The guided missile cruiser USS Monterey, part of the US 5th Fleet seized a haul of illegal weapons that where heading to Yemen. The weapons included RPG's, Chinese Type 56 Assault Rifles, PKM Machine Guns and Sniper Rifles among others. The haul when laid out covers a large portion of the Monterey's (what I think is) aft deck.

Yikes, somebody is losing out in that deal. I wonder if anyone will complain and want their money back. NOT. :)

Well, I suppose we'll just wrap them up for resale to our own freedom fighters.

This thread and it's comments made me remember what an agent for DEA said in a documentary on Drugs.

(From memory)
It's only the top of the iceberg we catch.

Maybe it's the same here-This catch was only the top of the iceberg.

That's not that many weapons ... you couldn't even take over one city in LA with that many weapons. :o

Remember what a big country Yemen is and what a big country Saudi Araba is that they are fighting :yep:

Well that's only what came off of one ship. How many ships loaded with similar weapons and similar amounts have slipped past the Navy and made it to Yemen already? Like Markus said this is probably only the tip of the iceberg, it's the part of the iceberg you can't see that's the most dangerous.

They're not "illegal", they're just undocumented. :D

It is a huge amount of weapons they got in the net. For those who these weapons was intended for it may have stinged a little

Take a close look at the captured weapons pictures already posted

Notice anything funny?

A sailor or a whole lot of sailors had to put them there and it looks very close to the edge of the deck they are on. :o

Someone was in jeopardy of falling overboard :hmmm:

Someone was in jeopardy of falling overboard :hmmm:Actually, in looking closely at your great photo, methinks those safety netting all around the stern, not unlike the no-jump nets on the Golden Gate, make the stern area pretty safe from a man-overboard incident happening. I just wonder who had to meticulously postion everything in the hot Middle East for some damn photo op. Especially in an area where we've fired at harassing Iranian vessels. The stateless :nope:dhow vessel carrying the arms might not have been so stateless in the Yemeni 'client war' involving the now deprived recipient Houthi N. Yemen tribesmen, Saudis, and the Iranian Republican Guard...ie: playing Wyatt Earp in the Strat of Hormuz is miserable work and detracts from of greater threats in the far western Pacific/Taiwan/S.China Sea theater of operations-where a lot of those weapon came from!:yep:

Correct me if I am wrong, but those safety nets go up and down, right?

Isn't that a deck for a helicopter to land on?

My guess is they started on the outside and worked their way inward.
