The grim truth is the French are no longer masters of their own home. Too much indifference for too long time.

They can not push the responsibility onto their trusted politicians. A voter has a responsibility towards their country and if a voter can see their politician has failed in doing so- s/he should chose another politician or stay home.

The French government has condemned an open letter signed by active soldiers that said the country was heading for "civil war" due to religious extremism.

About 1,000 servicemen and women, including some 20 retired generals, put their names to the letter.

It blamed "fanatic partisans" for creating divisions between communities, and said Islamists were taking over whole parts of the nation's territory.

Ministers have condemned the message published in a right-wing magazine.

The letter was first published on 21 April - the 60th anniversary of a failed coup d'état.

"The hour is grave, France is in peril," the signatories said.

Far-right leader Marine Le Pen, a candidate in next year's presidential election, has spoken out in support of the former generals.

But the minister in charge of the armed forces, Florence Parly, tweeted: "Two immutable principles guide the action of members of the military with regard to politics: neutrality and loyalty."

She earlier warned that any signatories still serving in the military would be punished for defying a law that requires them to remain politically neutral.

Well what's true is that certain "first world" action in the "third world" and middle east did not make it especially easier for people to live and strive there, with infrastructure like roads, schools and hope for a future destroyed. is Iran really better off now than with Sadddam Hussein? Or Libya without Ghaddafi? Afghanistan? China got out after the opium blackmail by pure chance, but living there with its consequences is not especially positive either by western standards. Action usually incites a reaction.

Some people try to build a future elsewhere, like here, if they can get there. Perfectly understandable. What is surprising is that most of them are peaceful after what happened to their country done by the very states that intervened in theirs, with so relatively few nutjobs being among them. I especially adore the english notion of anti-immigration after they invaded almost the whole world and did a lot of slave trade, but hey which nation is without guilt.

I was in a hospital some months ago, met a man from Syriah. Syriah has a bad leader one might say, like Iran and others, but also these current or temporary governments have a history of how the today's situation happened, from the Shah to big oil.

So he asked for visa for him and his wife, and barely got out of this mess alive, to Germany. Islam has been totalitarian and militant and supremacist since always. Exceptiosn nwere not the rlel but the exception fromt he rule. I believe we have brought much of this upon ourselves as a result of past actions but we can't say we haven't had sufficient warnings of what is currently in development.

If Marine Le Pen gets elected as president I can see some big events happening in France over the next couple of years and they won't be pretty.
If Macron wins France will simmer more slowly until it all comes to the boil and erupts more violently than the recent yellow vest fiasco he caused.
Whoever wins they're going to have to face up to what's going to happen because appeasement doesn't work, has never worked and never will work, stand firm, crack down hard on which ever group kicks it off and ask questions later.
Me thinks there are going to be dead bodies all over the place to kickstart it off and it's up to the president to say Enough is Enough, we shall see who has the bigger cojones for it and my bet says Macron has the smaller ones. :haha:

I do not see civil war in the meaning of the word, red versus blue, marching troops and the armed forces splitting up. What I see is riots turning more and more violent, getting into bed wioth gang crime, and orgaised crime, the state loosing the power monopoly and ability to push through laws and order, police personnel giving up and quitting in their hearts and maybe also in the job, letting things run. Blocks, then sector in metropoles going amisee to parallel society violence. Opportunistic polticians form both sides of the spectrum mercilessly spilling fuel into the fire, everyone for his own direction and for his agenda. Citizens stopping to feel enaged for state, society, culture, hisotirxla identity, qualified and well-earning specialists, academics, doctors, and experts, burgeoise families fleeing to other coutnries. Islamic communites will tremendously benefit, and Christans will become a seciodn grade species in their once own country, being out-numbered in births. Legislaiton will change to refelct the change in cultural influence, and relativise more and more in a bid for appeasing. The coutnry will not go down in one big turmoil, but the rotting within will speed up, giving birth again and again to growing extremism, and action will have reaction will have re-reaction will have re-re-reaction...
