Michael Collins - one of the three crew members of the first manned mission to the Moon, Apollo 11 in 1969 - has died aged 90, his family say.
He died on Wednesday after "a valiant battle with cancer. He spent his final days peacefully, with his family by his side".
Collins had stayed in lunar orbit as his colleagues Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the Moon.
Aldrin, 91, is now the only surviving member of the mission.

Good-by Major general Collins RIP
I would've like to have talked with him on how it felt to be so far away from home and then splash down in the ocean with a USN carrier standing by to complete his journey.
He was also a test pilot and major general in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

Thanks for the memories Michael Collins.
"Not since Adam has any human known such solitude," a mission commentator said. Collins later rejected that notion.
"That's baloney," Collins said.

I really enjoyed reading his book. It brought a human aspect to the space race.
Of the three, on Apollo 11, he was the one I would have liked to sit down and talked... or listened to.

Astronaut Michael Collins had said that he was just extraordinarily lucky to be in the Space Program. In my experience, intelligent and talented people are always lucky. The men and astronauts from this era were pioneers.
Rest in peace Mr. Collins. :Kaleun_Salute:

If you want to read a rather depressing book, check out
Moondust: In search of the men who fell to earth by Andrew Smith
It is a biography of the post moon walk lives of the men who walked on the moon.
Fair warning, it is not always a happy book. Collins was one of the more fortunate ones.
