I know it's only April, but the NFL draft is this month and the difference between 2020 NFL football and 2021 NFL football should be very interesting.

Starting off with the shocking news that all NFL stadiums will be open to the public. :o

Perhaps it's healthier and less expensive to stay home again this year. :yep:

New Study Finds Covid Spikes After N.F.L. Games With Fans

Last week, Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league hoped to open all its stadiums at full capacity when the season kicks off in September.

“All of us in the N.F.L. want to see every one of our fans back,” Goodell said in a conference call with reporters.

Yet new research submitted to the scientific journal The Lancet in late March suggested that there was a link between the games that had large numbers of fans in the stands and an increase in the number of infections in locales near the stadiums. The study, which is being peer reviewed, is one of the most comprehensive attempts to address the potential impact of fans at N.F.L. games.

Goodell can say he wants his fans back, but its going to take more than open stadiums to make that happen. The NFL, like so many other things, has chosen to make political/social stances that satisfy some people and alienate others. Until for-profit "entertainment" decides to actually focus on entertainment rather than social or political commentary, it will continue to lose fans. Doesn't matter which direction it chooses to 'lean", if it can't focus on its product to the exclusion of everything else, its product will be sub-par.

Long time no see CaptainHaplo welcome back and yes this political stuff is getting old.

How can everyone think the same about football when it's one team against another. :hmmm:

I love the un-happy QB rumors, with Wilson and Lunch-meat Rodgers. Rodgers isn't broken down enough for the Queens to go after him yet.

So August, now that I'm a tax-paying "Upstater", I believe I'm gerrymandered into Pats football fandom.
So what's Coach gunna do? Did he remember to save the receipt for Newton? Can we go full Soviet sports and "arrest" Brady and Gronk for unpaid pah-king tickets and have them work off the debt at the local football club?

Well my friend upstate New York is not part of New England but hey anyone can be a Patriots fan including my cousins kid from Cleveland who goes to school up in Buffalo. Her family are all big cheese heads even though they are from Indiana and her kid is a Patriots fan. Weird huh?

As to what Bill will do that has been the 64 thousand dollar question for the past two decades. The man has always been a sphinx when it comes to his intentions.

There are a lot of Cam Newton haters out there but I think he might still have some life in him yet. Compare his stats before and after his bout with covid and add to that he was stepping into a new system with no practice and no pre season and it's not surprising last season turned out as it did, especially with our rather severe lack of receiver talent. You might see a big improvement in him, if he returns as the starter but who knows?

Never, ever, EVER try to figure out The Belichick or the entities that control him. :Kaleun_Cheers: Doing so could result in brain damage. :yep:

I'm almost looking forward to some good old Pat's football like the old Grogan days :o or even the old :oBledsoe:o days, where the only thing that mattered was how bad they could look at the end of the season. It makes you appreciate the super bowls more. :D

Sometimes he wins and sometimes he looses ... :o

Well, the NFL draft for 2021 is here. It's predicted New England and Washington will trade up for a franchise Quarterback. This draft seems to be deep in Corner backs, Running backs and Offensive lineman. Where do you think your favorite team should spend it's first few draft picks ?

You mean, who will draft the most "woke-approved" QB? The BYU QB is the same as a loaf of wonderbread, politically speaking. I think the viqueesn, to pay for MN's racist sins (dry heave), should get rid of Care Bears Cousins and get Russell Wilson.

Why don't you tell us what you really think ?:03:

I think a lot of college players, especially quarterbacks are crap shoot with regards to their success in the NFL. Both WR Antonio Brown and Quarterback Tom Brady were both 6th round draft picks. Look how that turned out.

One wrinkle in the draft is that quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants out of Green bay. Rodgers may well be a viable short term solution for a team that needs a Quarterback but can't address it in the draft, based on other needs.

I wasn't sure about Quarterback Baker Mayfield When Cleveland took him in the draft but I think he has proved himself. I will read the papers tomorrow to see how each team made out . :yep:

Yes, Rodgers wants out of Green Bay like Brady wanted out of New England, but he's contract doesn't allow that this year or next year.

Makes for a funny team player if you ask me :D

Hey gang NFL draft tonight first round on ESPN at 8pm est and I don't even know any of these wanta be's: :o

It is expected that Trevor Lawrence goes to Jacksonville at No. 1 overall, while BYU quarterback Zach Wilson will be reportedly selected by the New York Jets at No. 2 overall.

From there, it could be pretty chaotic for the rest of the top 10. Will Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields and NDSU quarterback Trey Lance fall outside the top 10? Will someone trade up to select them? How about the trio of outstanding receivers from the SEC — LSU's Ja'Marr Chase, Alabama's DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle?

See any Ore-gone Duck QB of the 20 years. The new one, the Chargers QB, where ever they are playing now, I'll give him time. Even the Kid, Mariota, where is he now? Traded away...that didn't take long.

The Ore-gone ducks are an "all glamor minimal substance" program. They are the rich kid team in every sports movie that fails in the end. They have pretty uniforms (lots of them) and love to look at their glamor shots in their uniforms.

I just had to upgrade my Dish to receive the Thursday night NFL football games.

Cost $20 more a month for Red Zone etc, but I love football one of the last things that is unpredictable.

Well the prognostications that Brady would kick our butts were a bit exaggerated. TBH he showed his age although his receivers weren't helping all that much. It was raining buckets but bad weather never stopped him before.

The world champs are the real deal for sure but we still came within a couple inches of beating them. That "donk" off the left upright was a terrible thing to hear in surround sound BTW. Our D did their job keeping Brady to field goals.

My only question at this point is will Mac Jones survive long enough for us to capitalize on his talent. The kid did great last night and he is showing a ton of potential but our O-line has to step up or one of these hits will eventually do damage even if he thinks now that they were "fun".

Another thing I hope was finally put to bed is the true reasons for Bradys departure. It wasn't a coach/player conflict, it wasn't about money. It was because the Patriots are going through a rebuilding phase and Tom didn't want to spend his last years having to deal with that. Tampa was all set up for him.

But, it's the Lions, everything will work out.:har::har::har:

I like what this Detroit rag had to say:

The football gods looked down on the Lions and said “beat the Vikings’ and the Lions screamed back “no!”

The Vikings committed dumb penalties, turned the ball over, and just generally ran a terrible offensive game plan all day long. They gave the Lions at least four chances to take control of the game, but the Lions predictably responded with short passes and short runs. The Lions threw underneath on third down multiple times and consistently came up short. This team just can’t get it done. Forget finishing games, this team is struggling to finish a drive. It’s going to be a long season.

Maybe there is some sort of cosmic justice?

College football has become a beauty contest and it's all about manufactured drama that makes the NCAA money. The Ducks are the token, Westcoast team. (the Cup-cake-12 should be down graded as a quality, power conference) ESPN had a great article, on why Ore-gone was even rated #3. Unfortunately, no one in the sports media world can see beyond Ore-gone's fluff. They almost always choke in November. I'm just tired of these big name programs, that play cushy, non-conference teams, get ranked high, then play a real team and get crushed. The ESPN article pointed out how weak Ore-gone's schedule was this year (Ohio St aside), but that was a first game though.:D

Bills Mafia Table-Breaking Initiation Goes Horribly Wrong

The Buffalo Bills fanbase is a complicated coalition (https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/buffalo-bills-fans-new-vaccine-requirement-01ffe825zp3f). A collection of insane football fans who have forged an identity as a group of people who sacrifice their bodies for the enjoyment of their group by diving onto folding tables (https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/bills-wedding-table-video-smash-fans-01fdtaa11f0x). This, for better or worse, is the Bills Mafia. While their shenanigans are mostly cheeky and fun, there's a certain level of danger involved when you're trying to break things with your body. And sometimes things go wrong. Like what happened to this small woman when she tried to get in on the fun before yesterday's Bills - Colts game. Who knew a 26-point loss at home wouldn't be the worst thing that would happen to a Buffalo fan on Sunday.

Critics Claim Mac Jones Just Product Of Being Talented Quarterback In System With Elite Defense And Coaching

FOXBOROUGH, MA—Slamming the rookie’s success as a fluke of organizational competence, critics claimed Tuesday that Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was just the product of being a talented player in a system with elite defense and coaching. “People are acting like Mac [Jones] is the next great franchise QB, but he’s only doing this well because he has a complete skill set and he’s surrounded by talent and coaches who know what they can expect from their players,” said Bills fan Derrick DiMaio, who claimed that Aaron Rodgers or Patrick Mahomes could be just as successful in a setup like Mac Jones has. “You take away his accuracy, his decision making, and the Patriots’ proficiency at developing players, and he wouldn’t be anything special. Just look at what having to deal with no supporting cast and a directionless, identity-less organization has done to Trevor Lawrence. That’s what Mac Jones would be like if he wasn’t being properly utilized and well-guided. It’s all luck.” At press time, Jets, Lions, Browns, Jaguars, Giants, and Bears fans were all wishing their teams could get as lucky as the Patriots seem to be with their draft picks over and over again each year.

Bill Parcells once said: "A draft bust is almost always a coaching and/or an organizational failure, not a player failure."

After years of increasingly famous draft busts it should be clear that Parcells is right. Even the most talented college player will struggle in the NFL if he is badly coached and playing for a dysfunctional organization.

So, in another series of meltdowns, Antonio Brown, wide receiver for the World Champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, quits his team in the middle of playing the New York Jets today. Head coach Bruce Arians, in bringing Antonio Brown to the team had stated that if he screws up one time, he is gone.

Antonio Brown played the whole season on a faked Covid vaccination card and was suspended for 3 games. It hardly mattered as Brown was injured and would be out for 3 weeks anyhow. It did put head coach Arians at risk as he has battled Cancer and presumably, has a somewhat compromised immune system.

Arians went back on his word and kept Antonio Brown on the team but after today's temper tantrum, has said publicly, Brown is no longer on the team as of today. We will see as Arians has gone back on his word before.

https://www.boston.com/sports/nfl/2022/01/02/antonio-brown-jersey-video-released/

In a bizarre moment, Antonio Brown takes of his Jersey and pads and t shirt and walks off the field. This Isn't the first time Brown has walked out on a team he has played for but this may well be his last.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5wsiaX8VgQ

Although it's obvious Brown has mental issues, His bizarre behavior started soon after linebacker Vontaze Burfict put a vicious and illegal hit on Brown when the Bengals played the Steelers in the playoffs. Brown played for the Steelers then. I don't think this will end well for Brown.

The hit on Brown

You mean, the Ft. Buffalo massacre? The New England Militia, whilst on their winter offensive, were ambushed and wiped out by raiding parties of Mohawk, Seneca, and Iroquois Warriors. The Militia defense had set up winter camp, away from the main body of the army. The militia was wiped out and General Belicheck and the remnants of the force have withdrawn to New England.

It's happen before.:k_confused:OH YES! In 1964 feared defensive lineman "Wrong Way" Jim Marshall of the Minnesota Viking's feared "Purple People Eaters" defensive front line https://res.cloudinary.com/nflleague/image/private/t_new_photo_album/league/qzxjmugohnymsgjtpk9n.jpg picked up a fumble in the heat of the scrimmage against the San Francisco 49ers; and ran 66 yards the wrong way into the endzone where he tossed the ball put of bounds in presumed touchdown glory...the delighted Niners received a 2 point 'safety'; the same as when a player is tackled in his own end zone with the ball. Mr Marshall, an 18 year veteran All pro and still a record holder of most pro game-starts and recovered fumbles, received a comfort/commiseration call from Wrong Way Roy Riegles, another highly regarded player, who had done the same thing in the 1929 Rose Bowl...recovering a fumble and running 69 yards, having lost his directional bearings. In the first case, Marshall later recovered another fumble which fellow Purple People Eater Carl Eller converted to a touchdown to give Minnesota the victory. In the Bowl game, Geogia Tech utilized the critical 2 point safety to win the game 9 to 7 against California Bears. The 2 point safety is the rarest score in football. I actually saw the game on TV where Marshal made his mistake!:yep: 58 year ago!! It's still considered a classic! In fact, it is the only safety I've ever observed. PS: real men play rugby...:haha: My first inkling something was wrong was when a 49er gave me a hug in the endzone!

:haha: There were a lot of " blowouts " in the NFL wildcard playoffs. The only one that didn't surprise me was the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes looks like a field General out on the field. This leaves power houses, the Tennessee Titans will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC divisional game. It looks like it will be a great game. The Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengal game looks good as well.

Meanwhile, down south, the Gronkineers without the distraction that is Antonio Brown, just keeps " moving on up. "

Totally agree about the enjoyment of the game. One of the best I have seen in a long time. Far too often by this time in the season the games can get a little boring.

I am really happy to see Quarterbacks starting to run with the ball.

And that Bills going for it on fourth down was nice.

Sometimes you gotta take the risk and I am glad to see some of that sort of play.

I had Ass-umed that the OT quarter would just be a simple continuation after the fourth quarter when it came to who has possession of the ball.

I supposed that a coin flip is the fairest way, but then I would like to see a full fifth quarter played to give both teams a chance to score more, instead of whoever can get the first FG.

How about this for a wacky idea

OT is all about FG

Start at the 50 yard line. Each team tries for a FG, if neither makes it, move to the 45 and so forth. :D

Winner is decided when one team makes a FG and the other one does not.

Might get a little dicey when both teams end up at the 1 yard line. :har:

Laughs. I might go for that but I think the NFL teams might not want to play along. Certainly, I think such evenly matched teams as the Bills and Chiefs should have an equal opportunity to settle the game between themselves.

I'm awaiting the results of today's LA Rams:up:Tampa Buccaneers:down:(Tom Brady QB'd) playoff game to see if it'll be a all-California NFC title game! A S.F. vs L.A.slugfest for the SuperBowl berth!!:yeah: but ever mindful that real gentlemen play Rugby.:D All bets are off for this grudge match; but I'd lay down a small shekel that the Niners will get past LA for the SuperBowl berth. So now were talkkin' dirty tricks: San Francisco 49ers fans were bummed out with a policy briefly on Ticketmaster that prevented many from buying tickets for the NFC Championship against the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday.

The Rams and Ticketmaster had restricted ticket sales to purchasers with a credit card zip code in the "Greater Los Angeles Region." The fan ban prompted a huge outcry by Niner fans. By Monday morning, the policy was lifted. But for many, it was too little too late, because tickets had sold out.

Fans can still seek out third-party tickets but can expect to pay a markup. The Rams implemented the restriction two weeks ago after the Faithful turned SoFi Stadium into a sea of red during the regular-season finale. The 49ers appeared to outnumber the Rams fans. The 49ers defeated LA twice during the 2021 regular season – a 31-10 rout in Week 10 and a 27-24 victory in the regular-season finale in which San Francisco rallied back from a 17-point deficit to clinch a playoff spot.

Howard Wasserman, a law professor at Florida International University, said privately built stadiums give teams and the NFL more latitude.
"There’s no law in place that they would be running afoul of," said Wasserman.
That would be different if SoFi was publicly owned.
"Then it is subject to Constitution limitations like the 14th Amendment and the 1st Amendment," he said. This is 'slugfest' dirty tricks at its lowest level: restricting ticket sales in a public venue to oppositin fandom from the same state is inexcusable...and won't change the outcome, my 'small shekel' says the Niners will go to the Super Bowel :arrgh!: and the Rams should be embarrassed at such unsporting shennanigans. https://www.ktvu.com/news/la-rams-ticket-policy-restricts-sf-49ers-fans-from-nfc-championship-game

Good Lord! The Niners managed to defeat themselves with two unnecessary penalties(taunting & late hit on a downed reciever-15 yards apiece) as their lagging running offence & poor passing game crumbled to the Ram's second-half overpowering defence; and the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Cincinatti Bengals. So it's Rams vs Bengals for the big gong...:ping::ping:?...in the stadium the Ram & Niners just battled in. A good little income $timulus$ 2 LA's coffers.Watching the rabid fans was more fun than watching the rather uninspiring game...shrieking and screaming to deafen the poor quarterbacks' calls; raucus low primate conduct. LA obeyed the big rule: If your going break a 6 game losing streak against your primary rival, do it in the NFL Championship game!:yep::up: But...Gentlemen play Rugby!:arrgh!:

I'm Deeply saddened to report that Steelers Quarterback Dwayne Haskins was killed early Saturday morning. Apparently, he was hit by a Dump truck. Haskins, who would have turned 25 on May 3, was trying to cross an interstate on foot in Broward County in Florida when he was struck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Haskins was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

Quote: Haskins was a fixture at Steelers’ community outreach events, volunteering his time to help others in his new home. He jumped in right away, helping to hand out backpacks, school supplies and hygiene kits at a Pittsburgh public schools back-to-school event. Through the Salvation Army’s Project Bundle Up initiative a couple of months later, Haskins and eight teammates took a group of local kids shopping for winter gear at Dick’s Sporting Goods. In December, he delivered Christmas gifts, food, shoes, socks and health care items to Pittsburgh organizations and the Convoy of Hope for Huddle for the Holidays. Haskins has been described as always upbeat and cheerful with team mates and others.

No matter which team you are for, it's tremendously sad when a young life is taken before it's full potential can be realized.

Rest in peace, Dwayne.

With the 1st round of the 2022 NFL draft concluded and in the history books, what does everyone think of the draft picks their favorite teams made ?

I was a little surprised that a quarterback wasn't taken until the 20th pick in the 1st round with the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Kenny Pickett of the University of Pittsburgh.

There were many quality Wide Receivers in this years draft and were picked early. The 2nd round starts tonight with subsequent pics in the remaining rounds made concluding tomorrow.

How do you think your favorite team is doing so far ?

Ha, I saw the lead up to the draft show and thought it was just a mock draft gimmick. I guess covid aint't a thing anymore by yhte crowd. I probably should look to see, who the vike drafted?

I noticed the " draft experts " have all gotten their draft predictions wrong. The " draft show " is Impossible to watch. Years ago, , the draft started earlier and got through rounds 1-4 at least in a day. Now, they can only get through round one.

Ja, that's why I tune out the second the Super Bowl is over. This is a business IMO that doesn't need to be expanded. I really wish they would "prune" a lot of the extra curricula stuff. This doesn't need to be a 365 day/ a year activity. I blame the 24 hr cable news industry and legalized FF (sports betting) for this. It really ruins the game for me. It's all show and fluff now.

As a life long Browns fan, die hard fan, loyalist to the extreme, their actions over the past few weeks have really pissed me off.
