0. Then OK, restart, restart.:yeah:

You can do that but I highly recommend one NEVER disables LUA unless your totally aware of the dangers involved and willing to suffer the possible consequences.

LUA= Limited User Access????
what does setting that bit to zero mean? In English, please. :D

OK,
What the LUA test does is check whether a file (e.g. a game) has been rated by Microsoft. Evaluate whether the file makes any changes to the Windows registry file.
At the time the Silent Hunter series was released, that validation was not done by Microsoft. Silent Hunter therefore is not validated!
Now when Silent Hunter is started in a recent version of Windows, it is checked whether Silent Hunter is validated or not. No validation is found, so the infamous message “This app has been blocked for your safety” appears.
The LUA test is set to “on” by default, on is 1, off is 0.
So if you set the LUA test to 0, that test will not be done and your program will start normally.
It may be useful to reset the LUA test to 1 after closing Silent Hunter.
As you can see on my first post (05-11-2021, 05:38 PM), it takes a little time to turn off the LUA test (0) before the start of Silent Hunter and then after closing Silent Hunter back on (1).
Well, that can be greatly simplified by creating a so-called ".reg" file, nothing is easier than that.
Learn: https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/create-reg-file-for-registry-hacks.
For example, name the .reg file for starting Silent Hunter “Before Silent Hunter.reg” and the .reg file when you quit the game “After Silent Hunter.reg”.
To start a .reg-file, dubbelklick on it.:yeah:

Maybe a bat file to to the reg before launching SH4
then once SH4 closes, run the other reg file.
Win 10 you could even use Power Shell.

Excellent explanation.
Short, concise, in English (as opposed to PB-ese).
